- Victims’ families get their final say in court prior to the sentencing of the Parkland school shooter. The statements follow a nearly three-month trial, after which a jury of seven men and five women could not unanimously agree on the death penalty for the convicted killer, resulting in a life sentence.

I can't take this. My heart breaks so badly for these families, and this young man. I can't imagine losing a child, but watching my child suffer losing their sibling is completely unimaginable.
I know, ive followed this since it happened and was the same age as them. Its so sickening, im so glad to be done w school, i fear for all the kids still in schools nowadays. My heart’s absolutely broken for all the victims .
It’s honestly the worst. My brother was killed just over a year ago and we’re all still struggling to heal and live with it. We didn’t have parents, we were all each other had. He was our father figure. We’re completely lost without him. You don’t expect to grow old with your parents, but you expect to be able to grow old with your siblings. We were robbed of that joy and peace of mind. It’s heartbreaking what these families are going through.
Yes, he is suffering. But he showed tremendous strength and composure. He delivered his well written speech and made no mistakes. Impressive.
This young man is traumatized , although he is reading a well prepared statement ! He has been affected greatly and the manner of death his sister died of is horrific . I pray this family heals . 🙏

He understands all too well what he is saying ! He was the baby in the family and now there is a giant void in the family's lives . The father is more angry , at this point, the mother I have seen give an impact statement . What you mistake for " autism " is trauma and grief .

I never ever cry, but this really got to me halfway through I had tears. I’m a brother who lost my sister recently and it’s hurt me terribly bad. It’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to my family, she was a year younger than me only 23. I would do anything to see her again.
That final part of your comment made me break down. I wish that one day you would get to meet her again. In the afterlife or even in your dreams
I too know what it’s like to go from younger brother to only child in the matter of hours. It’s literally as if you lost your other half. Mine was an older brother who was only 1 year older than me so we literally grew up right side by side until I was 19. It hurts, it really hurts. It’s such a lonely empty feeling and I feel for this kid man. I just hope he finds a better way to cope with it than I did.

I’m glad you are sharing what you have gone through. There’s healing at times in sharing and verbally getting the pain out. How did you manage through it? Sending you much love and care. Life can be so unpredictable at times and completely unjust. I hope there is peace down the road that you will find. For me, losing someone close meant that their number and name stays in present tense, not deleted. It helped me deal with it. Although it was not my brother. I’m sorry for your pain.
@@malovina at first i took the denial route, numbed myself with drugs and alcohol, i had to keep myself busy constantly to try and not think about it so i eventually found myself running a muck in the streets with a group of, well… ill just say not the best kind of people you could have as friends. That only sunk me deeper into that hole which made it harder to pull myself out of once i was ready to face the reality of what happened. Now im 31 and practically forced to choose either a life of crime, drugs and alcohol or a life of sobriety and stability but full of loneliness with nobody.

My heart goes out to these families. As a mental health counselor however, nothing these families say actually matter to Nicolas. The blank/ empty stare in his eyes shows his lack of remorse/empathy/understanding. He is a sick individual. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the people who are hurting. ❤

My heart breaks for this kid. You could tell he loved his big sister so much and looked up to her, but that evil monster took her life and made that kid an only child. I think when this kid has children of his own, he would not only be a great dad, but if he ever has a daughter he would probably name her after his sister as a way to honor her memory

As someone much older, who lost his only sister and sibling, due to cancer... my heart breaks for this young man, as I understand the true feelings of loss and emptiness too. If I could, I'd reach out, and give him a hug, and tell him that his sister is watching out for him, like mine has for me.
This young man has matured overnight due to this horrific tragedy, but the anger and passion in him, will serve him in time. I actually feel his is destined to become an attorney himself... for the prosecution! And he will be a damn good one! 😊

Bless this young man. He is courageous in his speaking. You can feel the anger and disgust, yet controlled. I completely have sympathy for these families. I can't begin to know how horrible this is. I give Anthony so much credit for coming out and saying what he did.
I am glad this boy's Dad was standing beside his son to support him, I am most sure the families have cried untold amount of tears. I remember the passing of my Dad from cancer, I cried for days, and had lots of support from family and friends, but you cry yourself to sleep every day for months afterwards. This young man's speech was well prepared and presented, and you could slice the tension in the courtroom that day. I will be praying for him and his family along with anyone else affected by this act of murder.

All the testimonies got me but this one right here hit me in a personal level. I am very very close to my brother, he’s six years older than me and has always fiercely protected his sister, I can’t imagine either of us ever having to give this statement. I can’t, literally can’t even think about it. Much love to all these family and friends having to go through all of this.

Being a Daughter of a murdered victim ( unrelated to this ), I understand fully what these Fathers, Mothers, Brothers, Sisters, Boyfriends, Girlfriends, ect. are going through. And I personally want to say to them, you're not alone in your grieving, the emotional wounds will never heal. There will be better days, and then there will be days where you just want to turn back the hands of time and this wouldn't have ever happened.

What an incredibly wise, thoughtful and brave young man. There is no words to describe the impact upon a child when their sibling dies. It’s not only the loss of their friend, the confidante, their ally. Nor is it having to watch your loved ones with broken hearts, with no way to help them. But it’s also the the necessity to alter their position within the family, as this bright young man, so clearly spelt out. In the blink of an eye, this young man went from being a brother of two children, to an only child, so violently, and needlessly. The enormity of these things can barely be imagined. But I hope if nothing else, he will always remember that on the day he spoke those words he paid the most loving, thoughtful strong tribute to his sister possible. She would I am sure, be so proud of him. I hope that he is able to build the best life possible for himself, grasping every opportunity to ensure the best quality of life for himself and of course his family.
