Latest BIOS update on my 2021 XPS 15 made the audio not switch between headphones, made my screen go black randomly when connecting a monitor, made my mouse disappear. Rebooting resets this stuff like 5/10 times, cant help but think the new roll out of XPS laptops has something to do with this update. Worked flawlessly up until now... Never buying dell again lol
Thank you for educating me on this topic. My laptop has been disconnecting from my Wifi and I didn’t know why. I followed the instructions and now I’m waiting. Fingers crossed❤
Last evening I came across what was labeled as 5 critical updates. I noticed that most of the categories were up to date, but somehow this one was not. So I ran the updates which took about a half hour as each update was checked off. I tested the function of all our normally used apps before turning in, all seemed to function as usual. Well, except the one Microsoft Money app which showed that it wasn't even set up yet. So I went looking for my associated files which I use once or twice daily, no where to be found. By now I didn't find this amusing as these files now had compiled 13 months of income & spending summaries in them. Eventually after searching all of my file storage devices I gave up and resorted to choosing a restore point and recovering what I had before Dell made a mess for me. In summary, I don't find this surprising. Dell has adopted a business practice over the years that supposedly saves or earns them money by cutting corners to deliver to the customer.
Most computers require you to be plugged in when doing a BIOS update. It's highly recommended in case the battery is low and so it doesn't accidentally turn off!

@@ComputerStuff That’s what I mean. I went both to the AMD and Dell website and yet cannot find the latest drivers. Perhaps my laptop is just too old and they don’t care about it. 😀

hey, should i install this on my precision 5760 , the laptop fan's are making so much noise especially while charging or gaming , does updating bios helps? thanks!
It can help, yes. If your issue is with power management a BIOS update may alleviate Dell's algorithm for your fans. The alternative is you'll need to reapply the thermal paste on it. We have a video for that too.
I like your video. I have just updated all my drivers and bios. I still have one problem. I cannot boot from a flash drive. I have the UEFI BIOS Mode running, and have learned that becuase I have SMBIOS VER 2.8., that I can not boot from USB flash drive. How can I update my SMBIOS to 3.0 or later. I've not been able to find any instructions on the internet other than standard BIOS updates (which I have completed).
What kind of flash drive are you trying to boot to? That plays a big role as well. Make and model of flash drive, and then the software you are trying to boot to. One thing you may want to do is disable SECURE BOOT in BIOS and see if that helps.
@@ComputerStuff Thank you for responding. Getting to my BIOS has been part of the issue all along. I have tried several brands of flash drives. My configuration does not allow me to use F2 or F12, or any other key at startup (possibly because of my video card?). I cannot access the BIOS setup on power up. I have never been able to get to it, even from the UEFI screen boot options. I have been able to get the Kubuntu flash drive to boot on an older (10+) Asus computer, so I have K 24.02 loaded on it. That is a workable solution for me until I can obtain a non-Dell computer system to take over as my new primary system. I think it boils down to a Dell issue. If you know a good tutorial video/software package for learning Kubuntu, I would love to try it. Thanks again! Nathan
i have the optiplex 7010 matherboar and i have a13 bios update and i cant upgate my bios . i download update like u in this video but i when i click on this file it does nothing. (boot mode disabled , bios type uefi)
You'll want to update your BIOS and that will probably get it to work in Windows. It's a common thing for certain trackpads in Dell's but more commonly Lenovo's. Go to Dell's site, click on their Driver section. And update the BIOS using their software. If you have a regular mouse instead of the trackpad you can use in the meantime that will make things easier.
ALWAYS DO BIOS update by itself, don't let it bundle with the other updates (uncheck all the other drivers), then do any remaining critical updates, then do the non-critical updates. Before doing ANY of this, make sure your Windows updates have been fully run and re-run like check them 3 to 4 times in a row to make 100 percent sure they are done. All of this could take some time, lots of time. if you haven't done a BIOS update in a long long time, your risk of bricking the computer goes way up. See if you can find a way to stair-step it up to the latest. If you brick the computer (laptop) you could hose the mobo. Proceed with caution and do an Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Premium image BEFORE you do ANY of this. You'll want a bare-metal restorable backup. IF you brick it, you can replace the mobo and restore the Acronis image by booting from the external drive you setup with the "TOOL" components of Acronis. Again, if you take on any of this, be forewarned to be smart about backups. Also, if you do all of these updates and an application software projectile vomits on you, you may have to revert some updates to exorcise the demons.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I bought my computer 2 years ago it did 22 updates and took 7 hrs but now I am up to date. Thank you so much for this!! You rock!!
