    In this video we installed the flue pipe and roof exit kit for the cubic mini stove.
    We found out after the install that our clearance to the ceiling is off and the shelf we installed was too close, so we'll be installing sheet metal to make it safe. I had a hard time finding the clearance requirements on their site so here they are:
    Clearances required are 20” in all directions lateral to the stove unless installed with one of our wall mounts. If no shielding is present then you need to provide 20” clearance to combustibles. A 30” Clearances applies to the top of the stove to the surface above. Under the stove should also be shielded and an air gap should be provided.

    I was screaming PLUMB BOB!!!!

    • @ColaVentures
      @ColaVentures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lol! :) Usually that would work and it probably would have worked but the bus ins't quite level so a plumb bob would have given me a bit of a wonky line. But its all a little wonky in the bus regardless.

    If you want to put a hole in the centre,make a cardboard template to fit into the top of the stove with the centre dot already in place then use a plumb line from the roof.

    Finding the center on the stove for the pipes to cut through the ceiling . Use the oldest tool in the world the plumbob locate dead center of the pipe at the stove by holding the string end On the ceiling and let it find center of the stove pipe center on the stove by moving The string held to the ceiling till it hits dead center then pencil mark the ceiling exact center for your circular cut . No levels needed no measuring tape needed to find center. You can use any weight Of appropriate size to tie one end of the string making sure the weight hangs center of the string . Or to simplify matters if you don’t have a store-bought plumbob you can simply use a chalk line box Holding the string on the ceiling while the chalk line box fines dead center

    To find the centre point on the ceiling, while you were doing it I thought, plum bob would work good

    Just installed the stove today. Needed a reminder on the exact process for the chimney install I'm doing tomorrow. Good video. Got what I needed from you. I'm in northern Alberta and it's late October. Already below 0c most of the days. A few hours of +2c or +3c during the afternoon. Its gonna be a problem with the silicone but I'm hoping with the bit of above 0c temps and heat from the chimney it will cure. Winter came earlier then usual this year. Already had a bit of snow. Caught us off guard.

    In the UK we use a plumb bob, string and weight hold it over the outlet and move it across the ceiling until it is plum then mark the outlet,

    I am having the same problem with the flue guard coming out an inch maybe and barely being able to drill a 3.5" radius around the center dot. The middle of the pipe is only 3" away from the guard. They probaby should have made that back mount come out further.

    Are you getting any water coming down the inside of the pipe and out onto the top of the stove? I did the same exact install with the same roof cap and it seems like water finds it's way to the inside of the inner pipe.

    • @ColaVentures
      @ColaVentures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We actually do get a bit that comes down on top of the stove. I'm thinking the wind blows rain up into the pipe and then it comes down and leaks out. I was thinking maybe a better cap for the stove pipe or some high temp silicon around the base of the pipe and then squeezing it in. I haven't gotten around to it since it is only a minor issue and we just wipe it up.

    • @MrJlough8788
      @MrJlough8788 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ColaVentures if you happen to source a better cap, let me know where you find one! Our stove is in a tiny cabin that is rarely used so the water really pools up and rusts the top of the stove.

    How do you protect the roof from the flue pipe

  • @jessejules2092
    @jessejules2092 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for the video. I have one question. Just wondering, does the boot seal thoroughly at the point of opening against the pipe so that rain doesn't come in, or does there need to be heat resistant silicone added here as well to create no possibility of leakage?

    • @ColaVentures
      @ColaVentures  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I added a dab of silicon between the pipe and the boot just to be safe.

    • @carl8568
      @carl8568 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sika roofing silicone should be ok if you have it on hand. The stuff I have is rated to 150°C which a double or triple skin flue should not be reaching.

  • @engchoontan8483
    @engchoontan8483 ปีที่แล้ว

    For people with leaky roof, using idea from this video...
    = rubber plunger, accordian-type rubber plunger
    = for smaller holes
    Additionally...
    Metal-Pipe
    = metal "sheet" 2-inches, roll around metal pipe, weld top, flow welding for looks, TIG, MIG, (Plasma-Cutter)
    = cascade waterfall-effect is have for under that
    Whenever and wherever need waterfall Cascading effect, ... build effect.
    Roof build annulus wall of 2-inch high around pipe
    = GRP mesh a skirting to sit on 2-inch(water flow height) wall and drip outside. Determine if air seal is needed before dumping-stuff on the mesh..,

      Usual is soil-clay with green-slimy water-moss(water repellent)

    Why does everyone put the stoves up so high? They should sit low to the floors shouldn't they? Wanna warm yr lowest points especially inside RVs or busses etc??? Everything I'm watching peeps have these sitting way up off the floor. Why?

    • @cola-creative
      @cola-creative 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m guessing it’s because you have to pay for the pipe per length and to save floor space.

    What’s the distance from the top of the fireplace to the ceiling? Does the ceiling get hot? I just ordered a grizzly stove and was concerned about the heat so I made a heat shield above the stove.

    • @ColaVentures
      @ColaVentures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are supposed to be 30in from the ceiling and ours is about 28in but wee haven't noticed any heat on ours but a heat shield is a good idea. They do have good info on their site about clearances.

    • @SuperChriscunningham

    i have to install one this spring on my shortbus. I'm a bit scared of the mangling involved on that metal flange on the rubber boot outside. I feel like maybe the design needs a slightly heavier gauge so it doesn't wrinkle up like tinfoil ?.......it's been 6 months.....any screws popped ? I also wanted to keep it shorter than 24 inches outside.....maybe do a removeable travel version so it's near flush for driving / just snap the chimney portion on when you park /.....if I try to adapt it into a sectional I think it would be cool.

      I used a Dektite silicone (high temp) seal on a profiled metal roof with 16 (not 36!!!) screws. The screws go through the aluminium strip easily, without distortion.

    Don't use a level...as this method is dependent on your vehicle being 100% level! A plumbbob is the ONLY way!
