  • British Columbia’s Cariboo region is home to some of the province’s best, and most secluded trout fishing.
In this feature, fishing partners Gill Steele and Catherine Laflamme embark on an adventure with the intention to explore this region's still and moving water opportunities, fishing for both stocked and wild rainbow trout.
“The reason we go fishing together as much as we do is just exploring new places”
Though Gill and Catherine reside on the west coast of BC, they are both well-versed in trout fishing in the interior region. Travelling north from Kamloops will lead you to the community of 100 Mile House in the South Cariboo. Dotting the map around this town are countless quality managed still waters and a couple of wild trout streams that see far less pressure than their southern counterparts.
The South Cariboo region also has the highest density of fishing resorts of anywhere in the province. On this trip, Gill and Catherine stayed at the newly renamed and renovated South Point Resort on Canim Lake.
“The Cariboo is undeniably beautiful in its own way, and having the ability to do stillwater and moving water trips in the same weekend is something that is unique to this region”

Wow. I felt like I was watching 'a river runs through it'. Great cinematography. Some good sized lakers at Canim. But I love Sheridan Lake for the huge rainbow trout that taste delicious. Thank you for the video - that was a real treat.

We go to a cabin in the family within 5 mins walking distance from Fawn Lake. It’s sooo nice there. Clean air and relaxing

We were on the same water the week prior. Absolutely spectacular under the falls and more hits on a dry than I could count.

This is my back yard, the territory of Secwepemc people. I fish this river every week. So amazing. During freshet we get huge fish in from the lake.
