You should go up to glass butte Oregon we went up a few years back and got a ton of every type of obsidian before the limit was intoduced. We found a 8 ft home and people were pulling out boulders with their trucks lol
We haven't done Red Top or Hansen. Finally did Saddle Mountain recently. Just funny considering we've been rockhounding a while now. That blue amethyst piece is pretty cool!
About 10 yrs ago I was up there with a friend, his dad, and his son. The weather started to turn quick and by the time we decided to head down it was way too late! It hailed quarter size balls down on us and damn it hurt! We tried to protect our heads by putting our packs over them. By the time we got to that part of the trail where you have to go over that small rocky slide area the hail was 2 foot deep there, no lie! Have to say first time I was ever scared of weather in the Wilds. When we got to the parking lot, a guy's pick up truck bed was full up all the way with hail stones! That's one crazy place weather wise!
It came in so quick. I almost left the umbrella in the car but I grabbed it for Mac so he wouldn't get to hot from the sun. It kept us dry while I waited it out.
This is the time to dig right after the thaw and all the Rain. Do you ever go to first Creek? It's a easy walk as well, I think more people go to red top and i know there's more then just that one spot on red top. It's just so full of rotted geodes although on the westside of red top I found some nice not rotted Geodes. Keep up the great videos. ⛏

What date was this trip? Thinking about going up in the next couple weekends. Curious as to how the road conditions are up to the trailhead. Hearing alot that the roads are covered in snow 2.5 to 3 miles from the TH. Love all the content, keep it up man.

Storms are crazy when you're up in the mountains. This video gave me flashbacks. Damn...
I didn't even want to go to the car, the trail is right along the ridge, I just hunkered down and waited for it to pass!
