  • As I am building a 20x30 shop I need to install fascia and soffit. The fascia covers the sub fascia on the edges of the roof. This both makes the building look nice but also works to keep weather away from the building. The soffit is a board that goes up under the eves to keep bugs and birds out and still allows the attic space to breathe. I also get the gable ends sheathed with osb and tyvek.

We love your videos! we´re an argentine architectural office that works for a company in Texas. I worked 5 years in Texas, for this architect, but the girls that work with me not! so is very hard to explain them the american way of construction. Today we discovered your videos and help me so much to make them understand the construction process! Congrats you make everthing so simple!

Nice! Looking at those cut lengths can save a lot of money on materials.

You ran roofing underlayment behind fascia board. When water comes down roof that's where it will go. Should be on top of drip edge, remember everything needs to overlap. Build is coming together nicely.

Yes! You are 100% right. I actually cut that in the next video with roofing.

Well played! As for a smooth install... if only you saw the 6 hours of off camera struggle.

My LP smartside soffit came in today at Menards, got to grab it tomorrow. Reading LP's website, they wants it supported on all sides so I ripped 2x2 to run along my side and gable end walls. My eaves are horizontal so I have birdboxes framed in at the ends.

I like it. Seems to do well as a soffit. I agree about support on all sides. The 1/2" is plenty thick to nail/screw every 2' and be good.

@sethcraftworkshop I think it's 3/8"? I bought unvented for my gable overhang, oddly it comes in 4x8 sheets.

1 thing to consider...on this precut fascia slits, if its not dome already some cheap nylon window screen stapled over them will help keep the creepy crawlies out

Thank you. Getting the soffit on is one of the more tedious tasks of this build.

many thanks! do you really need the soffit board rather than block above top plates? do you use 16x144" soffit board? about $100 per sheet seems expensive, why don't you use 4x8 ply to cut then add soffit vent?
