    IO Interactive released a teaser in November 2020 for a new game they are making which is called Project 007(working title) which is an original story of Bond's origin story and how he gets his 00 status. The likeness of Bond won't tie into any actor and is completely original. The latest news that we got of this game was that it's been pitched as the ultimate spycraft fantasy and will be more scripted than Hitman and the tone will be closer to Daniel Craig than Roger Moore.

    You won my heart immediately with the praise for Luciana Paluzzi, my favourite villainess by a mile.

      However not only did Roger Moore beat up on Nick Nack he also threatened to break Maud Adams' arm and worst of all blew up Caroline Munro. Although Roger was a lovely bloke there can never be any excuse for that last one!

    28:50-29:13 | The 20 seconds of you groaning trying to figure out what to say about Die Another Day, was all that anyone needs to say about Die Another Day. Too funny!

    Love it! I've got all of those DVDs myself, from back when Dr. No through The World is Not Enough were being issued in three boxed sets. We differ occasionally on some of the less important titles, but OHMSS is also my Number 1. The Living Daylights and Casino Royale are also definitely in my Top 5. Great films!

      Culturedog Thank you as always!! I am so wanting to know which ones you disagree with me on! Please tell me!! I would love to hear your opinions on the films (I don’t mind at all if you don’t like a film I like!). 😃 and what are the other films that fill the rest of your “favorites 007 film” list!

    • @Culturedog

      I"ve been dragging my heels on making an official Culturedog ranking video for the 007 series - but I basically have three tiers: the films I love through and through, the mid-tier ones that I love yet have some quibbles about, and the lower tier films that I'm lukewarm on (or even dislike) yet still love because they're James Bond films. Haha!
      In the upper tier (right now at least), it's:
      On Her Majesty's Secret Service
      Casino Royale
      Goldfinger (even though Bond hilariously fails at just about everything in it!)
      From Russia With Love
      The Living Daylights
      You Only Live Twice (it was the first Connery I saw, so it left an impression!)
      In the middle tier are:
      The Spy Who Loved Me (though I wish Barry had scored it)
      Thunderball
      Quantum of Solace (soooooo underrated - this is at the high end of this section)
      Dr. No
      License to Kill
      For Your Eyes Only (again, John Barry was sorely missed!)
      Skyfall
      SPECTRE
      Moonraker (the ultimate Moore guilty pleasure - I love it!)
      The World is Not Enough
      Tomorrow Never Dies
      The Man With the Golden Gun (which just got bumped up into this tier - it used to be among my least favorite, but keeps getting better with repeat viewings, while the other Guy Hamilton/Tom Mankiewicz efforts stay sunken at the bottom)
      And in the bottom tier are:
      Goldeneye (though I've grown to appreciate it as a primo piece of 90s pop culture)
      Octopussy
      A View to a Kill
      Die Another Day
      Live and Let Die
      Diamonds are Forever

    • @DaisukeBeppu
      @DaisukeBeppu  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      OOOOHHH!!! You put A View to a Kill in the bottom tier! Them's fightin' words!!!
      Just kidding!
      I love your list, Culturedog. You have a really great way of making your points in such an easy-to-understand way. I have a lot to learn from you and your great presentation style.
      I really respect how you put Quantum of Solace in the middle tier with distinction. I love the way that film muddies the waters about who is who. The Americans are shady (except for Leiter I suppose), and I still don't know ultimately what the deal was with Mathis. Also M is seen in a bit of a "bad guy" light, which is really fascinating. I also LOVE the scene at the opera of Tosca. That has to get the award for "Most Awesomely Awkward Places to Hold Villians Meetings".
      Alas, I can't get behind Spectre. The big Spectre meeting pales in comparison to Quantum of Solace, and I don't want to start on the whole background of Bond thing! But who knows, it might go up in my list one of these days.
      Your top tier is solid.

    • @Culturedog
      @Culturedog 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha! There's still plenty about A View to a Kill that I love - mostly Christopher Walken, San Francisco, and the music. It also taught me that the British pronunciation of St. John is "sin-jin"!
      The Tosca section of Quantum of Solace is AMAZING! David Arnold's cue is fantastic (so much so that it was ripped off for the Inception score), and the vibe is untouchable. I love the moment when Bond and Greene come face to face after he blows the group's cover. I'm a big fan of Mathieu Amalric's villain. He's very layered - unassuming, easy to underestimate on the outside, yet very dangerous and crazy on the inside, with that inner darkness occasionally bubbling to the surface - especially in his eyes.
      I also love (and this is the part that very often gets overlooked or confused) its take on revenge, and how Bond's bloodlust is a bit of a red herring - everyone (characters within the film and viewers of the film) assumes he's off-the-rails with blind rage in an effort to avenge Vesper, but he's actually avenging Quantum's attempt on M's life and doesn't allow himself proper closure with Vesper until the job is done. Meanwhile, Camille is the one who's actually displaying the vengeful traits everyone applies to Bond, and she works as a mirror to show him the futility of that path were he to choose it himself. For a film with essentially no writer, it's got a surprising amount of nuanced character work.
      There's a lot I love about Spectre, but... I really wish they could just make a mission movie. Part of the fun of Quantum of Solace is the first half has Bond as a non-rogue, with MI6 back in London lending support. At the end of that film, I was satisfied that they had wrapped everything up well enough that they could finally let Craig do straight-up mission films. But Skyfall was too obsessed with tearing everything down to re-reboot the series, and Spectre was too hell-bent on tearing it all down again and throwing the secret service into a state of flux. And yeah, I definitely wasn't excited about the decision to make Blofeld a pseudo-brother to Bond, and to retroactively attribute all of the events of the prior 3 films to his maniacal master plan to hurt Bond for stealing his dad's affection. And they spend far too little time in his rather cool villainous lair. But... that opening Day of the Dead scene is amazing! And I actually love the short segment with Monica Bellucci's character, though it is too bad they weren't able to squeak in a Felix Leiter cameo. And any of the scenes with Lea Seydoux are delightful.
      Ugh! This is far too long! I can talk about James Bond all day! Haha!

    • @DaisukeBeppu
      @DaisukeBeppu  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, where to begin!
      I love your take on Quantum, and how Bond is in fact just trying to achieve his objective of discovering Quantum. Really interesting.
      Also, I love your take on the character of Camille. I will take this into account when I watch this film again. Thank you. Thanks to you, I might be able to begin to better appreciate this movie. But in the TOSCA scene, when Bond is taking all those photos, I love the way Craig delivers the line "Thank you" and walks away. I love how Craig just throws away lines in a way that makes him such a bada$$.
      But Spectre, hmmm.. I am still not on board with that one unfortunately. I too would love the series to get away from the "This time it's personal" stories and more on the simple "Bond on a mission" stories. I love the no-nonsense approach of the earlier Bond films in that regard.
      Skyfall is a fine picture, but I hesitate to agree with the view that it is the best Bond film of all time. Casino Royale more deserves that kind of attention. That is a real masterpiece. A spiritual sequel in a way to OHMSS. I love everything about that film.
      Yes, "sin-jun" Symthe! Let me just say here that I love the really awkward way that the screenplay tries to shoehorn in the title of the film into the dialogue:
      MAYDAY (looking down from the cockpit of the blimp): Wow, what a view!
      ZORIN (looking down with her, and whispering): TO A KILL!
      Woah! That is so wonderfully awkward! No one would ever have a conversation like that in real life ever! I love it!! Still, "A View To A Kill" is a better film title than "From A View To A Kill" I suppose.

    OHMSS my favorite Bond film too. I happened to like George. Connery was looking old and tired. For someone who had only done a couple of commercials George was IMHO darn good. He would have gotten better had he done more. Peter Hunt should have directed more Bond films.

    “Never Say Never Again” - inspired casting. Edward Fox, Bassinger, von Sydow, Rowan Atkinson et. al. The cruelty of the villain; cringeworthy. Music by Michel Legrand dang. All this and it’s a “one-off” production. On laserdisc.

      @DaisukeBeppu  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      rafrodr I love your comment about NSNA!!
      You are so right to point it out!!
      Fatima Blush is one of the best parts of that movie!!! I want one of those pens!!
      The dialogue is really great in places!
      And that scene with the Domination video game and the tango, really well done!
      The more I learn about the situation, the more I find myself sympathizing with Kevin McClory’s position in the relevant dispute.
      When I upgrade all to blu, I will try to find a good copy of NSNA!

      Watch out for the Japanese Herald Videogram LD, as it's a pretty bizarre disc. The picture quality is very weak to begin with, but it's also incorrectly listed as being letterboxed to 2.35:1 on the LDDB. It IS roughly letterboxed, but looks more like a direct scan of an anamorphically squeezed print, with a distorted aspect ratio, visible splice marks and all sorts of other nasty artifacts. It's a hot mess, but a really interesting one!

    Everything from 28:50 onwards is hilarious, as you try and find something good to say about Die Another Die and ultimately find nothing...
    Nice video as usual, I’ve been working through the Bond films and I do disagree with a number of things here...
    I’m currently at Moonraker and so far Dr. No is my favorite of the Bond films. Then it’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and I really like Lazenby in that film.

    Really enjoyable video Daisuke! I love Bond too as you know. We have the same favourite Bond film with OHMSS. haha hilarious ending when you discuss Die Another Day. That is the effect it has i guess. It's easily my least favourite with pretty much no redeeming qualities. I done a ranking video last year and will likely be rewatching the series again before Bond 25. Maybe i will skip Die Another Day though haha.

      @@DaisukeBeppu Yeah i loved this video Daisuke!
      I really don't know what on earth happened with Die Another Day. Absolutely insane and truly awful imo. Just wondering whether you have any Bond related videos planned for the future as i really loved hearing you discuss the franchise. I am a bit unsure about Bond 25 for obvious reasons (clearly many of us are skeptical) but i hope it turns out to be a great film. The Daniel Craig films have been up and down for me. I love Casino Royale and Skyfall but Spectre was so disappointing and QoS was just bad.

      @@cinearts1173 I might talk about Bond films some more. It is a series that I really like (but I admit that I am not as fond of the Craig films as others are, except that I really love Casino Royale and I think Quantum of Solace is richer than I had originally thought it was).

    I’m playing catch up with your old videos. This is lovely and I enjoy your opinions for their honesty and insight. I’m very happy you also love the films that are too often considered disappointments.
    I would mention a few things:
    I don’t think George sucks in OHMSS but that he was completely inexperienced and given the most demanding story of the series to act out. It is the genius of Peter Hunt that makes the whole film work around George and elevate him to the proper performance standard.
    I don’t think there’s an issue with racial politics in LALD as everyone is fully intelligent and everyone is Bond’s equal. The novel on the other hand is very problematic to discuss these days as its view of African American culture has not exactly dated very well...it’s an amazing book with great passages but one can see the inherent racism of the 1950s. The film goes to great lengths to negate this and I think does a perfect job in doing so.
    As for Licence to Kill they had many production and budgetary problems which caused some things to lack the usual polish of the series-but that fits artistically with the rougher and more gritty story being told.
    I agree wholeheartedly on the Brosnan era being a mixed bag. I love them in spite of their flaws but they have many problems chiefly being that they don’t really know what they want to be. Brosnan is great but never got the material he deserved and each film never quite fired on all cylinders. Goldeneye is the most successful. All are great on the big screen as an experience technically especially in their sound mixes. TWINE is an interesting attempt to be different that becomes a problem because they always go back and try to do the formula regular style throughout the film. The thing with the plutonium rod is that the machinery has to start over every time as far as I understand it. The underwhelming final fight climax is a big problem in the film for sure.
    Die Another Day is a missed opportunity. It’s not horrible but has many cringe inducing moments throughout. I’d argue the film is downhill from the introduction of Jinx onward. It appears the producers allowed too much leeway with the director bringing in distinctly non Bond elements. As for the villain reveal it is a lift directly from unused Fleming material. The villain revealed to be another entity with an undercover agent assistant with a frosty demeanor is from Fleming’s Moonraker novel and the writers merely shoehorned it into the film.
    Have you ever read the novels Daisuke? They’re quite different in tonality and I’d be very interested in how you like them.

    • @DaisukeBeppu
      @DaisukeBeppu  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much for the excellent, excellent comment! Oh yes, this is one of my first videos on this channel.
      And to answer your question, yes I have read the Fleming novels many times, and I agree with you in terms of their tone and approach, especially when compared to the films. Perhaps the most striking examples are Moonraker, Live and Let Die, and The Spy Who Loved Me. Also there are a number of details that never emerged in the films (such as, for example Dr. No) as you know. I think my favorite of the Fleming novels is Moonraker.

    Spectre is the only truly terrible Bond film. Yes, the Moore era had some oddball moments, and the Connery films have their blemishes, and the last two Brosnans are weak on story but still memorable. Spectre is very sadly a tired film, despite Mendes trying to switch it up.
