    What an interesting, thoughtful, and articulate musician. Fabulous player goes without saying. I'm on the verge of ordering a Silver Sky, and I'm soaking up every word and demo I can pour into my head. And I completely relate to the snatched zombie look he gets, once he starts digging what he's playing and hearing!

    Honestly, it sounds like you've managed to get both strat and tele tone in a single guitar. To me, that seems like a smart tool for a seasoned guitarist who's looking for both in a single axe. People can hate all they want, but this seems like INTELLIGENCE to me. I'm standing with your Transition over to PRS.

    I truthfully had no interest in owning a PRS. When the Silver Sky came out I was really disappointed with PRS. Then one day last year a friend who had just purchased a McCarty 594 let me play his guitar. I was bit big time. I now own 4 PRS electric guitars and own a Silver Sky with the DGT next in my sights.
    This video served two things for me; understanding why John chose to move away from Fender (not what I had originally thought) and that he did not have ill will or feelings towards Fender. His explanation of the design was very interesting. Well worth the time to watch 👍🏼

    Sounds and looks beautiful!!
    People don't realize how hard it is to improve on a classic but yet look pleasing and functional.
    PRS and John did a nice job with design refinements.
    There are a lot of ugly instruments being made because they can't create anything that's going be functional as an instrument and breakaway from the classic shapes.

      @CentaurusRelax314 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      qbica I respectfully disagree. As a designer, I know that that is part of the challenge. Would you make the same argument about a screenplay or a book or a song? Yes, it's difficult to be original. And that's why, when a company creates something original and then invests millions of dollars and thousands of hours of work for 50 years to develop, refine, promote, manufacture, and distribute that product-sweat and financial equity-it seems a violation to me to have that work leveraged in an instant by someone else. But, hey, the guitar industry doesn't operate like most of the rest of the world, with regard to IP. Sadly for some. Fortunately for many.

    There’s nothing wrong with what you and Paul did creating your new guitar. Starting with this video instead of waiting two weeks and setting the internet on fire may have been a better choice. If it has Paul’s name on it, it’s a great guitar. You got to live out an American dream by taking a vision and creating a functioning piece of art many people can afford.

    Awesome playing!Guitar sounds and looks great!Fender tried to take the strat to the future with the Strat plus in the late 80s.Jeff Beck took his career to another level with a guitar based on that model.His signature model is the only model left with some strat plus ideas in Fender catalog I think.Guitarplayers are conservative.

    For those who don't know this guitar (minus it's refinements) was originally release about 15 years ago as an SE model and it was a great model then. It only sold for about $800 then. I don't really hear a lot of difference in this particular and the original model at least not for the $2000 plus price tag.

    I've honestly never listened to your playing until now. I have read comments by you that I thought were hilarious. I've seen you in random interviews and thought that you seemed like a cool guy.
    Your playing...today on this guitar just made me feel like you get it. You just get it! It's interesting to see someone who has their own vocabulary in today's world of guitars. You speak the languages of others but definitely have your own. I'm not a start guy. I'm not a PRS guy, but I get it too. I really understand what you're saying when you play. Down the line I'll probably grab one of these. You're saying everything with this model.
    Killer job! Kudos to you and Paul for delivering an instrument that can speak many languages.

    I totally get it! It's beautiful, it sounds amazing, and it's nicely priced compared to what you'd get with a similarly tricked out Fender Custom Shop.
    It's crazy; I've been defending this guitar and PRS (and even John himself) since folks started bashing the Silver Sky.
    I play an '07 Fender American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster.
    And I would love to (someday, somehow) get one of these beautiful Silver Sky guitars.
    The devil is in the details, and oh man does this guitar have a ton of details!
    This particular video is fantastic. It addresses all those intricate and tiny details. I totally "get" the "why" of every aspect. It just makes so much sense. I was grinning and saying "Yes!" when John talked about the tone knobs and the eliminated frequencies. I completely understand, as I see the exact same issue with the Stratocaster I play daily.
    It has a medium C neck with a 9.5 inch neck radius. It's the best neck I've ever played, and one of the reasons why it's my go-to guitar.

    Not to worry John. The internet buzz and negativity online about the guitar is just what the world has become. True personalities and people that appreciate guitars know the whats and whys of your new guitar. I know the guitar is a great tool being familiar with the PRS brand. Appointments are gonna be spot on and quality will be 2nd to none. I love all my guitars. Fenders, Suhr, PRS, Gibson, Tom Anderson. It's like having multiple girlfriends. I'm on team Mayer, obviously. Because we share the Sur-name. And the passion....

    I’ve been critical of the price, but most of us understand the way the endorser is paid is in that price. Going all the way back to Les Paul who received a portion of each guitar sold. That’s the way it works. However, John probably sold a bunch with this video.

    Just the advice of a nobody guitar hobbyist here. I'd keep the specs, but change the face to give it more of a PRS look and vibe. Basically, I'd lose the strat style pickguard and replace it with a flame maple veneer as the face of the guitar in order to give it that PRS vibe. The fact that it has strat-like specs is fine, and given that it's a PRS I'm sure it's extremely well made. But it's not-quite exact Fender-ish aesthetic look makes it look like a cheap strat copy that just happens to cost $2500. Replacing the generic strat-style white pickguard with a thin flame maple cap or even a veneer finished off with a selection of translucent burst finishes would make it look so much more classy.

    Is John trying to tell me he wouldn't feel the difference between a 7.25 radius and 12 radius? I don't believe that for a second

    • @JRCGuitarist
      @JRCGuitarist 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jochen D'hondt I’m sure there is likely a difference, even though John has large hands so this may possibly be why he doesn’t notice the difference much. But I can say that I have picked up guitars with different radius’s and while the differences felt slight, I was more concerned with the fact that it felt good. I don’t know much about radius’s either. So, I can relate to him. What he says here is not that there isn’t a difference in feel in general, but that he doesn’t feel a difference. I don’t think we can say what anyone else feels in this case, especially if he doesn’t think about it. This is likely why he doesn’t notice. He also says that he understands if some people don’t like the feel of certain radius’s, but those who make choices simply because it’s a thing. Then he says he’s tried out guitars of varying radius’s and they all felt great to him.
      When I try out guitars at a shop, certain ones don’t feel as good as others, but have the same radius, which is interesting, could be shape. I’ve noticed that the shape of the fretboard may be where I feel a difference more. I think Gibson uses more of a 12” radius. I recently picked up a Gibson ES-335 and played it for the first time. I was amazed at how smooth it felt. But I didn’t notice a size difference between that guitar and my 9.50 radius. I just noticed that I felt a connection as soon as I started playing. The last 12” radius guitar I had a D shape. Didn’t like it. This one, I don’t think it was a D shape.
      As to whether someone would notice a jump from 7.25” radius, there are people who say they only feel a slight difference. Others will feel more of difference depending the size of their hands I would guess. 12” radius is supposed to be better for people with smaller hands according to some.

    • @jochendhondt866
      @jochendhondt866 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i agree 100% that feel is way more important than radius numbers, but in my personal experience i do see a relation between the radius and how it feels for me.

    • @JRCGuitarist
      @JRCGuitarist 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jochen D'hondt That’s makes sense, often times people who feel a difference depends on their hands size. I’ve asked a question in a forum about what radius would work best for small hands, most people said 12”. Since, I’ve felt a 12” and 9.50”. I don’t notice a difference. Maybe if I jumped from 7.25 to 12”, I’ll feel it. I think the shape of the guitar is likely a factor in whether someone can feel the radius. I think D shape guitars are uncomfortable compared to C Shape. I think the ES-335 was a C shape neck. That’s probably why it didn’t feel very different to the 9.50”.

    • @BluesGuitarSnacks
      @BluesGuitarSnacks 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jochen D'hondt I liked his comments about that. I've been saying for years that I'm a "thin neck" player. You know, "thin = fast and easy, thick = slow and difficult". 60s necks on Gibsons etc.
      But I very recently tried an '05 Custom Classic Telecaster that I found extremely easy to play.. and whaddya know? "Son of a gun"...big C neck! I bought it straight away.

    In fairness, I want to buy any guitar you said was good. Any guitar shit guitar in your hands would sound good. Marketing and hero worshipping

    1. Would people be upset if Fender made a Les Paul and made the claim that it was "the future of the classic design"?
    2. Would people be upset if Gibson made a Telecaster and made the claim that it was 'the future of the classic design"?
    3. With a costlier process and more expensive woods (Mahogany/figured maple top-mahogany SET neck) The PRS S2 is
    $1499.00
    4. The "SKY" is much less complicated to make (bolt on neck) and cheaper Alder wood. Hardware prices would equal out.
    The price is $2300.00. Somebody explain why there is an $800.00 difference in price? A sculpted lower bought (that is
    programmed into a CNC machine) and a 3+3 headstock adds $800.00 to the cost???????????
    5. John you said in your "rosie" video that you got in touch with Chris Flemming at Fender to get him to make it for you. Why are you saying in this video you couldn't really get in touch with anybody at Fender you didn't really know who to talk to? Explain how a person can have a Fender Signature guitar and not know who to get in touch with about an idea?
