Can't live without my multimeter. Even use it to check light bulbs and regular batteries. Additionally, the continuity feature is a huge help if you think a switch is bad. I would recommend that one learn the basics of a multimeter. It might look confusing on the face of it but it is well worth learning.
Given the Vectra battery results and the fact the app and Bluetooth link is just another complication, I’d say a more traditional battery tester is the way to go. Good video though!

I really like the idea of the app controlled battery analyzer. The only problem is that there will be a dependency with the manufacturer to keep updating the app in the future for new Android or IOS versions. I did buy some bluetooth devices before where the manufacturer doesn't update the app and the devices are unusable in a couple of years time. I need a battery tester now and considering the BT100 or BT200.
Also something to note with the BT Mobile. Topdon sells 4 different versions of this. BT Mobile, BT Mobile Pro, BT Mobile Pro S and BT Mobile Lite. I asked the manufacturer about the differences and the only difference I noticed other than the size is the accuracy. Lite has 10%, BT Mobile has 2% and BT Mobile Pro has 1%. I am guessing the lower the better here.
I used to work for a large retailer called Half.....Witt's, we had a super duper tester provided by YUASA.
Test a battery under the setting "Warranty battery", if there was a problem it would say charge and retest. 9 out of 10 it would come back good battery.
If you did the test on the same battery, and didn't select "warranty" it would say "REPLACE".

Same tester that EuroCarParts use when you try a warranty claim on a battery. Never go there ever again, use Tayna batteries online.

I believe the “Pass” just meant the test was successful on the battery and the results were that the battery was needing replaced.

My local scrap yard has more lion batteries in there bin than you can shake a stick at, when winter comes around so dose starting problems. Buy once and cry every 5 years or more not every year. Good vid martin keep up the quality as always bud.

ive just got the topdon bt500p cracking bit of kit . can do a/c ripple on the diode packs the ripple is the a /c that the diodes can not fully smooth to dc . all topdon stuff is quality

Hi Martin, here is a brief explanation of the "charging ripple". Each alternator generates a pulsating direct current. These pulses should be buffered (smoothed) in a healthy battery. The battery acts like a capacitor. If the battery is sick, these pulses will be visible during the measurement. In this way you can see whether the capacity of the battery corresponds to the specifications.

Charging Ripple tells whether or not you have a bad diode in the alternator that would cause excessive voltage ripple that can cause flickering lights and even driveability issues.

Yes, I know that now Alan but at the time there was no reference what values to use in the manual explaining that. I think they need to explain that in the manual. I did what everybody else would have done and used the info in the manual. There was no reference to using the EN, only the CCA

@@retrorestore you entered cca on your lion battery but that's incorrect the lion battery is rated to EN standard not CCA so you will get the wrong result battery-service.com/support/cca/
@@retrorestore different manufactures measure "there" cca rating in different ways! ie en rating will be different to say jis ratings etc!!! l have seen fast fit stations enter a jis rating instead of what should be a en rating to show customers that there battery needs replacing!!! you get a different cca reading on there test kit! get the idea!!! regards p.s en or jis etc will be on the battery!
@@alanreynolds2125 That's confusing for the user Alan, I just put in what the instructions said and there was no reference to what you explained so it would be impossible for a person to know that without being told I think. Good point though. Maybe the company need to amend their instructions to make it clearer.

Multimeters cant diagnose a battery just show you the voltage...
Those charging test results are a bit low. Would expect at least 14v.
They are all with every accessory off so ok. I'd be more worried if you put the fan and headlights on and it wasn't kicking out 14.2v

I've always used a multimeter got one in my glovebox. (don't tell no one. ) 😉
I bought the more cheapo version a few years back from Amazon, does it all but uses LED blinks to communicate. Sadly my Reliant's battery is all but packed in and I jump off an old Seat Ibiza battery in the front footwell when want to go out, shame the Ibiza's battery wasn't just a shade too tall as its a bloody strong 600 amps CCA bugger but oh well and tried everything from the BatAid tablets to fresh acid... it is a dying battery and will be next buy for the old girl.

Maybe the battery test failed due to battery being sat and lost charge? I’m guessing the battery test is for batteries used daily obviously is the battery fails the charge test should also fail. Well that’s what I would assume

You are using it incorrectly. You should have entered the cranking capacity as EN not CCA as they are different standards ie 550A CCA is 520A EN see battery-service.com/support/cca/
Here's the thing Peter, You can only go by the instructions and as I have never used this bit of kit before, I used it as anyone else would have done given the information in the manual. If I would have asked the company to instruct me then it wouldn't have been a fair assessment. I don't think that page you linked to explains anything the layman could understand.
