    Dolphin owner from France here! I love your video. French TH-camrs reviewed that car at least a year ago and BYD did some much improvements using OTA updates. Now, still hoping for better regen and route planner next ❤. When I got the car, it was right before EU started adding taxes on Chinese cars, so I got it for a bit less than 25k €, which, I believe is just the best car on the market for that price.

    BYD owner feedback from Australia! Nice work on the quick review, Kyle. My experience of the car (same high spec model as Kyles).
    - Fantastic value for money, given all the features and extras it has. Beats some of the non Tesla EVs even when they are double the price. Only AUD36-44k driveaway, no subsidy here in NSW, and no car tariffs in Australia (we have a free and open car market, so get acces to all the best car choices).
    - Software overall is not quite as good as Tesla, but it does have Apple/Android wireless connectivity (since version 1.3 of the OTA). I use it mostly around town, no need to do route planning (but a third party app called ABRP is Apple compatible and does all this anyway if needed).
    - I can charge at (most) Tesla Superchargers V3/V4 etc if needed, so no range anxiety. I get around 400-450km range. Non Tesla chargers are still fairly unreliable here.
    - This is not a car you are going to race around in, or push hard (sorry Kyle). The day to day driving dynamics are really good (much better than my old ICE car) and can be tweaked. I have the steering in sport mode (more direct), but otherwise drive in normal mode as the sport mode is quite aggressive around town in terms of acceleration etc. I never have a problem with wheel spin, noting that the tires are not great and I will replace them in time (some markets sell the car with better tires). Open road long distance driving is great, especially with all the driver assistance.
    - Early versions of the car had issues with ADACs (driving assistance/traffic sign recognition etc). This has now been fixed - no more bings and bongs, and can be turned off if not needed.
    - Given the outside dimensions, interior space is amazing, especially for back seat passengers. Styling is a personal thing, but I love the interior (not bland/boring), and I don't mind the relatively standard exterior - less likely to be keyed by EV haters.

      I have a Tesla Y and my wife has a BYD Dolphin, I regularly drive my friends BYD Atto 3 - I love my Tesla but the Dolphin is great little run around town car. The things that I love about the Tesla (mainly the minimalism and auto steer an UI for driving - 1 click cruise control etc) are things that my wife doesn't like or would never use. I am waiting for Tesla to build a smaller city car - would buy in a heart beat. The space in the Dolphin is amazing (coming from a Mazda CX-3) and once you turn off all the electronic 'aids' it is much easier to live with. Ideally the Dolphin was rear wheel drive but getting pretty picky...

    It's a great car. I bought mine in China last year for 130,000 RMB about $18,000 USD. Your review was right on. Living in big city of Guangzhou it's a fantastic car and fun to drive. Charges from 0 to 100% in little over an hour. 20-80% in 30 minutes. Just reached 18,000 KM/11,000 Mi. No issues or problems, good on the highway, a little noisy at speed, but a tire change might help that. I still have the original tires which are, again okay. I couldn't come close to the quality and performance for the same money in the USA.

    I saw your review on the BYD Seal and both of the occasions you have mentioned the very fine tuning's. I know to a car-person these are important, and given time, I think BYD will sort out all of these issues.
    This is important to keep in mind that BYD, although has been producing cars for a while now, the earlier ones were in no way competitive/drivable ones. These new generation of EV's are the real deal and has been on the market (mostly in China) for a couple of years and are just expanding to outside of China. I hope they eventually dial down the very last of the fine tunings (both software and hardware) as these cars goes to even more regions and gets the all important driver feedbacks.
    Great review once again and pointing out the stuffs that needs to be fixed/improved. Try to do a full review of the BYD Seagull.

    Technically, the 100% tariff on Chinese made EVs does not come into effect until August 1st of this year. However, the only car that will initially be impacted by this is the new Mini Cooper EV which is made in China. Mini had hoped to release the new version of the electric Mini in the US later this year but now will have to wait until production is switched to Europe (maybe 2025, but more likely 2026).

    This model, along with the Atto 3 crossover, will likely be the first BYD EV sold in the US market if BYD decides to finally sell their EV's in the USA. BYD will not try to compete agianst the larger Tesla Model 3 and Model Y just yet, especially since there are way too many competitors also in that category.

    Looks fun and fresh, but a cheap runabout it ain't: most people that want a cheap runabout buy used, or are looking at under 20,000 if they want new, which usually means new EVs are out of reach, but recently there have been a torrent of announcements from the likes of Citroen, Fiat, Dacia etc. that will be priced in the 15,000 to 20,000 range (I'm most excited about the new Fiat Panda).

    Does it have the ability to aim the vents _independent_ of throttling the flow? The Bolt does not, if you aim a vent at your face it cuts off the airflow.

    • @CampGareth
      @CampGareth หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, within limits. Point a vent straight up and it'll bounce off its surround a bit and go forwards. Half closing a vent is tricky as there's not much feedback, only a firm click at full open and full close.
