    Hey Sam, I'm afraid that I have to semi-disagree with your suggestion at 6:02 of deleting a frame mid-sequence (full time timelapse photog here). It's only ok if you don't have other elements that need continuity, such as the clouds you had in that Piccadilly Circus scene you used to demo that edit. Deleting that frame means a jump in the clouds, which damages the smooth feel of the timelapse. It would've been ok if you'd framed only the traffic and people, just not the clouds (I've done this many times with especially long-lens sequences of traffic, a missing frame is rarely noticeable).
    Next time you're shooting timelapse in London, and you might like to learn about motion-control timelapse (a speciality of mine), please do get in touch. Perhaps we can bring along fellow timelapse pros @londonviewpoints and @matjoez, good friends of mine :-)

I definitely struggle with video over photos for timelapses, I feel like the sky at night requires photos but I can use the S&Q mode on my Sony A7iv to get a quick timelapse (Even though it's not as quick as I would like). I think I might need to try using photos more often! Cheers 🍻🍻

    Great video, and realistic haha - also finding the gloomy weather tricky in the midlands for timelapses.
    How did you find the S5 II's exposure levelling for longer timelapses? (that's usually where you get flickering due to clouds/time of day changes impacting exposure per frame)
    If anyone does get flickering then LRTimelapse is great at smoothing it out + you can keyframe changes over time (though much more advanced)
    I was surprised how good GoPros are at timelapses as well, easy to mount, waterproof, really smooth exposure levelling + I can set it to wake up on it's own to capture a sunrise while I'm still in bed 😅

    Great video. I find 50 fps in timelapses to look smoother than 25 fps. Also a small slider adds a lot. You can slide to the sides, back and forth, on a tilt etc. A photo each second or so with people in it, and a long shutter to blur any movement🥳

  • @cannibalculture3016
    @cannibalculture3016 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great vid thanks. I've done a few motion time lapses using my gimbal to add even more movement. It really adds something extra. I would also suggest using a tall tripod in public places - mine is over 2 meters and I have to use a small step ladder to use it! But being above passers by who would overwise block the shot can save a lot of frustration.

    • @bothhemispheresphotography5031
      @bothhemispheresphotography5031 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @timbatchldn, I'm a London-based timelapse photog. I've used a tripod in piccadilly circus many times and in many other central london locations, usually with no problems (definitely need to stay close to your kit, if not nearly hands-on). But, yeah, there are _many_ places in London where a tripod will get you unwelcome encounters with security guards and police. I'm afraid it's just experience that allows me to shoot around London (top tip: a good clamp, with tripod head, will get around the "health and safety anti-tripod" rules). I did have a car drive by and grab £4000 worth of kit once (Gitzo tripod and camera), and I was only a couple feet away (bold as brass), so you gotta be sufficiently wary. But that was one incident in what has probably been 1000 sequences I've shot here in London (and the more shoots you do, the higher the probability of being targeted, so you gotta balance that out).
