I bought the cheapest Porsche 718 Cayman S in the whole entire county in hopes to rebuild it myself. But there's a few things we need to check before i jump into the rebuild project to make sure its actually worth the time as i have quickly found out that Porsche parts are not cheap!

Have you previously bought any cars that you didn't get to fix up and so they were never seen on the channel? Maybe because you've realised it's structurally unsound or it's engine was screwed? Obviously with each one you buy you are taking a chance with not being able to view it before buying.

I actually don't think the damaged doors and bumper is from fork lift misuse. I think it's possible from lifting with straps from a ditch... Either that or it was strapped to a flat bed with ratchet straps...

      That was my thoughts

    • @Doovde69
      @Doovde69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Yep, that was my thoughts, looks to me with the wheel damage and dirt in the front end, it's most probably spun off a road (or a track) and probably landed in a ditch, and then been removed with straps around to lift it out, and the buckles have dug in to the sides.

I’ve purchased from CoPart, nearly every car has had damaged sill joints , dented chassis rails, damaged exhaust systems and cracked plastics underneath, I’ve seen more damage done by the loaders than in the accident, they really do need to address this issue.

I came to this spot after watching probably 1/2 of the TT videos (2018?) but the last 3 I watched I was very disappointed in the level of dedication of getting things done right on the rebuild , not giving up and blaming others like E-Bay for the spoiler that didn't fit right; you could have correct this situation; you are not a stupid mechanic.
So "Back to the Future" I arrived here to see if you have gotten back on track with doing things right. Your choice of the Porsche is of course GREAT as it is my favorite car. So I will be sitting and watching how you handle the repair and your attitude towards making things look right.
-No photos of where the parts were attached to the car before you take them out? If you can do this without the photos for reference that would be good.
    - We (us watching) can't see where and how you organize and stack your parts. Is there a secret back room where all of this is done?
    - In order to follow your video I have a kind of conversion of $$$$ to pounds. $100 USD = about 85 British pounds. Note: yes I know that British symbol for pounds is not pounds or lbs.
See you at the next video... but it seems like this viedo is so new I will probably have to watch one of your other videos (Range Rover, Lambo, etc) so I can get my entertainment/knowledge at the end of my work day.

It shares parts because it's part of the VW AUDI Group, there's normally a bleed program for the cooling system on these new VAG motors so double check if it has one, there will be many parts that are off other makes and models so check everything including seat and skoda, might help you keep costs down more

If you have to redo most pannels, do them in carbon fiber. Hides a lot, makes it look better. Just the Part out of fiberglas + 1 top layer of carbonfiber. THAN the cayman should be more worth than a new one and still be cheaper than a new one. + you can salvage the parts for required frames =)

mat have you contacted Porsche directly for parts? because they are often cheaper to get one brand new from Porsche. this often applies to older Porsches like the 987/997 gen but may also apply to 718

Well done Matt for discovering the cause of the uniform dents, and me personally I would have bought the issue up with copart

Should discount you for damage caused from mishandling the goods. That's some serious damage caused by just moving the car around. Like Mat said and showed in the video, every panel on the car was damaged. Surely they must have a proper procedure to follow, which doesn't destroy valuable cars like this!

Lol copart wont give a toss ! It’s all in the photos , the car has had a light roll I’d say all the front and rear damage is caused by shunting copart staff don’t have a clue

Why dont you use somes bars leaks for the rad just to test, and then buy a rad when all is good.

That rad pack brkt, were they spot welds or SPR (self pierce rivet)? Looked too clean for spot welds! That aside, loving these builds 👍🏻

Really, Forklift damage? I think it was rolled and they are recovery strap damage from when it was righted

    Have you tried T-Cut?
Most of that should polish out.

If I am not mistaken,, the new aluminium panel's are bounded onto the chassis. You use a special adhesive. Looks like that Cayman was rolled over in a field a few times ! Get a front windscreen and see if it fit's before doing body panel's,, incase A pillars are slightly twisted out of line. Stop bidding on cars when your high 🤣

Just my opinion and not detracting from the video - the A Pillar is deformed which ever way you look at it, I can see the dent. You have to remember that this car has already rolled, probably into a ditch as the door marks are from lifting straps. The fact that the windscreen was shattered in such a way suggests A pillar loading. I wouldn't be surprised if getting the windscreen in properly will be an issue. That A pillar is what stops the roof collapsing in a rollover along with the B pillar. Please get it inspected Mat, Id hate for anything like this to hold you up further into the build. More top content however :)

The damage is not from a fork lift, it comes from lifting straps or chains
