As someone who plays Sigma a bunch a big thing I noticed is how slow he is with taking shots. Sigma shoots slow enough as it is and its easy to miss shots, so you cant be sitting there thinking about what to shoot or wasting time lining up shots, that just destroys your damage output. Also, when Zarya was bubbling he would just stare at her until it was over before he would shoot. The idea of shooting someone else never occurs to him. Your job as a tank is to take space, but if the other tank can get right up to you without taking any damage you are useless.
for real, so many fights he's swinging at her, and then she just fades into his backline and he forgor about her entirely while you can clearly hear her sucking people off behind him xD also happened with Sojourn once, she even shot him in the back and he just didn't react at all lmao.

I had to rewatch the first round again just to laugh at how bad the entire team was lol. 2 DPS and 2 supports were brought down by one Moira over and over. Tank was fighting the rest of the enemies by himself just oblivious to them dying one by one right behind him. That truly was classic silver gameplay and I loved every minute of it. 😂
To anyone who recognises any of that this silver tank was saying: YOU ARE NEVER BOTH STUCK AND HARD CARRYING. IF YOU WERE HARD CARRYING YOU WOULD BE HIGHER. Also, it's probably best to NEVER assume you are hard carrying, even in those games that you are, because it stops you from being able to learn from the mistakes that you inevitably will still be making (even if you ARE hard carrying, you AREN'T perfect).
Absolutely not true. Mechanics plays a huge part. I'm high diamond low masters on console dps and tank yet on pc I struggle in silver 4 just cos I can't keyboard and mouse.

@kamranahmad588 I think it's hader as youre the front line. When I panic trying to find the right button on dps it's not as bad as there is half a team in front of me. I panic trying to find the right button on tank and I die. (I secretly use controller on pc for tank as I don't want to ruin others games.)
THIS IS WHY YOU DONT GIVE PEOPLE STATS. People can't analyze stats, they just read it off of face value. This Sigma player said their stats were just fine, yet it took until past 3rd point defense before any of their damage actually contributed to an elim. 3 points! And none of your abilities prevented an ally from dying, or gave an ally space to work with. You were soft flanking 90% of the fights and leaving your entire team wide open for enemy fire. You let the Zarya walk all over everyone, you let the Moira 1v1 your Tracer who was counting on you to fight a 2v1.. Stats dont show effectivity, they just show that you exist in a match, but not that you meaningfully contribute to it. Watching the whole game I'm just amazed this guy is above Bronze 3... they have actual zero idea what they want to do, they just walk at people and push buttons and react to what happens a couple seconds later.. Almost like there's a 200ms ping on their decisionmaking
Exactly. Last i had a game playing moira, enemies had a moira too. We won the game and one of my teammates said there was a moira diff (meaning the enemy moira was better) because she had significant more healing than me. I told to look at the deaths the enemies had and ours. It was something like 5 deaths on average on our team and 15 on the enemies. I told him we just took way less damage overall and there was simply less healing to do. I also told him i had way more damage than the enemy moira (9k for me 2.5k for the other). He refused to believe me that it depends on the situation to focus more on dmg rather then healing as a support. Some people are just fixed on the basics, and i think that is the biggest red flag when you try to become better.
@@fergusgraem3625 Yep this is the exact type of scenario I am talking about, and I experience it every time I have to coach a metal rank support player (or any player for that matter who focuses on what the supports are doing). By applying pressure you force the enemy to deal with you, instead of your team That means you have to heal less, and you can actively control the narrative, so if you are more skilled you will have better outcomes on average. You also put yourself in a position to potentially get an elim, or at the very least force the enemy into rotating their position which is when they become most vulnerable to rng and exploiting their lack of awareness. If you can force the enemy to have to think about at least two factors at once, while also repositioning, they will crumble like tinfoil. On the other hand, you can sit in your own backline and just heal people who take damage, but they will forever keep taking damage until either your team or the enemy team crumbles, which means you basically leave your rank up to 50/50 faith -and this is the real reason why people think elo hell exists and they can't win because of bad team mates. Technically it may be true, but they also actively put themselves in a position where they exclusively rely on their team to carry them, instead of being the consistent diff factor themselves.
Sometimes you gotta take risks to win and those are braindead moments that can save the game It's great to have organisation...but never be afraid to take a risk even if its dumb
@@Keliciabrat Taking a risk should never be dumb. It should be calculated that your life in that instance is worth even just the attempt, but that should never happen more than 1-3 times per match at most. It's just what is called clutching, you have little chance of success, but you need to chase the reward potential despite the risk. This is a last resort. The fallacy of lower rank players, is that they keep putting themselves into situations where they gotta take risks to clutch fights, that's the entire problem. Due to shortcomings in their core gameplay, they have to overcompensate with high risk plays that rarely work. It's not about being afraid to do it or not, it's about acknowledging if there are steps that are being neglected prior to a situation becoming so bad that you have to do "something dumb" to win. If it's necessary, it's not dumb. If it's not necessary but you forced yourself into that position, then it's dumb.
Just a quick tip in general: don't take the flower petals unless your Lifeweaver tells you to. Most times it's for the LW himself (for repositioning, quick escape etc). The first one in this game wasn't the smartest one, considering a Widow could have easily sniped *anyone* but yeah, just try to remember. Most times I set up a platform for me and people take it, leaving me defenseless
I appreciate you writing this comment because it has helped me be a better teammate to my LWs! even though I generally am not interested in taking the platforms for high ground - I mostly play Mercy so I can get to high ground on my own - but now I am extra careful not to step on platforms accidentally.

I was queuing all roles yesterday and got a dps game, at the beginning of which I made sure to tell my team I know I'm bad but I'm trying. surprisingly, everyone was wholesome and our tank told me to tell haters to go kick rocks. anyway, we had a LW and they threw a petal down and I didn't want to take it, even though it was on the Frontline, bc I wasn't sure if it was for them or the team. I think they saw me looking at it and pinged it twice so LW would say "I can elevate you here" so I took it :D granted, I did get onto the high ground and was promptly scared away by a Genji but hey! I made sure to respect my LW's petals and used one when it was for me! lol
He needs to hold down primary fire more than he does. Random spam is very effective especially in low ranks. He seems concerned with his accuracy, which a tank that doesn't even have to reload really shouldn't be. Also, many times he completely ignored enemies to his side or behind him who were loudly attacking his teammates. Does he not hear them? Audio is very important in this game. If he isn't able to hear game sounds, that's an issue he should look to fix. If listening to music while playing, try turning it down or off. I don't listen to music while playing, but I know it helps some people's mental, so just turn it down enough that you can still be aware of your surroundings. Always play with game sounds audible.
One Thing i notice 2 mins in is that they waste Sig shield again and again. Never let the enemy break it bc that brings in a longer cooldown and screws you over. The Rein Play was much better but still: too much shield, too much random charging. And 0 Awareness like standing infront of Bap Window Fire Striking Also that Last Stand on Defense was straight up hilarious. The amount of Chaos lmao

one thing that absolutely bothered me is this lack of awareness. there was a point during the defense where they just left a moira in their backline that killed basically half the team. it's this plus the fact that the entire team couldn't kill a lucio in overtime - this looks like bronze, not silver 😭😭
There were many times like that where you could clearly hear an enemy to the side or behind attacking his team and he just keeps focusing enemy tank. It was stressing me out a little
It's not really his fault if is his team is getting melt by a single Moira. I won't blame him for that. BUT, that guy has to stop shooting the tank. He spent most of the time shooting and using all his cooldowns on Zarya. He should have instead gave minimum credit to her, and shoot all the squishies. It's very hard to win a 1v1 against Zarya

i would love a support with sustained damage, kind of like how soldier is as a dps with a fully automatic weapon. all current supports have a bursty style of doing damage except for maybe moira.
I think a support that can counteract wallhacks of all kinds - like Widow ult, Hanzo sonic, Symm turrets, Sombra critical hp vision, Zen discord, etc. A support that is built do obscure vision - like creating an afterimage of yourself or your allies, etc. We have so much that reveals people and tags them, so a support that is centered around doing the opposite would be awesome. Ult could be like Nocturne ult from LoL where all enemies lose medium/long range sight and can only view whats close to them, cutting off all team visual communication for a set duration.
Question: Why do players (sometimes) Starts fighting a certain person but two seconds later decided to *Naaah one it's not enough I need to shoot 3 different people at the same time for no good reason at all and kill none of them of course*? Like why
because some people are still working on target focusing and target priority. it's a skill like anything else. and overwatch is a very fast paced game that can be very overwhelming. so much is happening all the time. it is hard to be proactive when so much is happening. it's very easy to default to just reacting to what's happening. it's hard to build the skill of processing what's happening very very fast and then making fast decisions in the midst of everything. I am certain there are supposedly basic skills that you lack that other people are much better at. being actually good at overwatch takes a lot of very different skills and being able to use all of them at the right time. it's not an easy game that relies on one or two skills and doesn't require much active decision-making.
In cart stall mode, the best thing you can do is pick a spot and stay there. Sometimes on top of the cart, usually in front. The rest of the team will probably go behind. You stay still and you'll be able to spam and melee when they come to the front.
I feel like his internet wasn't lagging, but his brain was. The staring at enemies and not doing anything, the 90% rock to bubble ratio, the constant shield being destroyed as he watches it slowly lose HP, the walking at a full beam 2 bubble Zarya... This hurt me.
It feels like the guy doesn't know how to take advantage of the AOE part of Sigma's primary fire. Way to often he was too close which requires more skill to land the projectile, which he couldn't. I think killing the Lucio on the hold would have been a lot easier if Sigma just backed up a bit and started bombarding the payload with deathzones. Aiming gets a lot easier when your attacks cover pretty much half the area the Lucio tries to be in with each blast. A simple thing on Rein, I think a lot of easy value was lost on shatters by not firestriking the knocked down enemies immidiedly. The firestrike travels faster than charge, + does a lot of damage to multiple people. Sure, charge also does some small damage to enemies even if he doesn't pin them; However, he also knocks them back, making it harder for the team to follow up on damage to the downed targets. I'm not saying "definitely don't charge first", sometimes that also works, like in 13:51.
@@nottheone7269you should be very afraid of the bubble. it only has 200 damage mitigation, but Zarya gets insanely powerful off of people shooting the bubble. a good rule of thumb is that you should only shoot the bubble when you are confident you can break the bubble AND get the kill on the person inside the bubble.

this was painful to watch, but mostly bc there was zero synergy between the sig/rein's team 😅 like, in terms of individual play, the guy wasn't too bad; there were definite issues with positioning and target priority, but it could have been significantly worse, and if this was a BAD game for him, he could potentially climb the ranks a bit if he works on knowing when to back up and when to push in, and who to target at what point in a fight. but dear lord watching the rest of his team flail if he wasn't making a perfect play...
being an asshole is not necessary to providing substantive feedback. emongg was constantly pointing out issues and what they should or shouldn't do. just because he wasn't screaming obscenities or making it personal doesn't mean he was just letting the gameplay pass him by.

This was painful to watch as a Sigma main. This guy has no cooldown discipline. Smashed most of his rocks against zarya shields, spams his cooldowns when he should've backed up. By the time that Lucio saved the payload and he refused to even shoot at him I was cackling 😂
I could definitely see that player at least in low Gold with that level of Rein play. Just a bit better positioning and shield discipline, and the climb will start. Beyond that, though, there needs to be a lot more significant improvements in game sense and target selection.

This gameplay was painful to watch, I'm surprised he made it to silver because his core playstyle of Rein and Sigma are almost the exact opposite of how they are meant to be played.
I have an unpopular hottake but I think Sig is bait for new players. Sig teaches the worst habit possible for a tank and that is, to give up space. No other tank is encouraged to back up like Sig is. His entire kit is built around briefly holding a location, spam, and then giving up that space if that play doesn't work. I think a lot of low elo Sigs lose games and don't understand why. They blame their supports or their dps because they look at the scoreboard and see they're most damage and fewest deaths but don't understand their team really struggles to make plays when their tank keeps backing up. This has been my experience while playing with a few low elo friend who picked up the game recently.
all tanks need to give up space. just because Sigma controls space by doing damage at a distance (controlling space by zoning out an area with damage) doesn't mean there's something wrong with the hero. everyone, regardless of role or hero choice, needs to fall back at times. overwatch is a complex game, and inexperienced players will misunderstand it at times. that's inevitable and not a sign something is wrong. thankfully, your lower elo friends have a more experienced player (you!) who can teach them about the game and show them it's about making effective plays, not farming stats and blaming others.

@@Slothyy22 if your goal is to help someone improve, the most productive way to do that is (1) identify a small number of areas where they can improve [too many will be overwhelming, prioritization is key]; (2) offer specific tips so they know specific things they can do in the future; and (3) offer specific explanations for why your tips will help them achieve their goals. this is about setting them up for future success and not muddying the water by making it personal. honesty is "doing X was the wrong move because Y. in the future, you can do Z because A, B, and C." you're identifying the mistake, explaining why it was a mistake, and most importantly, you are giving them ideas they can try in the future and explaining why those ideas are better. you're not sugar coating anything, you're identifying the mistakes, but you're not dwelling on the fact they made a mistake. you're being productive, you're looking to the future. that's a much healthier way of approaching giving feedback of any kind imo. I use it in my personal and professional life and it gets good results. here's the problem with fixating on mistakes and telling people they're basically massive fuck ups: why on earth would they listen to anything you say? you're attacking them. you're making it personal. you're kinda punishing them for daring not to be perfect at something. why? it makes no sense IF your goal is actually to help them improve

The fact that he thought he was hard carrying when he was useless for the most part against the other tank, and wasted his ult and his cooldowns on multiple occasions makes me think he doesn't understand the basics yet. He is less focused on scrutinizing his own game play and more focused on blaming others. It took him 2 points to finally start getting off some picks with 4.5 mins remaining on Kings Row(Defending). Humble yourself and go back to the drawing board. I would say Silver is exactly where you belong.

ok please explain for someone who tries to learn sigma in their free time : emongg says that "sigma is more about spam, you need to back up and keep distance vs zarya", but how is that going to accomplish anything? i mean you just ending up giving the space because you backed up... (also i found it very difficult to play vs zarya as sigma either)
zarya takes space directly in front of her, sigma can take space from range, wherever his balls explode are kind of death zones. you can walk back, doing way more damage to them than they can do at range, or just choose to shoot at the rest of the team, so they walk back, and the zarya has to walk back to get support. that’s space creation with sigma, no being in their face
Imo you were way too charitable here. This guy was taking shots with sigma in slow mo and using his cooldowns randomly and not responsively. Whenever something got in the way of his current goal, like Zarya bubbling, he just went afk instead of shooting another target. Also the fact that he wouldn't attempt to help kill Lucio is infuriating. Lucio might as well have skated around on the cart from the beginning and they could have probably held from the beginning of second point. And also saying "losing was a team effort" is not really helpful because in order to get out of silver, you have to play better than all the silver teammates.
In my personal opinion, most players below plat who say they're hard carrying are usually just delusional. If you were really hard carrying as you say, you'd wouldn't be in the lower ranks. You're there for a reason. Also, this guy needs to get off of Sigma. It's not his character. He probably only plays it because it looks cool to him.
people are allowed to play whatever they want. if they want to play Sigma and improve, then there are things they can work on to get better results and feel more in control while playing. but there's also always value to experimenting with other heroes because you might find someone you enjoy more or just enjoy in a different way. no one should limit themself to just 1-2 heroes just because that's who they have always played. but no one should stop playing a hero just because some rando thinks it's "not their hero"
This is just embarrasing. Console Overwatch is a fucking joke. The whole team couldn't hit the lucio who was stalling and let themselves get destroyed by Zarya once she respawned and came back.
I've been liking the silver and gold spectating more. It has a better blend of players. In bronze people are just bad and thats funny i guess. But in silver and gold. You got players with good mechanical skills but terrible game sense. and players with great gamesense but awful mechanics. So it gets weird. I know i've been in gold for awhile lol.
Lol their cooldown usage is ass, their rock usage is terrible. You NEED rock and shield to counter abilities and win duels, not just to fart out randomly and get little to no value. Used rock into Zarya bubble like 50% of the time.

This Sigma player said their stats were just fine, yet it took until past 3rd point defense before any of their damage actually contributed to an elim. 3 points! And none of your abilities prevented an ally from dying, or gave an ally space to work with. You were soft flanking 90% of the fights and leaving your entire team wide open for enemy fire. You let the Zarya walk all over everyone, you let the Moira 1v1 your Tracer who was counting on you to fight a 2v1..
Stats dont show effectivity, they just show that you exist in a match, but not that you meaningfully contribute to it.
Watching the whole game I'm just amazed this guy is above Bronze 3... they have actual zero idea what they want to do, they just walk at people and push buttons and react to what happens a couple seconds later.. Almost like there's a 200ms ping on their decisionmaking
Exactly. Last i had a game playing moira, enemies had a moira too. We won the game and one of my teammates said there was a moira diff (meaning the enemy moira was better) because she had significant more healing than me. I told to look at the deaths the enemies had and ours. It was something like 5 deaths on average on our team and 15 on the enemies. I told him we just took way less damage overall and there was simply less healing to do. I also told him i had way more damage than the enemy moira (9k for me 2.5k for the other). He refused to believe me that it depends on the situation to focus more on dmg rather then healing as a support. Some people are just fixed on the basics, and i think that is the biggest red flag when you try to become better.
@@fergusgraem3625 Yep this is the exact type of scenario I am talking about, and I experience it every time I have to coach a metal rank support player (or any player for that matter who focuses on what the supports are doing).
By applying pressure you force the enemy to deal with you, instead of your team That means you have to heal less, and you can actively control the narrative, so if you are more skilled you will have better outcomes on average. You also put yourself in a position to potentially get an elim, or at the very least force the enemy into rotating their position which is when they become most vulnerable to rng and exploiting their lack of awareness. If you can force the enemy to have to think about at least two factors at once, while also repositioning, they will crumble like tinfoil.
On the other hand, you can sit in your own backline and just heal people who take damage, but they will forever keep taking damage until either your team or the enemy team crumbles, which means you basically leave your rank up to 50/50 faith -and this is the real reason why people think elo hell exists and they can't win because of bad team mates. Technically it may be true, but they also actively put themselves in a position where they exclusively rely on their team to carry them, instead of being the consistent diff factor themselves.
Sometimes you gotta take risks to win and those are braindead moments that can save the game

It should be calculated that your life in that instance is worth even just the attempt, but that should never happen more than 1-3 times per match at most. It's just what is called clutching, you have little chance of success, but you need to chase the reward potential despite the risk. This is a last resort.
The fallacy of lower rank players, is that they keep putting themselves into situations where they gotta take risks to clutch fights, that's the entire problem. Due to shortcomings in their core gameplay, they have to overcompensate with high risk plays that rarely work. It's not about being afraid to do it or not, it's about acknowledging if there are steps that are being neglected prior to a situation becoming so bad that you have to do "something dumb" to win. If it's necessary, it's not dumb. If it's not necessary but you forced yourself into that position, then it's dumb.

Just a quick tip in general: don't take the flower petals unless your Lifeweaver tells you to. Most times it's for the LW himself (for repositioning, quick escape etc). The first one in this game wasn't the smartest one, considering a Widow could have easily sniped *anyone* but yeah, just try to remember. Most times I set up a platform for me and people take it, leaving me defenseless
I've learned a good rule of thumb is: If it's in the frontline, it's fair game for anyone. If it's in the backline, yeah, leave it for LW.
Lw is a throw pick, im going to do whatever I want when they are on my team.

I was queuing all roles yesterday and got a dps game, at the beginning of which I made sure to tell my team I know I'm bad but I'm trying. surprisingly, everyone was wholesome and our tank told me to tell haters to go kick rocks. anyway, we had a LW and they threw a petal down and I didn't want to take it, even though it was on the Frontline, bc I wasn't sure if it was for them or the team. I think they saw me looking at it and pinged it twice so LW would say "I can elevate you here" so I took it :D granted, I did get onto the high ground and was promptly scared away by a Genji but hey! I made sure to respect my LW's petals and used one when it was for me! lol
He needs to hold down primary fire more than he does. Random spam is very effective especially in low ranks. He seems concerned with his accuracy, which a tank that doesn't even have to reload really shouldn't be. Also, many times he completely ignored enemies to his side or behind him who were loudly attacking his teammates. Does he not hear them? Audio is very important in this game. If he isn't able to hear game sounds, that's an issue he should look to fix. If listening to music while playing, try turning it down or off. I don't listen to music while playing, but I know it helps some people's mental, so just turn it down enough that you can still be aware of your surroundings. Always play with game sounds audible.

one thing that absolutely bothered me is this lack of awareness. there was a point during the defense where they just left a moira in their backline that killed basically half the team. it's this plus the fact that the entire team couldn't kill a lucio in overtime - this looks like bronze, not silver 😭😭
There were many times like that where you could clearly hear an enemy to the side or behind attacking his team and he just keeps focusing enemy tank. It was stressing me out a little

It's not really his fault if is his team is getting melt by a single Moira. I won't blame him for that. BUT, that guy has to stop shooting the tank. He spent most of the time shooting and using all his cooldowns on Zarya. He should have instead gave minimum credit to her, and shoot all the squishies. It's very hard to win a 1v1 against Zarya

i would love a support with sustained damage, kind of like how soldier is as a dps with a fully automatic weapon. all current supports have a bursty style of doing damage except for maybe moira.
I think a support that can counteract wallhacks of all kinds - like Widow ult, Hanzo sonic, Symm turrets, Sombra critical hp vision, Zen discord, etc. A support that is built do obscure vision - like creating an afterimage of yourself or your allies, etc. We have so much that reveals people and tags them, so a support that is centered around doing the opposite would be awesome.
Ult could be like Nocturne ult from LoL where all enemies lose medium/long range sight and can only view whats close to them, cutting off all team visual communication for a set duration.
Question: Why do players (sometimes) Starts fighting a certain person but two seconds later decided to *Naaah one it's not enough I need to shoot 3 different people at the same time for no good reason at all and kill none of them of course*? Like why
because some people are still working on target focusing and target priority. it's a skill like anything else. and overwatch is a very fast paced game that can be very overwhelming. so much is happening all the time. it is hard to be proactive when so much is happening. it's very easy to default to just reacting to what's happening. it's hard to build the skill of processing what's happening very very fast and then making fast decisions in the midst of everything.
I am certain there are supposedly basic skills that you lack that other people are much better at. being actually good at overwatch takes a lot of very different skills and being able to use all of them at the right time. it's not an easy game that relies on one or two skills and doesn't require much active decision-making.
In cart stall mode, the best thing you can do is pick a spot and stay there. Sometimes on top of the cart, usually in front. The rest of the team will probably go behind. You stay still and you'll be able to spam and melee when they come to the front.
never stand on cart lol you're just offering yourself up as a ball of ult charge for the enemy team. use hard cover and take map control.

It feels like the guy doesn't know how to take advantage of the AOE part of Sigma's primary fire. Way to often he was too close which requires more skill to land the projectile, which he couldn't. I think killing the Lucio on the hold would have been a lot easier if Sigma just backed up a bit and started bombarding the payload with deathzones. Aiming gets a lot easier when your attacks cover pretty much half the area the Lucio tries to be in with each blast.
A simple thing on Rein, I think a lot of easy value was lost on shatters by not firestriking the knocked down enemies immidiedly. The firestrike travels faster than charge, + does a lot of damage to multiple people. Sure, charge also does some small damage to enemies even if he doesn't pin them; However, he also knocks them back, making it harder for the team to follow up on damage to the downed targets.
I'm not saying "definitely don't charge first", sometimes that also works, like in 13:51.
That last fight it was Junk's fault for using ult on no one, I guess

like, in terms of individual play, the guy wasn't too bad; there were definite issues with positioning and target priority, but it could have been significantly worse, and if this was a BAD game for him, he could potentially climb the ranks a bit if he works on knowing when to back up and when to push in, and who to target at what point in a fight. but dear lord watching the rest of his team flail if he wasn't making a perfect play...

as for entertainment value, that's entirely subjective. maybe you didn't enjoy it and weren't entertained, but that's how these things go. you're not going to enjoy everything. for instance, tons of people love flats' roasting videos. I could definitely see that player at least in low Gold with that level of Rein play. Just a bit better positioning and shield discipline, and the climb will start.
Beyond that, though, there needs to be a lot more significant improvements in game sense and target selection.
His Rein is nowhere near gold. He only goes forward with charge. Takes him 3 seconds to react to anything.

I have an unpopular hottake but I think Sig is bait for new players. Sig teaches the worst habit possible for a tank and that is, to give up space. No other tank is encouraged to back up like Sig is. His entire kit is built around briefly holding a location, spam, and then giving up that space if that play doesn't work. I think a lot of low elo Sigs lose games and don't understand why. They blame their supports or their dps because they look at the scoreboard and see they're most damage and fewest deaths but don't understand their team really struggles to make plays when their tank keeps backing up. This has been my experience while playing with a few low elo friend who picked up the game recently.
all tanks need to give up space. just because Sigma controls space by doing damage at a distance (controlling space by zoning out an area with damage) doesn't mean there's something wrong with the hero. everyone, regardless of role or hero choice, needs to fall back at times. overwatch is a complex game, and inexperienced players will misunderstand it at times. that's inevitable and not a sign something is wrong. thankfully, your lower elo friends have a more experienced player (you!) who can teach them about the game and show them it's about making effective plays, not farming stats and blaming others.

I’m not in disagreement with you. But I don’t feel like you’re looking at my argument with the proper understanding. I imagine this isn’t a fault of yours. You probably don’t play with lower elo friends. There isn’t another tank quite like Sig in the game. And because of his kit I find it teaching low elo players bad habits. I’d rather they feed by diving too deep. By doing so, at least the numbers they’re using to judge by will reflect the poor decision making better. Obviously it’s not about stats but that’s what a new player will gravitate towards when understanding the game. And characters like Sig are bait for that scoreboard. I didn’t say something was wrong. what is "honesty" to you is actually unproductive. it doesn't give anyone actionable, useful points to focus on and grow.

@@Slothyy22 if your goal is to help someone improve, the most productive way to do that is (1) identify a small number of areas where they can improve [too many will be overwhelming, prioritization is key]; (2) offer specific tips so they know specific things they can do in the future; and (3) offer specific explanations for why your tips will help them achieve their goals.
this is about setting them up for future success and not muddying the water by making it personal.
honesty is "doing X was the wrong move because Y. in the future, you can do Z because A, B, and C." you're identifying the mistake, explaining why it was a mistake, and most importantly, you are giving them ideas they can try in the future and explaining why those ideas are better. you're not sugar coating anything, you're identifying the mistakes, but you're not dwelling on the fact they made a mistake. you're being productive, you're looking to the future.
that's a much healthier way of approaching giving feedback of any kind imo. I use it in my personal and professional life and it gets good results.
here's the problem with fixating on mistakes and telling people they're basically massive fuck ups: why on earth would they listen to anything you say? you're attacking them. you're making it personal. you're kinda punishing them for daring not to be perfect at something. why? it makes no sense IF your goal is actually to help them improve

The fact that he thought he was hard carrying when he was useless for the most part against the other tank, and wasted his ult and his cooldowns on multiple occasions makes me think he doesn't understand the basics yet. He is less focused on scrutinizing his own game play and more focused on blaming others. It took him 2 points to finally start getting off some picks with 4.5 mins remaining on Kings Row(Defending). Humble yourself and go back to the drawing board. I would say Silver is exactly where you belong.

zarya takes space directly in front of her, sigma can take space from range, wherever his balls explode are kind of death zones. you can walk back, doing way more damage to them than they can do at range, or just choose to shoot at the rest of the team, so they walk back, and the zarya has to walk back to get support. that’s space creation with sigma, no being in their face

Imo you were way too charitable here. This guy was taking shots with sigma in slow mo and using his cooldowns randomly and not responsively. Whenever something got in the way of his current goal, like Zarya bubbling, he just went afk instead of shooting another target. Also the fact that he wouldn't attempt to help kill Lucio is infuriating. Lucio might as well have skated around on the cart from the beginning and they could have probably held from the beginning of second point. And also saying "losing was a team effort" is not really helpful because in order to get out of silver, you have to play better than all the silver teammates.

In my personal opinion, most players below plat who say they're hard carrying are usually just delusional. If you were really hard carrying as you say, you'd wouldn't be in the lower ranks. You're there for a reason. Also, this guy needs to get off of Sigma. It's not his character. He probably only plays it because it looks cool to him.
people are allowed to play whatever they want. if they want to play Sigma and improve, then there are things they can work on to get better results and feel more in control while playing.
but there's also always value to experimenting with other heroes because you might find someone you enjoy more or just enjoy in a different way. no one should limit themself to just 1-2 heroes just because that's who they have always played.
but no one should stop playing a hero just because some rando thinks it's "not their hero"

I've been liking the silver and gold spectating more. It has a better blend of players. In bronze people are just bad and thats funny i guess. But in silver and gold. You got players with good mechanical skills but terrible game sense. and players with great gamesense but awful mechanics. So it gets weird. I know i've been in gold for awhile lol.
Lol their cooldown usage is ass, their rock usage is terrible. You NEED rock and shield to counter abilities and win duels, not just to fart out randomly and get little to no value. Used rock into Zarya bubble like 50% of the time.
