This is the best series!! I always get told “o this fish is disgusting” but really it’s all about the cook and the preparation. But yes it could just be bad tasting of course
Shot my first eel today.. Here in Hawaii we have plenty, I got bit by one yesterday while cleaning a fish I shot. Eel is a pain to clean but delicious and plentiful
I think you could skin the eel like you would a burbot or a rabbit. Just make a gentle cut around the neck, and after that with a pliers pull the skin off like a sock.
Looks pretty good, I’ll have to try one as they are everywhere. Can you do red mowwie, they are very polarising. I think they taste awful but may I can’t cook?
Thanks, yeah they definitely are and ill be eating again for sure. Man i love Red Mowie i just dont shoot them anymore as i think they get smashed, are you bleeding it as soon as you shoot it?
@@WetMammal I’ll usually stone them with the shot. Then bleed and gut them whilst they are on the spear. I have cooked them several different ways and they just go all mushy and taste a bit sickly to me. My mates enjoy them though? Maybe I need to put them on ice? I usually eat them straight after shooting them.
Hey its vort the kid from the spearfishing meeting thanks for the merch once again next time on the undesirables you should try blind shark ive always thought of shooting one but ive never commited
Thats a wicked video man, Any chance you're looking at Sea Urchin? They're pretty invasive, all over the place and apparently the sushi goes for $45 a pop
Breaded pan fried fish is the best, almost any fish prepared this way is good, wouldn’t expect that after moray eel, it just has aura “I’m not worth it” , if you know what I mean, but no, apparently it’s great when someone else filets it for you🤣. My fav of your series, you must try Wrasse next time you are in UK. About eating fish raw, not my cup of tea, a specially after finding worms in Atlantic Cod meet☹️
Hahahahahahah had to watch this one. You're mad keen eating one of these 🤣 no reason it won't be tasty tho. I learned how to deal with eels from my father in law. Start by hanging them or rub in salt then use 'paper towels' to get rid of all the slime. Then stick the head of the eel through the head of a nail stuck in a piece of wood so it's easier to fillet. Then either cook it with bones in or use debone pliers and pull out the pin bones
@@WetMammal practice is the best way to learn. Lots of suggestions here for you mate, mine is flutemouth. I know this is used for sashimi, thinking of trying it out myself. Also called cornetfish
@@Jacedives so shot and in the water with me as i made my way out 20mins. Walk to car 5mins On ice drive home 40 mins On ice whilst i set up camera gear take pics and have a shower 50 mins Start recording
@@WetMammal I wonder if curling on the spear stage is them going into rigor mortis, so its an accelerated state. By the time you got it home the muscles just had not relaxed yet. Very strange!

Its hard to put into words but i literally just focus on something else and they arent bad the more you focus on them the worse they get i reckon

Awesome thank you for sticking around, hope you are learning a thing or two :)
@@WetMammal Its really satisfying to watch you catch stuff. Unfortunatly I have very little access to seafood since Im from hungary
Awesome, ahh sorry to hear that i wonder if you can spearfish in lakes or rivers there?
can you do the herring cale as your next fish?
Leave it with me
@@WetMammal There’s heaps around South Maroubra and local reefs. They love to swim around the sea grass and weeds!

Hey mate. Use the way of Japanese BBQ to cook it, which can lift the score to 9/10
checked the channel for the kelpfish video but it dont exist yet.
The rock cale is done, the kelp cale is yet to be done 🤣
It's crazy that it knows to bite you and where your hand is even when long dead
Absolutely the muscle memory is insane
the moorays are pretty smart and usually arent aggressive when moving about that or im thinking another mooray
Most fish are pretty chewy when fresh though, right?
Yeah absolutely but this had been on ice for about 2 hours so it should have been alright perhaps it needed a bit longer
@@WetMammal I've heard sash is aged a few days at least
What coating did you use?
A Kentucky Fried Homemade mix, basically something ive perfected over the years that tastes almost identical to KFC
@@WetMammal Share your secrets, looks delicious!!!!!
Cool
Considering you’ve never filleted a moray before not surprising it was difficult Sam but in all great job 👍🏼
Thanks man, i would love to go at it again with a bit more knowledge on it

in asia and europe they eat freashwater eels
Yeah in many places around the world Moray are eaten too
Been looking forward to this one ☝️
I would of smoked it and prob would of been a lot less work too
Im smoking the next one for sureee
In the Philippines we cook it adobo style yumm
I bet that would be incredible… i miss abodo pork soo much
Whats your 7 herbs and spices recipe? I’ll give it a crack.
Paprika, salt, pepper, cumin, tumeric, garlic, mixed herbs, lemon and herb mix flour and 1 secret ingredient haha
Demonic pretzel for sure
I still cant process how perfect the knot is
Looks like a pain to deal with in the water and out of the water. The pricks have bitten me that many times going for lobsters!

Thanks man, i reckon, the next way i try it is smoked though hmmmmm
@@WetMammal yup i think thats how our maori bros do it over in aotea
That eel head 😂
Bahaha
Nail the tail to a log of wood and use pliers and sharp knife to fillet and after all that effort give the fillet to the neighbors cat!
Hahahhaa
I wish you showed the 2nd mouth
Sorry man
Holy shit this thing is scary
Gotta clean it w salt to take the slime off
Top tip right there, I’ll definitely be using salt on the next one 🤙🏼
@@WetMammal I think fresh water eel would be more worth the effort than Moray😂
Gonna have to give it a crack, had a decent sized one demolish a lobster I was targeting
Let me know how you go. Honestly if you can get past the filleting stage you are laughing 🤙🏼
It's not Good. It's DELICIOUS. it's not a fish at all. It's Eel and Moray Eels are Delicious when prepared correctly.
