I like the way the Southernaires did it. The instrument in the background is absolutely haunting. I especially like the tenor. Beautiful song and inspires one to want to be with the Lord. God bless everyone who can sing like them.
Bryan Hutson is one of my all time favorite Lead singers. He was at his peak here with the Kingsmen, and for a few years prior to this point. He's good still, (singing w/Soul'd Out) but no where nearly as good as those few years just prior to his leaving the Kingsmen. He's great, I have to say, my favorite Lead.
I believe he was the baritone in this particular lineup. Soul'd Out originally had more of a country flavored sound (which I preferred), but now seem more progressive.
I love the song and this version but I think it is attributed to the wrong composer. The Old Ship of Zion" is a Christian hymn written by M. J. Cartwright sometime around 1889 (exact date not known), played to a tune written by Daniel B. Towner.

1 of the best bass vocalists ever. And The Kingsmen never sounded the same when Garry Sheppard left
The bass is very good too.
Mary Williams That would be The Gospel Music Hall Of Farmer Ray Dean Reese.
Ray Dean Reese.
A choir director I knew once used to say... "Promise him anything, but bring me a tenor...,". They are hard to find sometimes.
Amen
One of my very favorites but I believe they're singing this way too slowly.

This video isn't very loud. I've got it wide open and I can't hardly ear it although it's easier now that they've started singing.
Use your earbuds.
When someone sends me a congratulatory message I cannot access it! Help!
On my way out to the car
