Miller Grove (GA) High School Head Coach, Sharman White, has been an extremely successful coach with strong defensive basketball teams. Coach White takes you through a defensive reaction drill that pits one defender against three different offensive situations. The player must react to the coach’s commands and perform various defensive fundamentals for success.

This is a very active offensive & defensive drill. If it's utilized correctly there's no long standing around. Also what this drill also teaches is if a defender falls he has to get back up QUICKLY, Recognize what's going on in a flash and RECOVER

We have six goals in our gym and I can do this without any standing around....decent coaches could easily understand how to make it happen. So let’s stop all the criticism and support each other in an effort to make things better for all kids

How the hell does this make anyone a better defender? Reacting to coach yelling colors and knowing exactly what the offense is gonna do (drive baseline) is far away from anything close to actual basketball.
And how are you gonna do in a team practice? Have one guy on defense, 3 guys standing there on offense and the rest of your team watching? Such a waste of time, how does this video have a 40:1 like ratio?

How are you going to do this in practice? No everyone isn’t going to just stand and watch. You have other coaches teaching them other skills. You would know that if you actually knew anything about coaching.

I've actually used this drill, my players love it in real time... but I don't call out colors, I randomly point at different cones and they move to that area. In real time!

Too many players just standing around for my taste, I like drills that keep the whole team constantly active.

Defender A does this drill for 100 hours.
Defender B plays 1on1 defense for 100 hours.
    What defender improves more?

how does playing basketball against the same person make you a better defender? it just make you better at guarding that specific player
