Hello everyone, welcome back to 52audio.
Today, we will disassemble Sony’s latest noise cancelling earbuds for everyone.
To be honest, Sony has its own way of naming its product, very unique.
This one is called Sony WF-1000XM4, which is Sony’s flagship earbuds.
After using it for a few days, I found that this pair of earbuds is very good at audio quality and noise cancellation.
So, let’s go ahead to tear it down and find out the internal design and components.

After watching this video.. I am totally satisfied by purchasing the XM4s.. They looks so clean and well designed.. Not glued everywhere as in the apple air buds or other brands.
Actually.. To be disassembled with out scratch or crushing any thing.. That is a huge bonus. 👌🏻❤️

Completely misleading. After spending the last 2 hours trying to get the earbuds open, I have given up. No amount of heat or prying does anything whatsoever. All I've managed to achieve is to scratch the things up completely. Next step is just melting through the body with soldering iron at this point. These things, like every other Bluetooth earbud are meant for a landfill.

@@SquarePenix. I spent a couple of hours looking into this, and unfortunately you can't get the Z55 anywhere, but I found out the Varta 1254 is the same size, so I assume it can be used as a replacement battery, the only difference is the voltage is slightly less, but its the same battery that was used in the XM3's so should be fine.

I've seen teardown videos of some other earbud brands where they used so much glue that the whole thing had to be ripped into pieces in order to be opened. Props to sony for using screws instead of glue, the earbuds seem totally repairable. Also I've seen this trend where some brands are incorporating multiple drivers (4-5) into the earbuds in order to better separate frequencies and for a clearer sound, while Sony's top end earbuds just uses one. So I guess adding multiple drivers is a bit of a gimmick?

my right side battery died just recently even though I hardly ever used them. but I replaced it but ripped off a little locking mechanism for a ribbon but it still works so far and its nice to listen to them again and it doesnt cut off automatically after about 30 minutes because the battery was so low in the right ear bud, but I also bought a back up ear buds made by anker P3i for 34 bucks off amazon and other than the app they both seem to have the same audio quality, but the sony app is superior you have more options like the equalizer and increasing BASS and the ear buds cushions are better quality and more comfortable

The online version of this battery doesn't exist. Someone mentioned the Verta CP1254 A3 as a replacement. Do you know if this works, as it is voltage is not 3.85, but only 3.7 something. I got here when looking for to how the buds are made in the inside, worried about its resilience to fall damage, because I accidentally dropped mine (not once, not twice, sht...) and it started bothering me if something could be dislodged inside. The buds are working just fine, with no apparently damage, seems just as new, however as I said, I'm getting worried and I'll be more careful. Do you think something could get out of its place inside the buds if dropped? My drops were always like 1 meter high, on mid/hard floors.

I just replaced the battery in my right unit and after opening with heat a a spudger I was able to reseal the halves together with a little bit of IPA 99.9%, this sofend the existing glue so it re-bonded after using some pegs to keep both halves together for 30min. Hope this helps.

Not sure if you know but there is an issue in most of these units where a metal echo noise comes after you bite your teeth. It comes in ANC/Ambient mode and turning them off makes the sound go away (not really 100% but it’s like 1% of what it used to be).
People suspect there is a sling that causes this. Did you happen to notice anything similar?
