First time I rode that trail I saw a bear and her cub. I immediately started pedaling as fast as I could while looking behind me to make sure I wasn't being chased downhill. I was riding it blind but also mobbing. The adrenaline level was insane!
Big bear is so "appreciation station" Almost did not click on this one. When you or Alan have Big Bear in the title my eyes gloss over. Great spot! Thanks for sharing.
production note: that 3-d satellite photo overview around 1:25 is frigging awesome. So helpful, gives such a cool overview of the situation, a must-have feature for future vidoes! If I had seen something like that for Santiago before going there the first time, it really would have saved a lot of confusion about the overall lay of the land, and I was already using Trailforks AND your trail guide! cheers
Thanks for bringing us back to an old-fashioned up & back trail. I, too, have been hitting the parks hard. Hit Summit, Skypark then 2 days in Mammoth all in one week. It was heaven, but I do still love a good natural trail. 😎
I've ridden Hanna Flat from the campground to the start of Grays Peak, but I haven't got around to combining them yet. My favorite stuff in Big Bear is all outside Summit, (Though taking beginners up the chairlift to do Skyline/Fern/Bristlecone or Skyline/ClubView/Bristlecone is also a favorite)
I was just up in Big Bear this weekend went to snow Summit wish I knew about this trail though looks fun .I’m going to check it out I go up there all the time . 👍
Just stumbled across your channel and might I say did I enjoy that video. You make rides look and sound like fun haha. Definitely going to check out this trail! Keep em vids coming sir! I’m also from So Cal if you ever want a bud to ride with 🤙🏻
Next time your up in Fawnskin, hit up Hanna Flats trail to Greys Peak. A bit more paved/fireroad climb at the beginning but Hanna Flats is good across the top then you get to finish with the Greys climb and descent.
Pineknot Trail, on the other side of the lake, is a similar climb but much more shady. It also connects to Skyline Trail at the top so you can make a loop if you want to.
"I Don't Want A Pickle Just Wanna Ride My Motorsickle And I Don't Wanna Die Just Wanna Ride My Motorcy.............................cle" The Motorcycle Song 1967 Arlo Guthrie LOL very nice, I like it! Cool to discover the other side of the lake. Oh yeah, you appear to have a plethora of distinct dialects, or was that suppose to be just one? 😂 Great vid, thanks for the uploads.👍🏼
Super nice, I will down there in August staying the oak knoll lodge, might consider this trail depending on the time I have. Have you road the loop that is close to the lodge? On MTB project it’s called 1E01, climbing up, and descending Cabin 89. Tulip lane turns into mill creek road and the trail head is right there I got a super deal at the lodge by mentioning your channel.
That's great Sean! Wyatt is a cool guy and he will take care of you. Just let him know what you need. I have climbed up that way but to Skyline. I have not come down Cabin 89 though. Oak Knoll is in a perfect spot for that.
Your camera work has improved 10 fold. Thanks for sharing all the trails you ride in SO Cal. Do you ever ride the trails in Santa Barbara County? We have some epic trails . Cheers
Next time take Rim of the World dirt road from thefire station or park at the other lot where u come down at the end. Ride up To Hana Flat Campground go in thats on the left go all the way to camp sites 50 you will see the trail on your right take that up then after a while it will descend into a great single track to the road that leads to Greys peak . I have it on Strava check it out.
Sick video dude! I will be back to check out some more of your videos! Also, I just started to post on my channel after 3 years and it would be so sick if you could check it out!

Oh wow! That's like my worst nightmare.
I know you ride alone, but be prepared
Guns don't kill people, bears do..

😉👊
The fact that you started the video with a 60fps clip... 😎. Keep it up! Thanks for the video.
Haha you don't like the 24fps?
@@TheOutsiderMTB It depends... if I say not so much are you going to ban me from your channel? 😂
@@tomarkidh Never! 😁

Our sense of humor is so heavily aligned. give em the stick DONT GIVE EM THE STICK.

Nice Teddy - I use to watch these for hours. Haha
Great video. I did a grays peak loop via hanna flats trail. Nice and scenic.
Nice one! I've done that one too. From the campground.
Needed this. Have had this trail on my list but haven't hit it yet. Good old Outsider!
Ha get at it! Nice change up in the mountains on this one.
Great views the whole time. Gotta love them strateetgeery rides 🤙
Back to old school 👍
You got that right!
Just did this…and…that climb was nasty 😂. Great workout!
Agreed!
Another great video. I love he bike park videos but this keeps it real for us who have to ride open trails. Thanks Outsider MTB
You bet!
Rode this trail as a loop, from the fire station took the road behind it and started my decent at the campground. Very nice trail 👍
Good stuff! Hannah Flats.
Rode this trail in mid July cause I camped out in big bear and it was the closest trail.. so beautiful up there amazing trail
Agreed!
Love your edits. Great option for the shoulder seasons when the bike park isn't open too.
Definitely! Thanks Amy!

Nice - yeah i've done the full loop before. Hannah Flats is very XC, but fun.
Great edit, as always. but i really miss your old appreciation station sound/song snippet :)
This is the old one. The first one. I'm going to switch them around though so don't worry. ☺️
I was just up in Big Bear this weekend went to snow Summit wish I knew about this trail though looks fun .I’m going to check it out I go up there all the time . 👍
Have fun! It's a great addition.

I think I've done that one before. Good stuff Nathan!
Nice!!! Still bike hunting. Gonna get the 2021 fuel ex5 when they start hitting shops. Already got my gear LOL.
Nice Mars!
Nice trail, reminds me of the Laguna Mountain Trails.
Thanks Ray
Great vid man, love the southern twang at the end lol
Glad you enjoyed - haha i need to work on it a bit. 😉
I get what you're saying. I needed a break from the lifts too so I took Skyline down and back up!
Nice I love that option. Going to do that one soon too Alex!
Pork chop sandwiches! I absolutely love those GI Joe voice overs. Tell me Billy does your mother still like to hangout in dockside bars. Haha
Hahahah - great one.
“You going up or down? Ok bye 👋 “ 😂
Haha yup dat me. 🤷🏻♂️😎
Dude please pick a day and make a group and show us that trail , you got are support ... Come on next weekend .
Group rides are about to go down on Patreon. Check it out! 😉
Loved the editing on this one! Especially some avain magic at 5:48. Unrelated to this trail . . . What'd you think of Car Wreck?
Thanks Adam - Car Wreck has to step sections, but the rest id like Rock It. Not as tough as I remember years ago. Stay tuned!

Thanks! I plan to soon Luke!
What song was used and the beginning of your climb? 03:26
I loaded it from Epidemic - not sure where you'd be able to get it though.
Yea, I don't like climbs either but that was a beautiful way up!
It really is! Thanks!
Hahaha the Fensler films Gi Joe Dubs too funny.

Yup I’ve done that one before. Solid loop!
"Likes to get deeper..." That's what he said!
Haha
Hey Tony! You gonna be up in Big Bear or Arrowhead this weekend? Visiting from Lake Tahoe and would be cool to take a few runs with you!
Not sure yet but enjoy!!!!
How would you rate this climb in comparison to Willow and Barham? Difficult or more manageable?
It's single track so more tech and longer than Willow.
Here's the strava route for this ride + bonus trails PCT, Hanna Flats and uphill on Cougar Crest www.strava.com/routes/2751262840513071710
Would say this would be better served on plus tires due to the amount of sand?
Very sandy for sure. I've got 2.5s right now.
@@TheOutsiderMTB Good to know, thank you. I have 2.8 on my ht but recently found a deal on a set of 29 wheels with Maxxis 2.3 XC tires.
My favorite trail!
Nice Tom!
Like those gloves! 👍🏻
Me too!
Ok..this is a one cool trail..I like it..
👍
Were you riding on Skyline/Ferns this past week? I thought I saw you , but maybe I was hallucinating from the altitude!
Haha I was driving around up there I’m my truck with Pip and my wife.
The Outsider MTB It probably was you then! Grays Peak is a really nice ride. I did it a few years back and it’s a good change from the park.
@@EricHollanderAcu Haha small world.nAnd totally agree.
I'm not sure, but for others info, doesn't this place require parking passes and other stuff? Gr8 vid 🤘
Now where I parked. Thanks!
Body message machine, go!
Haha so good.
all jointed up for this edit... lol...
the end.. LOL
😉
Is there bears you can run into?.
They're out there, but I didn't see any.
Nice dude 🤙🍻
Thanks! 😁
Did he say "headed into foreskin?"
HA! 😉
Was the best kept secret 😭😭😭
Nah it’s a public trail system.

Good stuff Caden!
Can't you just focus on mountain biking and the beauty of the trail without bringing politics into the video? Pathetic...
What politics? I use sound bytes all the time. Lighten up.
Welp...not anymore lmao
Well, not really a SECRET - just more unknown to most.
