    Latest BIOS update on my 2021 XPS 15 made the audio not switch between headphones, made my screen go black randomly when connecting a monitor, made my mouse disappear. Rebooting resets this stuff like 5/10 times, cant help but think the new roll out of XPS laptops has something to do with this update. Worked flawlessly up until now... Never buying dell again lol

    • @ComputerStuff
      @ComputerStuff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll want to update your BIOS and that will probably get it to work in Windows. It's a common thing for certain trackpads in Dell's but more commonly Lenovo's. Go to Dell's site, click on their Driver section. And update the BIOS using their software. If you have a regular mouse instead of the trackpad you can use in the meantime that will make things easier.

    • @ComputerStuff

      Most computers require you to be plugged in when doing a BIOS update. It's highly recommended in case the battery is low and so it doesn't accidentally turn off!

      ALWAYS DO BIOS update by itself, don't let it bundle with the other updates (uncheck all the other drivers), then do any remaining critical updates, then do the non-critical updates. Before doing ANY of this, make sure your Windows updates have been fully run and re-run like check them 3 to 4 times in a row to make 100 percent sure they are done. All of this could take some time, lots of time. if you haven't done a BIOS update in a long long time, your risk of bricking the computer goes way up. See if you can find a way to stair-step it up to the latest. If you brick the computer (laptop) you could hose the mobo. Proceed with caution and do an Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Premium image BEFORE you do ANY of this. You'll want a bare-metal restorable backup. IF you brick it, you can replace the mobo and restore the Acronis image by booting from the external drive you setup with the "TOOL" components of Acronis. Again, if you take on any of this, be forewarned to be smart about backups. Also, if you do all of these updates and an application software projectile vomits on you, you may have to revert some updates to exorcise the demons.

    Last evening I came across what was labeled as 5 critical updates. I noticed that most of the categories were up to date, but somehow this one was not. So I ran the updates which took about a half hour as each update was checked off. I tested the function of all our normally used apps before turning in, all seemed to function as usual. Well, except the one Microsoft Money app which showed that it wasn't even set up yet. So I went looking for my associated files which I use once or twice daily, no where to be found. By now I didn't find this amusing as these files now had compiled 13 months of income & spending summaries in them. Eventually after searching all of my file storage devices I gave up and resorted to choosing a restore point and recovering what I had before Dell made a mess for me. In summary, I don't find this surprising. Dell has adopted a business practice over the years that supposedly saves or earns them money by cutting corners to deliver to the customer.

    How do I update the BIOS of my Dell latitude E5470.
    Currently the BIOS version is 1.22.3 installed on 2/17/2020.
    The latest BIOS for update is of version 1.33.3 which is released on 09 Nov 2022.
    Should I install this update or do I upgrade one step at a time as there are many versions available before the current latest version.
    My question or consern is can I skip all the updates and directly install the latest BIOS version.
    There are 9 BIOS version available before the latest 09 Nov 2022 version.

    • @ComputerStuff
      @ComputerStuff ปีที่แล้ว

      If you go to Dell's website, and go to their driver and support section they offer a utility to download and install the updates for you. You do not need to do sequential updates with the BIOS update, you should be fine just going to the latest!

    • @ComputerStuff
      @ComputerStuff ปีที่แล้ว

      @@codingandtech5909 I've installed BIOS updates on thousands of Dells. I assure you, they don't need to be done in sequential order. Just grab the latest update from Dell's website and you should be good to go!

    • @ComputerStuff
      @ComputerStuff ปีที่แล้ว

      @@codingandtech5909 While I'd be happy to help normally, there may not be a "quick fix" to getting your external hard drive to work. It could be anything from an Upper Filter device issue to naming convention to chipset incompatibility. The options are kind of endless. That said I would recommend that you back up before you do any of the BIOS updates. I'll say this, the likely hood of something going wrong with the BIOS update is next to nothing, but that said, you should backup just in case.
