Caruso was certainly a temperamental artist and was applauded for it. She alone reinvented Opera, was hated by the Italians because she was Greek and occupied like a great warrior Scala. Eventually, the Italiano surrender to her so great was her talent.

Regardless of what country she was singing in she was deeply appreciated by all. La Scala is not the Mecca of Opera. Each country has a great Opera Houses and great opera aficionados. I suppose you're right. Look at Nilsson, Sutherland, Tebaldi and Price. They all became company players for the benefit of the MET. They were all happy to Tour and help raise funds for the company.

However it´s history now and though often in bad sound quality we have many live performances on record as a testament to her unrivalled artistic genius.

She is still the most "devastating" genius appeared on scenes. Devastating above all for all her contemporaries. She destroyed the old and wrong imposing the right and best way to make music singing.
