    We got married at a registry office, no guests, it was free. We went to a chinese buffet after and were too poor to go listen to the music festival that was on so we sat by the river and managed to hear it really well. The Pixies were playing.

    I come from poor, my friends come from other versions of poor. We were all told variations of don’t waste money on a one time event. Ceremonies in churches, backyards, or free public land. Potlucks, picnics, or cookouts for food. Money was spent before the wedding on securing a home or vehicle for the couple, no one did wrapped gifts, cash or check was the way to go. If you didn’t have money to give, you donated time working on the fixer upper home they’d be moving into or the vehicle they’d be driving.

    Around here, wedding buffets are the most common thing. No appetizers, just the buffet and a bar. Every wedding I’ve been to has been a buffet (including a carving station..because beef on weck is popular here)

I hope you do find a great caterer Josh because that idea of having a menu based on your relationship is beautiful. Also speaking of planning your wedding on company time, how about you turn this into a series? Finding affordable ways to cater a wedding in LA of all places (which i assume is very expensive just based on location)

    A wedding is "everyone's day" is a comment that says Nicole is a party host being thoughtful. The actual catering described at her wedding screamed "the wedding food is where we try to outdo every other wedding."
    Josh and Julia, if you are doing a ceremony followed by reception, be sure to have a good snack before the ceremony. Don't risk passing out from the mix of low blood sugar, nerves, possible day-drinking, feeling hot in formal clothing, and talking so much to people at your reception that you don't eat much.

    Pro tip. Spend as little as humanly possible on your wedding. Work with a local restaurant that is closed Saturday or Sunday and see if you can use the spot during that time. The more you spend on a wedding, the more likely you are to get divorced. Wedding spending is the most overrated way to blow your $$$. Do an open house style. Anything other than the boring traditional stuff that costs a ton and does nothing to help your wedding be memorable.

    • @shit_tiger
      @shit_tiger ปีที่แล้ว

      Idk about that statistic dude. Yeah I've seen marriages with fancy weddings end, but I've also seen "we don't need to spend money to express our love" courthouse weddings end less than a year later and go up in epic flames. Doesn't matter how much you spend. You're either meant to be or you're not. Low budget weddings don't equate to more love in the relationship.

    I used to cater weddings in rural Midwest, so most weren't the "classiest" affairs (that's not a knock). One trick I learned about casually serving messy hand-foods, such as pulled pork sandwiches or tacos, was to put a Tide stick on each table (many would have bubbles or disposable cameras and I'd put it there). People would think it seemed a little odd at first but by half way through all the moms and wives were raving about them. Many people are in their nicest clothes and just trying to have a good time and they probably expect to wear that same outfit to the other wedding they have to go to in a month. Help em out to stay stain free.

    My parents had appetizers and free sparkling wine and beer at their reception. That didn't stop my mom's co-workers from trying to get free drinks. Their cake was a lemon pound cake. It was supposed to be covered in buttercream roses and look like china, but it was too hot. So the bakery contacted the florist (all in the same small town) and got various colored roses to put on the cake. Prettiest cake of their generation.

    Just went to a wedding that had both sushi and a carving station which was a first for me. I’ve been to a lot of LI weddings that have these crazy cocktail hour buffets with like 4-5 stations but probably like 30+ individual dishes, sometimes it’s sushi but low lift like California roll. Pretty extra. The weddings I go to in California are not like that at all, typically passed apps for cocktail hour and then either 2-3 course meal or buffet/family style
    Food was important to us, we had a really great caterer (heirloom LA) ppl still talk about the chips and guac they put on the tables before starters
