Happy birthday, Brian! I’m sorry that you got such a bad painful burn, I hope it heals completely quickly. Beth I’m so impressed with your ability to convert all of the crops you grow and find around the area. Your weekly chats are a real highlight for me. I feel like I’m sitting right there and it’s a real visit. It reminds me of going home to see my brother and sister. And you make it all look so easy, even though anyone can see how much work you are both doing. Have a great week.
You’re sweet. Thank you. This week, due to a burgeoning demand 🤣, we’re going to show some more rehab. Glad you like watching. That makes us feel great! Hope you have a great week.
@beeseurotravel I follow Nicki Positano and her family and they just bought a house in Tuscany. One of the crazy things they had also happen is the old owners took all the cabinets and sinks! Crazy!!
Best birthday wishes to you, Brian! Hope you'll prosper in your Sicilian homesteading adventure this year to come. By the way, I've watched some of your videos and find them very inspiring and refreshing. It's really marvelous to observe the progress you make over the weeks and months since you arrived last year. I'm increasingly impressed by your natural, positive and entertaining way of presenting daily chores and activities, interspersed with more leisurely, relaxing pursuits and pastimes. The chitter-chat between Beth and Brian appears very natural to me, quite amusing and doesn't make me feel left out at all. On the contrary, so leave it as it is, please. Just stay true to your humble selves, it wil keep the updates sparkling and spontaneous and should prevent this part of the enterprise from becoming artificial or boring. How kind and generous of you to allow so many of us 'outsiders' a glimpse into your daily battles and hardships. And also to let us join in your moments of contentment and delight, as you settle in Sicily and choose to live your 'second youth'. Cheers, from the Netherlands! Kees Pilaar
Carob chocolate cake is also divine. I love its flavor. Brownies are better than with Cocoa. Ciao ragazzi! Rain in August is very uncommon. Usually, it doesn’t start until the second half of October or November. Two years of low rainfall, especially last year; barely any. That might explain this unusual rainy August. In Palermo, where my mom is (I live in Michigan but I always keep updated with what is going on with my mamma) and it's been raining there too. A blessing, because I was starting to get worried. Two years of drought can be managed, but it must rain this winter, or next summer could be problematic. I’m optimistic, though early rain is usually a good sign. Water tanks provide peace of mind during rough periods, but I hope you guys will never need to use one! We have a giant one that's been sitting unused since the drought of the late '90s. Happy belated birthday, Brian, and speedy recovery! Ciao!

Good to watch another video from you, sorry for the trash all around I think is worst habit we have here, you have to try carrub gelato in Ragusa it's amazing. For the almond, you have go around the tree two or three times before you pass to the next tree and the same is for the olive. I've been enjoying your videos. I laughed at Beth's use of the term honkers when describing the almond size. I've only ever heard people my age (Gen X), and from the PNW use the term. Very relatable.
Happy Birthday Brian, just wanted to say I really love watching your videos. I was in Sicily with my family last week and I was happy to see that the free way from Taormina to Palermo was easy to drive on and from Cefalù to my dads town called Valguarnera was easy too. However the road from Valguarnera to Caltagirone wasn’t so good. I hope you guys get to visit Caltagirone (that’s my mums town) they have amazing ceramics there. 🤗🥰
Thanks and it’s on the list!! The major highways here are normally good but man some of the little roads can be a MESS! Glad you had a nice time. This is a great little island 😊
It's great to see that you are making progress with the house; I'd love to see more of that. We'll definitely have to try the carob recipes when we arrive, too. Happy Birthday, Brian! Hopefully you have recovered from the burn.
We always got carob pods in our Christmas stockings. Still love them and have some left from last Christmas. They are sold in some Italian stores. I am going to try planting some seeds.
Just got back from visiting family in pachino from Aug 7-23, wow the heat was unbelievable! Loved every minute though. Happy to see you changed your intro from andiamo to amunini like a real Siciliano! I live in Canada 38 years old, I’m seriously considering selling everything and moving there to retire early. Cheers love the videos
First of all, Happy Birthday Brian. I was wondering what you two do for transportation? Do y'all have a car or is everything just close enough to walk? My wife and I are looking at the Eastern part of Sicily and love the city of Palazzolo. We are still working on our Italian but not sure if it will be good enough to get our license. Was wondering how the transportation is in that area. We can't wait to watch your videos every week and love how y'all are so natural in front of the camera. Y'all take care and keep up the good work.
Thanks. You’re nice 😊 I can’t say enough good things about Palazzolo. It’s a great place to live BUT public transportation stinks. I think there’s a bus to Siracusa but that’s about it. You need to have a car. We are going to have to tackle the license challenge soon. It really, truly sucks that the test is not offered in English, but we will have to find a way! Glad you like the videos. Thanks for watching.
Ooo i hope your burn heals. Aloe Vera brilliant for healing. But you probably know this. Question-is there a festival every week! Seems a lot of festivities in your area. Wonderful. We should be in your neck of woods for new years. We have seen a few properties that peaked our interest!
You are on your roof deck, wow. Thank you for the weekly updates from me living down under closer to the Antarctic, and I love your choice of living. How are the house renovations coming along? Lived in Europe during the last century, an avid hunter and miss that season, I could do with the exercise as an approach to medical misconduct here in ...........downunder.
Pretty good, thanks. Lots more to show this week 😊 I used to do a lot of bird hunting with my Dad. Don’t really like to shoot things anymore but those were good times!

Interesting about picking up carob pods on a bike ride. I knew from the health food stores carob was healthy but never thought of where they came from. Also, harvesting almonds. I'm originally from Portland, Oregon, too. Although, I'm 77 and currently live in Colorado. Funny, you picked up on beer? or was it wine? being from the N.W. I'd never been able to make that distinction. We've had the same hot weather & thunderstorms - I think it's a global weather phenomenon - these days. Looks like you're enjoying your Sicily lifestyle! I'll subscribe as a birthday gift plus I'll enjoy watching.
Takes about 20 hours of filming and editing to get a 20 minute video out. And because we try to keep them very current (and lots of things happen on the weekend here) it’s a challenge. So 🤷♂️
Hello guys, each time I see you taking care of your farm I get jealous. I'd like to have a little field to plant some fruit tree and vegetables me as well 😊 By the way, do you have ever tried to make some "latte di mandorla"? (almond milk) Trough that almonds got from tree you could make it. If you like I can get you the recipe. Silvio
Are you guys worried about healthcare or infrastructure there? I just read an article yesterday that the Italian government passed a law stating which is going to result in much less government funding for the southern part of the country. I was looking at Puglia or Sicily or retirement but I'm concerned about some of the recent government policies. Did you guys have to take a driving test in Italian?
I keep hearing nothing but positive things from our friends about healthcare here. No horror stories. We have no experience yet so 🤷♂️ for sure. I don’t know anything about the new law, but infrastructure here outside of some excellent highways is generally poor. We knew that coming in and accept it.
