Great explanation. Been looking for a Texas Shuffle interpretations for a month. You nailed it. Most intermediate and pro players just need an example. Yours is spot on ! Thank you
I first heard the double shuffle on Bobby Blands Turn on your love light which to this day I can't play a double shuffle that fast. Jabo Starks was the drummer on that cut . I gotta tell ya its a tough lick to learn. But there were drummers around OKC , OK. Where I grew up. Bill Maxwell the for Third Ave Blues band , who also played for Koininia jazz band, played the lick flawlessly , Tracy Ramsey who played drums with my uncles Band. Richie and the Hitchhikers could play Love Light , I used to watch him and was just amazed at his speed playing that lick. There was another guy that was revered by the name of Johnny Glassup . That could nail it also. I believe he was from Texas as well. Man I tip my hat to anyone who can play Love Light and play it with a double shuffle.
if this whole video had been just you explaining how "the snare drum alone should be strong enough to drive the beat" it would have been worth it. Cheers.
...sorry but that's not a double shuffle ! A double shuffle is both hands doing the EXACT same thing ! Hence, double. Shuffle off to Buffalo sometime and we'll show you. Your variations are fine, though. Say hey to Finnigan.
“There’s a train coming down the track, I suppose I’d better get with it,,,”. I would love to see you play that shuffle on its own. Cheers Tony.👍

Loose snare wires seem to create a natural reverb and pick up more of the grace notes. great stuff.

Easy Living by Uriah Heep is a good example of a fast shuffle
Check out Turn on your Love Light by Bobby Bland. Great double shuffle on that cut , drummer was Jabo Starks who also played drums for James Brown.
I saw him play with Robert Cray last year.
I always thought it meant the kick is predominantly quarter notes…which is sort of the case here
IyIyi. Makes me wanna drop my sticks.. Guy plays like a machine. And talking molar ... oy boy.
