I love how she said Milei’s plan won’t work but has no criticism of the parties that created the mess and who are not able to fix it right now. She wants the same parties to continue the drive forward into more failure.

Argentinos already use dollars, whenever they can. They were doing that when I last visited in 2016 and 2017. Inflation is a policy, not an accident! It was 30% when I was there, and I was told to spend all my pesos. The government is horribly over-regulated, and over-taxed. Note that Ecuador and Panama already are dollarized. Argentinos are great people, my favorites in South America, they can usually speak three languages and are some of the nicest folks I've met anywhere. All Milei has to do is make it easy for other peoples to come there and invest, and they'll get plenty of takers, I would move there too! Like nearly all people, they do not deserve their awful government---which they've had from the 1950's or so. Best wishes to Argentina!

The origin of Argentina's economic problem has to do with fiscal policy. Public accounts in Argentina are a mess. Nobody really knows the size of the public deficit. Argentina finances its fiscal deficits by issuing currency. This is the origin of inflation. There is also a certain currency witchcraft...Which demonstrates enormous institutional fragility. Argentina does not have a real Central Bank, it does not have a monetary or fiscal anchor.

Though there's a concern he might turn into a populist leader if he wins. On the other hand, Bullrich often criticizes Milei's proposals, yet she sometimes ends up embracing similar ideas, such as the vouchers. However, her communication skills and leadership abilities appear to need improvement. As for the "pancake", it's perhaps best to avoid delving into that topic... Just an observation, but when asked about what specific policies led Argentina to its current crises, the correspondent (Gandara) was not able to offer a specific answer outside of the fiscal deficit and I think that is emblematic of why Argentina is in its situation. No one seems to know the root causes of the issues. No one can give specific answers about the Argentinian deficit. I think the biggest thing Argentina has to learn to do is stop constantly printing money in order to service its debts or programs when they’re in shortfall. I’m usually against austerity spending, but in Argentina’s case with rapid, crippling inflation, they have to pick the lesser of two destructive policies. Either keep printing and then tank the economy, or short term austerity with less printing currency which also sucks for the average Argentinian, but will at least set the stage for rebuilding the value of their currency. Either way, the average Argentinian is going to suffer first.

In the USA, there were crises in 1907, 1929, 1987, 2008 (the New Deal kept crises from happening between 1929 and 1987). There seems to be comments about people not explaining the circumstances. I was in Buenos Aires about a year ago and our guide informed us, as a retiree (but still needing to work to survive) that the government had just announced an increase in her pension benefits....three kilos of meat per person. Yes, meat. Well, I guess it's high-quality Argentinian beef, maybe.
Some, but not all, salient points.
Politics/Culture: Past dictatorships. Past and current corruption.
Debt: By the end of 2019, Argentina owed about US$323 billion of federal sovereign debt to, among others, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Paris Club and private bondholders. It has defaulted three times since 2001.
Budget: Argentina hasn't balanced its budget since 2008. There's a huge difference between, say, the US not balancing its budget and Argentina not doing so.
GDP has swung wildly over the decades.
Controls: No meaningful measure have been taken to control inflation, none seem readily identifiable other than to stop borrowing, push for more exports, lure business into the country.
Argentina seems like a lovely country. It'll take some strong will, dedication, belt tightening to turn anything around.

You mean BRICS? Idk of any other proposed currencies, but not all SA countries are in members, and even BRICS has no plan to even *begin* implementing one.
Even the BRICS development bank in China (forgot its name) is backed with USD. Nobody is even *kinda sorta* close to escaping dollarization.
