In todays episode of "The Retro Life" we have some serious memories unlocked! We score a ton of 80s/90s gold with a pile of Mcdonalds happy meal toy display pieces. These would have been in the lobby of Mcdonalds restaurants for kids to see what toys were in happy meals at the time. We have Nickelodeon, Hook, ET and more in this episode. Im seriously shook that we get to add these to the collection! Always on the hunt for retro games, vintage toys and 80s / 90s nostalgia! Retro, I went to my local antique store (it’s considered the biggest in Michigan) and SO much ET (even a vhs store display) and retro TMNT stuff. It would be so cool to show you everything they have because lots of ET things I noticed you don’t have and TNMT stuff I don’t see you have.

I effing remember that Hook McDonald's tie-in and the display! I was obsessed with the movie when it came out, my family saw it in theaters...just the perfect nostalgic time. Haven't thought about the McDeez/Hook stuff in years...the memories flooded back. Thanks, @Retro Rick

Yeah I ended up just biting the bullet and going with a modern one that's kinda neat. Google bullet bill trash can. It's a standard walmart trash can with like a uh tilty thing for the top? Anyway looks like a well bullet. Then ebay/etsy/etc.. has decals that you put on the side of it. Boom isnta bullet bill trash can lol. Note: this only works if your into nintendo/mario sorry sega fans =P lol

The hook transparent picture is a translight, would have been on the drive thru or In store against the menu lights to promote the new happy meal promotion. Also referred to as POP. Vintage now as most stores have digital translights. It’s been stored amazingly as there prone to cracking. Each promotion the lights were changed. Hope it helps!
I had a ninja turtle trash can growing up. That thing got beat all to hell and became trash itself at some point. Good luck finding one. Probably harder to find than a Turbo Man doll on Christmas Eve.

Nice score! Those sign displays that the light shines through are called "translites," if you ever want to look into which ones were available. A lot of different fastfood places and stores use them. They're pretty popular with collectors, especially the ones from licensed properties. I was lucky enough once to hit a collectibles show where Ronald McDonald House set up a booth and sold off a ton of their vintage displays cheap. Cool retro store displays and helping a worthy cause. Best of both worlds. :)

The Wile E Coyote stuffed animal is probably from a now defunct Warner Bros mall store. I have that one when they were closing around early 2000s.
14:21 OMG! Wizard Magazine! I have such fond memories of that Magazine and ToyFare Magazine that I'm actually going for a complete collection of both. For those who are unaware, Wizard Magazine was like the Nintendo Power of the comics, and action figure collecting/fan scenes. Now, ToyFare has an interesting history as it was an off-shoot of the former magazine, and just shows action figures. However, that specific magazine is where Robot Chicken got its start but under the name Twisted ToyFare Theater.

Awesome score!! My favorite definitely has to be the Nickelodeon McDonald's toy display. Nickelodeon was gold back then! No matter what time off the day it was there was always something good on. Kind of like when MTV actually played music videos 🤣😂

Back in the day the mcdonalds toys used to be way better than they are today, ordered my Daughter one recently and it was just a bunch of card to cut out a "toy" ..fit for the recycle bin for sure !

That "gundom" lol, was actually the Power Rangers Ninja Storm Megazord from 2003. The figures for the classic Rangers have the year prior to the shows released.

Another Awesome Retro Video. So much neat stuff. Honestly out of all of the Nostalgia that you got from the viewer I think my favorite was the E.T. Promo from McDonald's. I liked the movie but wasn't big on the merchandising. Great stuff!

Love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 movie playing at the beginning. Plus $150 is insane for all that awesomeness. Best McDonald's toys are a tie between the boats your happy meal came in from 1983, and the happy meal buckets.

I HIGHLY suggest playing Hook on SEGA CD. The music and graphics are brilliance, also recommend Batman Returns as well for the SEGA CD. Top stuff. Also Such an awesome haul. Good lookin out for the viewer for you and the store.

Not totally sure, but the kinda see through posters are called “marquees”. At least they were when I worked at a movie theater. Amazingly cool. ET happy meal prices busted me up. Anyway, nice pick ups Rick!
You'll typically find them listed on eBay and such as "lightbox" posters, also. As well as their respective fixtures.

The translucent McDonald's menu boards are called translites.

That timex case was probably from the 60-70s as in the early 80s when I was a kid the pharmacy in my neighborhood had one and I got to pick out my first watch from and when I got it cleaned it was from 63 instead of 83 like I thought.
Retro Rick always coming with th🔥🔥🔥. Always bringing home the gems. In back of retro Ricks car it looked like Santa sled. I always enjoy being taken on the journey of nostalgia and great memories.
