  • In an effort to explain to our friend Jake at the @1911sydicate the purpose of our full cycle commander and the tolerances in our machining... we figured it would be easier just to show him.. so we swapped a Gran Torino Government Slide to a Gentleman's Carry Commander frame... And we shot it.
    P.S. We don't recommend you try this at home.

    Fitting a commander slide on a government frame ??

    Can this be done the other way around? Put the commander slide on the full size frame?

    I asked Nighthawk if they can do that with their 1911/2011's, and they said no. Cabot CNC's to the same tolerance, but do very little hand fitting. Nighthawk does the whole handgun from a gunsmith (Hand fitted).

    Cabot ICON is brutally sexy! Cabot is all around unreal quality.

    Sorry guys, but this is not new news at all. I am surprised by by how much you guys are surprised upon discovering the1911 swapping slides.. If the guns are series 70 you can switch slides with the frames from an officer to commander to a full government model and the same can be said for a series 80.. the frames and slides are designed to the same spec in each series group. the reason to remain the swapping in each series group is to have the right interaction between the safety levers and the firing pin safety plungers in series 80 and the absence of these component in series 70.
    That said, depending on the fit and finish tolerance, you might run into some problems due to the ejector dimensions.. Some older models had beefier ejectors and the slides were fitted for clearing these beefy ejectors. In that case you might have upside compatibility but not downside compatibility.. Until you work on a 1911, do a trigger job or fit some components you will not comprehend how much the design, is simple, reliable and amazingly easy to master.

      What do you. Expect, these two clowns are salesmen only, know nothing about how 1911’s actually work, might get dirty 😂😂

    Had a feeling it was possible but didn’t think that it would function properly or reliably

    I don’t see the big deal ….the barrel is fitted to the slide not the frame ( unless a ramped barrel ) you just have a shorter dust cover

      Exactly, those two guys are idiots, one guy represents Cabot and he’s NEW to 1911’s😂😂that’s scary plus he’s scared of dirt. You can tell, he’s a prissy little boy😂😂

    Most commanders have shorter dust cover and rails and the barrel lug groove in the frame is farther back ....a commander slide on a full size has never ran reliably in my experience...Unless they make there frames different than colts full size or commander or rock islands

    So can that be done with a Ruger SR1911 Commander?

    • @blakegavin6972

      Maybe with a ruger sr 1911 government. But mixing company’s would be a shot in the dark

    Could the four and a quarter inch slide fir on the 5” frame????

    • @zzxxooooxxzz4964
      @zzxxooooxxzz4964 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's dangerous, even if you were to happen to get it on the rails far enough to actually have the hammer drop on the firing pin the slide &barrel would be shorter than the "dust cover" probably causing it to not cycle correctly.. It may be able to get the 1st round off but not going to cycle correctly..

    • @Cabot1911
      @Cabot1911  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes... we could've swapped the other way around since the frame is the same.

    • @Cabot1911
      @Cabot1911  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zzxxooooxxzz4964 not with ours... the frame is the same on both commander and full size.
