He was an all-American safety for coach Devaney and won a national championship. Fricking stud. Ronald Harper. RIP amigo. I learned real warrior leadership from you.

Condor in Hollywood movies. Why did the Americans fail in Vietnam? You are warmongers, creating an unjust war, the small Vietnamese people would rather die to have freedom. Your movies are so funny.
I have to come in agreement. Best Vietnam movie out there for realism , even Platoon, in my opinion. I was there . Didn't see many things like this but I know it happened from talking to my many 11 bravo friends at the Vietnam Veterans outreach program back in the early '80s.
I'm glad I finally took the time to view this film. It is as good as any number of other movies dealing with the combat theme of the Vietnam war. I felt the ending was superb and the proper message to leave with the audience, whether they have ever served or are just your average civilian. So many of the films released over the years on Vietnam focused on guilt, failure and the broken spirit of morale, with only a future filled with depressing forebodings. Platoon Leader's closing scene reveals that the show must go on, that the unity of command between Officers and Men can and will endure. They loyally served their country and asked not what it need do for them; right till the final calls of duty were completed.
My dad showed me this movie when I was in 6th grade, cool portrayal of Vietnam. I swear those Vietnam vets went through some confusing shit. But they're like order in chaos. Thank you for putting this on TH-cam!
Great film, gritty and realistic, Aussie here my father was KIA in SVN, on my 3rd birthday, 1966, he was an Aussie SAS platoon commander then transferred to the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam as an acting Captain, killed in a both side ambush on Hai Van pass, Fun fact, Aussie SAS were called "the phantoms of the jungle" by VC/NVA, they had to shit and only use 2 cigarette rollie papers to wipe and bury everything. RIP Dad, you relentless warrior..
I grew up during the Vietnam War, saw the numbers every night on the news when I got home from school. My father and I always argued about the war. He said it was necessary and I said it was a slaughter of our boys. Then they were treated like criminals when they came home. Friends that came home were changed for ever and not for the better 😢. So many were embarrassed that they were and are still. I will always shake the hand of all our vets for their service to our country! Very good movie of the men who were forced into a war we should of never gotten into

Yes, Richard Ramirez aka the Night Stalker was a lot closer to his uncle which of course a green beret Vietnam vet that had severe PTSD, most of the skill Ramirez had from his uncle
I'd like to take a moment to mention Robert F. Lyons, who plays Sgt. McNamara. He was THE 70's B flick guy, my childhood is full of his supporting roles.
Night Fight at the Fire Base: "Welcome to McDonald's, we never close, Thousands Served" Still stunned by the flying in this film. Especially the Night CAS. No CGI. So much work. This is epic work.
My Dad serverd in Nam and for years did not talk about it! He ended up getting a job with no benefits! Was not old enough yet to get medicare so i filled out his VA benefits! He was really hard set against it but once , he was in the system and realized the Nam vets are more respected these days he proudly wears his marine cap and the sticker on his truck !
This is a good example of a B-rated movie doing a lot of things better than big-budget Hollywood productions. The opening scene, the balance between action and humanity, the way they showed how many shots miss in a firefight without turning into Stormtrooper Aim... it's gooood.
Winning their hearts and minds. Served as a corpsman in RVN 1966/67. 1/1 Combined Action Platoon Delta 3 and Charlie Medical Battalion. WIA May 18, 1967. Brother died of agent orange, age 38, after doing 3 tours, Army.
Wabash cannonball aka steel beach. 1979 So. China Sea. We gathered up over 1200 took them Pattaya for transit. UK and USA 🇺🇸 received. 10 min video no sound they died many people, VN exodus 1979. Watch it.
We didn't salute in Vietnam. Good way to get shot by a sniper, so no saluting. Medevac helicopters were unarmed but the medics were allowed to carry a pistol but no M-60's. The guards protected the compounds but not the villages. That was the job of ARVN soldiers and militias. The tree lines is where most snipers hid when the helicopters landed but they quickly retreated and hid after shooting some of the American soldiers. They did not stand and fight. Most of the attacks came in the dark hours.
Let me ask you something- I was in the IDF so I find this a little odd- why do American soldiers in vietnam never strap on their helmets, it’s gonna fall as soon as you start running and ducking in a fire fight, I see the same thing in ww2 movies- any thoughts??
It took a while but when the action started, it never stopped! A good movie and I'd like to read the book now. Don't know how I missed this one when it came out. Probably cuz everyone was paying more attention to "Platoon" in 88. Another good one I watched was "Tribes" with Jan Michael Vincent. An older Viet Nam movie but another "hidden gem". I have watched this film so many times I have lost count, but this time is the first time that I realised how small the base camp was, I don’t know if that was an accurate representation of the actual base camp’s in Vietnam or a typical defensive setup, but It strikes me that it is not what I would describe as being a defensible base, the barbed wire etc looks inadequate and close to the domestic area, would it be better if they had a much larger “no mans land” between the outer wire and the next line of defence?. I am not an expert on defensive positions by any stretch of the imagination 💭 so I would be grateful to someone who is to put me straight, and obviously being a film set it might not bare any resemblance to the real thing that was used during the war. Thanks for sharing this gem 💎 of a film, it doesn’t matter if it is not realistic in any way, shape or form, it is just a good way to to escape daily life and too forget the trivial things that we encounter every day, I know it is violent and gory etc but it also shows that we can bond with others even under the most dire circumstances.

I've heard similar stories from vietnam combat vets regarding the nco talk with the LT. It's the same routine almost every day while out in the bush: eat, sleep, go on patrol, see some action or not, return to base, eat, sleep and then do it again the next day.....
Used to watch this movie with my cousin growing up, maybe 2-3 times a day, for at least a month. Rented out of Hollywood Video. Good times, simpler times before the internet took over.
I think the writer, producer and director got it. Thank you for your service to all that served reading this.

PL is one of the slew of nam movies such were released in the big to late 80s (rambo, full metal jacket, Coming home, Jacknife, ham hill) but this had the best overacting: 25:57, 37:36, 43:36, and 1:01:25

I've heard similar stories from vietnam combat vets regarding the nco talk with the LT. It's the same routine almost every day while out in the bush: eat, sleep, go on patrol, see some action or not, return to base, eat, sleep and then do it again the next day.....
Nice movies the American artist...we love it...and be proud the Pilipino Philippines sir it's a best movies

Not to be confused with 'Platoon' also an extremely good movie.
Didnt you find Platoon was too hung up on the story about Sgt Elias v Sgt Barnes
Totally forgot about this movie. I ended up enlisting in the Navy in 89.
Nice movie ❤. Respect to all Vietnam veterans God bless you all
Have this film somewhere . It was really good . So so many good men and boys lost there lifes when they shouldn't of been there .

Used to watch this movie with my cousin growing up, maybe 2-3 times a day, for at least a month. Rented out of Hollywood Video. Good times, simpler times before the internet took over.
