  • Business professor William Brown use one sentence to summarize the changes in #China over the past few decades: I like to tell foreigners that in 1988, Chinese had no money, and today, they still don't have any #money! That's because today we use phones for everything! Watch the video to learn about #changes and poverty relief in China.

For the last 17 years, I have been traveling to China very often and witness the progress the country made. The government makes progress by building roads and railways to the interior of the country, help the locals to cultivate cash crops etc. Their system of ''let's work and grow together'' works. If the government were to do 'handouts' policy, it will cultivate a lazy society. But in China, both are doing their respective work.

You made your decision to stay in China more than 30 years ago.
YOU have witnessed history in the making, perhaps one of the biggest miracle in the annals of human history.
    I envy you.
My parents moved out of China and went to the Philippines during the Civil War.

I have been to China few times but only too few to mentioned.
And each time only a few days for business and not for sight seeing.
KUDOS to you for trying to show the world the true side of China and not those desperately trying to destroy China through those less than desirable Western media.

The west keep looking at China with the same contemptuous mindset of the 19th century when China was weak and riven by disunity and corruption. This contempt was alloyed with fear and suspicion when China embraced communism with Chinese characteristics. Anything about China or coming out of China HAS to be bad or un-praiseworthy. Nothing to be admired, nothing to learn from. China is seen as the perpetual student, always under the tutelage of the superior west.
So the west hangs on to this image of China and reinforces the aphorism, East is East and West is West is, and ne'er the twain shall meet, or at least the second part of it, for Chinese people have been learning about the west for a long time now and are now very familiar with what the west has to offer. And they are beginning to find that a lot of it is most unpleasant.

I have become fascinated by China in recent years and hope to visit soon. I think professor Brown is spot on when he talks about the spirit of the Chinese people. I watched a programme recently about the port in Shanghai that was built out of two islands. Apart from the mind boggling scale of it, I noted that, when interviewed, a crane driver was bursting with pride about how working there was helping his country. I suppose it's easy to be cynical, but I think you could probably find farmers in western china who now combine sheep farming with solar panel maintenance or silicon valley researchers who have returned from the US would have a similar tone when describing very different career stories. Yes there is rising inequality but the intensity (and effectiveness) with which the government has tackled poverty reduction is simply extraordinary. It seems to me that all of the egregious behaviour and rhetoric from the US (as a fading imperial power) aimed at China will have only one outcome: to focus the energy and efforts of the Chinese towards self-sufficiency.

Truly, I was also the same before I go China few years ago. I thought China was behind my country Malaysia in terms of infrastructure, living standard and social attitude. Mind you, I am Malaysian Chinese and of course my ancestor come from China, but I have less knowledge about China then. It was all judge by own perception. Then by chance that I 'had to go/visit China'. Seriously, those who never been to China, go and see first before you judge as what shown to you in media or movies. Communism so what? The people there is living no much different life than us in democatic countries. Really go see with own eye before you judge.
It was long planned trip with family to Guangzhou and Shenzhen but just before that trip happen, I got an incentive trip to Hainan Island. At early 30s I never have idea to go Hainan at all so my expectation was really low. But really, a place call Hainan I considered rural, is already amazed me. When I went to convenient store there and saw how they using phone to pay to buy stuff. At that time Malaysia was just introducing. So to see they just scan a barcode and go, it blew my mind. That convenient store is like a shack, far look than any 7E. Then to Guangzhou, a big city that I see so many electrified automobile on the road. The clean and wide road, cashless society that eliminate beggers and thief, their skyrise architecture and also their bullet train that take only half hour from Guangzhou to Shenzhen (you can check how far in KM or Miles, it need abt 3hours-4hours by car and we did that on return trip becoz ticket for return sold out). When I back Malaysia, I found many peole share the similar opinion before and after visit. We agree Malaysia is growing at much slower pace. From then on, I search some documentary and I can tell many manipulation were made about China. Knowledge is power, learn about China and you can know how media works. They interview non China people about China, they explain half story about China and make it look downside. But amazingly China have high wisdom, never bother but keep focusing on their people. I would like to visit China again.

At least the Chinese scholars and policy makers know much more about the western countries than their counterparts know about China. There are a few simple reasons for this: firstly, the Chinese are more open and ready to learn and appreciate new things from outside especially from the western countries; secondly, by language, there are much more Chinese who can speak English than foreigners who can speak Chinese. A Chinese scholar can read literature in both English and Chinese. A Chinese policy makers know what is happening outside through English media and what is happening in China through Chinese media. Very few western politicians can learn about what is happening in China through Chinese media as they can't read Chinese. Thirdly, just imagine the amount of Chinese tourists traveling to outside China and bringing back information each year!

William Brown is the man who is righteous and honest about his fantastic comments about China. In truth, he has seen China with his own family members and his own eyes. Seeing is believing. This holds true for the world. He is the man of great importance because he comments what he sees and tell through his inner self nature. He is a great and honour citizen I have ever come by. A great job done to himself and the China. Very touching by his pride in taking his valuable times to explore the untold truths, I bow to him sincerely and truthfully.

He's not the only one. I know of a China youtuber who is a former serviceman of US Airforce. He's now teaching English in a post secondary college in Zhongshan, China.
Edit: his channel name is Walkabout Rojo. He has Spanish/Mexican ancestry if i'm not mistaken. Cheers!

The most salient point is: Chinese are optimistic of their future. This makes China different to the US/UK.
In the West, the familiar phrase: "This generation is worse off" keeps up its appearance more often in recent yrs in news streams along with Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Venezuela ...
1 constructive advice to the west: be critical thinking, listening & speaking for your own good. If the West keeps demonizing China, debasing its achievement it will harm them first. Since it would increase the defense, or rather, Offense Budget at the expense of Education, Public Health, Social wellbeing & Infrastructures. More important than ever, the US, UK, Australia, Japan & India need more resources for their nation buildings rather than trying to contain China. It's like wrapping up the fire with thin sheet of dry papers, you get burnt soon by your own papers

China is driven by a clear vision - 中国梦(强国梦,强军梦) or the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation - a national ethos and ideals subscribed by, and resonate across the Chinese citizenry.
In its core, this national ethos of rejuvenation originates from its sociopolitical structure, to the way the nation is being governed, and the efficiency of the plans being executed - the profound effect on every aspect of life, and the progress achieved is simply unprecedented and amazing!
When the indomitable spirit of 1.439 billion people is ignited, and they start to march in unison, the formidable momentum it creates cannot be stopped by any external force!

    • @sz5263
      @sz5263 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Totally agree. When it comes to American Dream, it is all about individuals. Chinese Dream is about national rejuvenation. On the road to moderate prosperity, not a single Chinese family nor any individual will be left behind, a pledge by the great Chinese president Xi Jinping well kept.

I was in China in 1996 were I saw roads without cars and a lot of bicycles but I could see the progress arriving because many young Chinese could speak English and told us they are the first in their family that went to college, the Chinese revolution started they started with good education to everyone
