Unlock chord-scale connectors on the guitar

- Combining chords and scales on the guitar is something that so many guitar students ask me about in their lessons with me here in Vancouver. To many, it seems like such a difficult task because when they look down at the fretboard, they see so many options, too many, and it's all overwhelming.
But the truth of it is that we only need to see a few options at any time. We don't need to see the entire fretboard -- or think about all the music theory possible -- all at once to make a decision. When we have just a few great options, these ideas "light up" on the fretboard whenever we see these opportunities. Learn how to connect major chords with the major pentatonic scale.

Hi if ever I visit Canada i would like to visit you. Iam hope my dreams come true. Tc.
@@melroybent4213 Thanks Melroy!
A simple minor scale shape exists at the same location.
I am still learning, but to my understanding for the blues we use minor scales over major chords.
Is that a Les Paul Studio? Do they Still put a PC board in them?
@Dr Ali Akram You can use major over major, and in a blues context minor pentatonic over a blues or blues rock. But we cannot use major pentatonic over a minor key. Just doesn't work 😀
Your lessons are so easy to follow. No complicated guitar theory, just straight to the point. Lots of light bulb moments for me!
Great to hear, thanks for watching and commenting!
Another light bulb moment for me there Blue. I love how you connected the lower Barre C chord with same jam session. Excellent.

Thanks James!
I can strum the guitar. Can't play lead. Watched tons of videos. Tired of playing plain scales. Now, after watching this video, i can play improvised melodies. Thank you from The Philippines
Awesome! That's great to hear! Thanks for commenting.
Totally. Try learning the 5 shapes. And then try coming out of "easy E shape" in both directions on the neck.
It will really open up what you can play.
A minor and C major are the best to learn at first.
Great explanation !
Congratulation from France🤘
Thanks Dale!
That is very, very useful - thank you! (and there wasn’t 40 minutes of incomprehensible waffle and mindless noodling before I got to the bit I could actually use in my own playing). Good stuff. 👍
Glad to hear it thanks Paul!
Great delivery. What's easy is the way you make it easy to understand. Very well put. 👏 Bravo!

That Gibson is...wow!!!❤
Thanks I really the sound of it too
Wa... Such great tips! I've been playing for more years than I care to admit and never thought of these simple ideas.... It just occurred to me that we've covered the I and IV chords of the three blues chords... That D (V) chord just two frets above the C is tantalizing close. Allman Brothers major scale blues, here we come!
Yeah love that Allman Brothers sound !!! 🎸👍
You have a real knack for making things make sense. Thank you!
Thanks Jim!!
Great thanks to remember that connect chords can be easy. ❤

Thanks for coming back Rafa!!!!
Awesome lesson! 🤠🎸
Thanks Peter!
Fantastic lesson. Thank you very much! ❤
Thank you! 😃
Many Tutorials claim to be so simple, but this one really is.. Cool!
Glad you liked it. Lots more coming 🎸
Excellent if you can find simple concepts with jazzier licks it would be awesome.. This one is ''countryish'' sounding but there is a way to turn it into some Hendrix-like Hammer-ons. Jazz tutorials are always so technical.. Yet as you know, they produce some of the most beautiful and clever licks as well as chord progressions...
Great lesson thanks
Thank you Scott!
