Fluffy slippers are a must during the winter! Love watching your videos, they helped me feel confident the first time I made soap. I also love how you use natural colorants and make everyday soap, some videos have so much stuff on top I don't know how they use the bar!
Just wanted to say thank you as I have my own soap business now and your videos helped me so much when I first started out, and continue to enjoy watching your videos 💗 you have a lovely calming voice and your videos are so informative and helpful 👍🏻
As a little time saver for the palm oil, you can melt the palm oil then put into smaller molds, like the Wilton brownie bite molds, then it is easier to weight like that then having to keep re-melting. PS....enjoyed the behind the scenes!!!!
That's a wonderful tip Nancy, thank you! The PO I bought came in a 4kg box/bag. I separated it out into these smaller containers. It has worked quite well but smaller sizes would be even better.
I was a bit stressed at the beginning (my chihuahua puppy had her vaccines today) but at the end I was “stress free”. Thank you for a beautiful video! God bless you! 🙏👏👍🧼🛁🫧
Yes, you're a VERY happy soapmaker. I'm smiling too! Always a joy. Such lovely soaps....wish I was aware of you soapmaking business back in the day....Thank you Elly.

I always learn something from your videos, whether it’s something about the chemistry or something in your method and/or ingredient choices. Another awesome video! Thank you so much for sharing your experience….again. :)
Good soaping is always a must in this cold winter weather. A brilliant mix of ingredients brought together with a wonderful mix of fragrances. Awesome 😍 😍
Love your soap videos. I’ve made my first batch of lavender soap. And today made your coffee soap. God it’s smell divine. Thank you. I love you are so normal, mistakes and all as that’s how we learn as beginner soap makers. Xxxkim
Thank you Elly ❤ I started to watch your videos in pandemic and it inspired me to do soap making (just for family) Now I have a business out of it. I loved to watch and learn from your videos. Recently I made a liquid soap batch inspired from your ricebrain oil liquid soap video. Happy soapmaking! 😇
Hi, Elly! You're my inspiration! I never thought I'd be making soap, but after watching your videos, I decided to make my first batch. I like the simplicity of your recipes and detailed explanation on what's going on and why. Thank you for sharing. You're the best teacher on YT!

Excellent! I am like that about some things. We can't take up every hobby that sparks out interest, we'd never get really good at anything that way! Stick to what you love and buy the rest I reckon :)
Was just wondering about your labels for your soaps. I’m not sure if it is in this video, but saw it in one of yours. They look fabulous. Hoping you are happy to share.
Hello again Elly! Wonderful to see you on the cold process soap making again, and an epic session to boot - as you have done previously. I loved watching this as you seamlessly moved through the process with your gentle narration and smiling face. I also enjoyed the brief appearance of your precious fur baby! 🐾🥰
Hi Elly you back again lovely video ; as always I am blessed. quick but is okay. thank you Elly for always share something new. I found out new things you use sugar syprup yeay. citric acid i normally use here is make soap harder. i love it Again love to see you again
Wonderful video all around. I tried sea salt early in my soap-making life to horrible soap-on-a stick results but after watching this video I will try again, fingers crossed.
Great video, your soaps look amazing! I would love to try your scent blends in some soap. I made my first two small batches of soap 4 days ago. 4 days later, I had just enough lye to make batches 5 and 6. I have learned so much from watching alot of your videos. Especially about superfat and the water to lye ratios.
I love every single one of your videos I have watched. Thank you for teaching others and myself so much. Your behind the scenes reminded me so much of myself during the process. Its a good reminder that we all make a mess or mistakes during making these beautiful pieces of art for our skin.
You can try completely dissolving your sugar and citric acid (and salt if applicable) in your water before adding the lye. I do this method and it works well and avoids any excess water in the soap. Thanks for the video.
I enjoy watching your videos... you are an inspiration to me ... I've been making soap for quite few years (not for selling, just for me, family, gifts and fun 😊) and recently I made your recipe of pine tar soap which came out so well. I love watching your videos and yup, your kitchen is neat and clean even when you say it's messed up! I feel just like you with that proud face after you get it all done! 😄🥰 thanks for sharing! I learn a lot from you. Greetings from Rio - Brazil.
Wonderful video as always!!! I use mineral salt and sugar in my all purpose cleaning soap but not citric acid. I will use it in my next batch of body soap I have sesame and sunflower oil leftovers and since it is high summer in Greece I will get a bottle of sea water next time I go swimming and give it a try. Thank you for your recipes and tips!!
Haha, I love your furry slippers! Nice and warm... I enjoyed the video very much! It gives me energy to want to make soap again after the heatwave. I think they are gorgeous and I bet the smell is great! Thank you again, Elly! You did it again! 😍

Phew indeed!! That was an epic soap making session! Love it. And all done like a boss in your fluffies!! Brilliant. Loved the video bomb by your lovely tuxedo fur baby too. Behind the scenes is always great. I make so much mess when I make soap. You and George are always so organized and neat!! I am inspired by George too to try citric acid. A slow trace sounds like a good opportunity for an intricate design attempt. Thanks so much for a great video. Xxx Cass.

They all look so beautiful and luxurious. Love your vids and agree with everyone that says how helpful and easy to understand your informative explanations are. Your quite entertaining and soothing to listen to. And snap....I got exactly the same slippers too. lol 🤣
FYI, my kitchen looks a LOT more disorganized than yours when I make soap. LOL! I don't know why it is, but no matter how much you clean as you go, soapmaking just makes a huge mess. Thanks for the video, Elly. You make it all look so easy!
Thanks Elly, I’ve learned so much and I love how natural & down to earth you are. I’ve fallen in love with soap making and I’ve learned so much from you .. so Thank you!! I have a quick question - who is your supplier for your Aussie pink clay? I have some but seems a much lighter colour than yours and when I’ve tried to use it, it comes out so pale it’s almost a soft beige/pink. I’d like to deepen the colour but adding more clay doesn’t seem to make any difference.. would love any advice you have ?! 😊
That's so interesting KT - I'm using the same pink clay I've had for years. Had it so long I can't remember where it came from (I've put it into my own jar). It may have been from Green Living Australia. It's quite a dark pink when you look at it. I think it's very similar to the red clays I've seen. The names can be deceiving!
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking Thanks Elly.. Hmm, perhaps I need to try a red or rose coloured clay. Mine is definitely a lot light than yours.. yet still ‘pink clay’. I’ll have a look at green living too - thanks for the tip. It’s a little frustrating when it never quite turns out how I expect! Cheers Kylie 😊
Thanks for all the info Elly. The Aussie pink clay is much brighter than the French Pink clay. Do you use a different soapcalc for allowing for Citric Acid amount to add. I know George uses a different program. George loves it but I do find it a bit more difficult to navigate and I like everything lined up and close together which soapcalc does.
Hi Elly, I am new to soap making and have been watching a lot of your videos. I haven’t made my first batch yet just doing the research. Your videos are soooo informative and I LOVE them. I have a question, when it’s time to all the soaps to cure (4|6 weeks) should the soaps be stored packaged or unpacked? Meaning, do I wait until after the time to wrap or box them? Thanks
Hello Elly. You are my new bestest channel to watch. Serious, I cant thank you enough for all you teach!! You are so amazing and generous. Now that I have buttered you up, teehee. No, I am serious, you really are amazing. But I was wanting to ask a question. I just made a batch of soap. I measured out my lye and emptied that container. So I opened a new bottle of Sod. H. (so I thought) and poured the remaing amount of lye I needed for my recipe. After a week and a half, I forced my soap 0ut of the mold and it is still very soft. I have made this recipe a LOT so I was beside myself as to what the issue was. I realized the container I opened was NOT Sod. H, it was potasium hydroxide. Is my soap ruined or can I somehow save it? Thank you in advance
Ooh, great question Theri! Your soap may not be ruined, but you have accidentally made what's called a 'dual lye' soap! You'd want to research that, it might make a good cream or semi-liquid soap. You'd have to test it though to see that it's not lye heavy, they calculate differently. These two videos show the difference: How to Calculate Your Own Soap Recipes (bar - sodium hydroxide) th-cam.com/video/AqKxin0q1bM/w-d-xo.html How to Calculate Simple Liquid Soap Recipes using the Zero-Low Superfat Method (with SoapCalc demo) th-cam.com/video/dBPmh4UpoHk/w-d-xo.html
He Elly, so true so nice to see your videos and also hear you. Had a query in the second soap did u add the EO before the adding the lye? Anyway am making these soaps once the weather cools in India.
Beautiful soaps! So excited about the sea water…I live 10 minutes away from the Atlantic ocean. Do you treat the water before you use it? We have more waves here and there are possibly some undesirable micro particles in the water… any suggestions? I am jealous over those slippers by the way…
Thanks Tatiana, no I just gather the freshest water I can and store it in the fridge when I get home. If it has any visible particles in it I strain it through a coffee filter. The lye purifies it quite nicely I think. Thanks for your comment. Those slippers save my cold feet in winter!
Well, they are both types of salt (sodium chloride and sodium lactate), so they will both harden soap. I'm not sure to be honest! Sodium chloride can reduce the lather a bit if you use too much. I'm not sure about sodium lactate, I don't use it in my soaps these days. Lots of people use it to make their soap easier to unmould, but I find a water discount is the best help for that.
Love it, beautiful soaps. I was just discussing the citric acid with George from Dawn Organics today but our discussion was adding it to help with DOS when using Rice Bran Oil. Now you mention that you think it slows down trace, man I am getting into that. Did you increase your lye to counter act the citric?
Hi Christine, yes I've had many conversations with George about it too! It's amazing how it slows down the trace. Inspires me to make more swirly soaps! Yes, I definitely increased the lye to account for the citric acid. All the details are in the recipes linked in the description.
Mmm, bar soap tends to go slimy/snotty when you dissolve it in water. Check out my liquid soap videos - they are perfect for handwashing (just made differently to bar soap)
The recipe link in the description box has all the details. Lemon myrtle might be hard to get outside of Australia. Lemon balm might be a nice substitute :)
Another fabulous video I just live watching your soap videos I find olive oil soap goes mushy and gooey so I only now use your coconut oil soap recipe which makes a beautiful hard bar Can I add sugar syrup to that recipe ? Thanks Elly
Thank you Melanie, yes, you can add sugar syrup to any soap recipe, but it's not really needed for coconut oil soap as the lather there is already quite excellent!
Citric acid will eat up a bit lye, when you haven't calculated it in the recipe then your superfatting is higher than usual. This could be the reason why the soap is softer. But they are beautiful anyway 😊
Hi Elly! I love your recipe and I tried doing it. I did 2 batches but one batch got really hard and when I cut it, it cracks & crumble. I don’t know what happened but the other one is soft like the one in your video. Would you know what happened to it? I got the recipe in your website and the citric acid amount, says 8.25 grams plus the 17 gram of water you dissolve in it. Do you add all of it? I’m so confused why my 2 batches is so different from the other and the other one is completely ruined. Thank you by the way for your knowledge in soap making. I’m a fan and my friends and family loves the soaps I made for them from your tutorials.
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking maybe, that’s the only reason I can think of. I’m trying it again tonight. Let me see how it goes. Wish me luck. Can I substitute shea butter to castor oil?And one last question, should I add all the 8.25 grams citric acid mixed with 17 grams of water? So the total is 15.25 grams? Would the sugar syrup help make the soap harder? I hope I get it right this time. Looking forward to your reply and bless your good heart 🙏🏾
I go to the ocean once a year for a holiday, and I collect sea water there. It's not necessary, but I enjoy using it. Salt adds hardness to the soap bars.
I’m wondering your opinion about lye quality and if different brands of lye affect how a soap reacts and / or turns out? I recently changed lye brands and have noticed some anomalies in my recipe reactions. For example, I have one recipe (hot process) volcano which I haven’t experienced before. I’m wondering if it could be the change in lye.
Great question Honey, yes, I would say that different quality lyes might affect the soap, but unless one is more concentrated (which it shouldn't be, or at least you should know that it is), they shouldn't cause volcanoes. The most common cause of volcanoes are too high heat/temps, and/or too high sugars in the recipe.
I hope you can make something clear for me 🙏🏻 When you are making your lye solution, can you make it in a stainless steel pot or a “5” plastic container? And if so, assuming you have your oils and butters melted in a stainless steel pot, can you pour the lye solution into that container once mixed? I see people using plastic containers for both the lye solution, for just the oils, and for them mixed together. I’m just trying to figure out what is safe and what isn’t for all three parts of the process - making lye solution, melting/holding oils and butters, pouring lye solution in the oils/butters.
Great question!!! Yes, you can use either stainless steel or PP plastic for any and/or all stages of the process :) I use plastic jugs and saucepans, depending on what I feel like on the day. You don't need a third container for mixing the soap, just pour the lye water into the container with the melted oils, in whatever pot they are in! (just not aluminium).
I find soap making totally overwhelming.. there are soooo many ingredients.. and I have no idea what any of them do.. or how much to buy to start off, I cook a lot, bake my own bread, make my own clothes, knit and crochet and embroider., but I wld like to try., Do you sell any of yr soap,,?? Or do u have a beginners kit..? Coz honestly, I am v unfamiliar with all these products! I currently buy soaps from a woman in Texas but I wld love to source some Australian perfumes eg Lemon myrtle and others from somewhere local.. I live in Point Lonsdale by the sea so I’ve got plenty of salt water!
Hi, yes I understand. This video is not really geared for beginners and the recipes are more complex than I usually make. I don't sell any of my soap, but if you want a really basic beginner recipe I can recommend an easy castile soap like this one th-cam.com/video/MzDZts9hjKw/w-d-xo.html It has just one oil, water and lye. Very simple. This page would help you get started too. Soap making doesn't have to be complicated www.ellyseveryday.com/the-what-and-how-of-soap-making

FYI, my kitchen looks a LOT more disorganized than yours when I make soap. LOL! I don't know why it is, but no matter how much you clean as you go, soapmaking just makes a huge mess. Thanks for the video, Elly. You make it all look so easy!
Thanks Janie, I always clean as I go. Makes it a lot easier!
Hiya Ty my fr8end, u can add critic acid to seawater first before the lye let it dissolve and then add your lye. Just FIY
I calculate my citric acid manually. Here's my method www.ellyseveryday.com/ellys-everyday-blog/how-to-use-citric-acid-in-soap-making
I much appreciated! Please, are the essential oils' aromas staying in the soap after the cure period?
It depends on the EO's you used. Some last better than others.
Pretty pastels!
Yes they are, thanks T!
Hi Elly,
I am new to soap making and have been watching a lot of your videos.

These two videos show the difference:
How to Calculate Your Own Soap Recipes (bar - sodium hydroxide) th-cam.com/video/AqKxin0q1bM/w-d-xo.html
How to Calculate Simple Liquid Soap Recipes using the Zero-Low Superfat Method (with SoapCalc demo) th-cam.com/video/dBPmh4UpoHk/w-d-xo.html
I wish I had a friend that made me soap 😂They look and sound amazing
Thank you. It's such a lovely thing to share :)
You are amazing! You make beautiful soaps. Do you have a recipe book. It’s hard to follow on you tube! Thank you.
Oh thank you for asking me this, I would like to make printables for my recipes soon, or a book!
Elly - do you share the essential oil combo needed to create the 'Straddie Soleseife EO? It sounds wonderful and tempting.
I share a version of it here :) th-cam.com/video/_MDNpUP9hLY/w-d-xo.html
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking Thanks so much, ordering the EO and micas now
Really enjoyed that thankyou 😊
Thank you, I'm happy to hear that :)
He Elly, so true so nice to see your videos and also hear you. Had a query in the second soap did u add the EO before the adding the lye?
Anyway am making these soaps once the weather cools in India.
Hi Joya, thanks! Yes I think I did for that one.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE VIDEO !!! I HAVE A QUESTION WHAT WERE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE LYE AND OILS WHEN YOU BLEND???
It depends on the recipe. This video explains th-cam.com/video/Tm2tq1hp6AY/w-d-xo.html
Wonderful video 👍 thanks for sharing, can I use salt to harden soap instead of sodium lactate, which one is better?
Can you use the trimmings to make like a liquid hand soap or something? (Obviously I’ve never made soap in my life…but, I’d like to one day.)
Mmm, bar soap tends to go slimy/snotty when you dissolve it in water. Check out my liquid soap videos - they are perfect for handwashing (just made differently to bar soap)
What is the Straddie essential oil blend? Also where do you get the Lemon Myrtle essential oil. I have a very hard time getting it
The recipe link in the description box has all the details. Lemon myrtle might be hard to get outside of Australia. Lemon balm might be a nice substitute :)
Another fabulous video
I just live watching your soap videos
I find olive oil soap goes mushy and gooey so I only now use your coconut oil soap recipe which makes a beautiful hard bar
Can I add sugar syrup to that recipe ?
Thanks Elly
Thank you Melanie, yes, you can add sugar syrup to any soap recipe, but it's not really needed for coconut oil soap as the lather there is already quite excellent!
Is the water you use to dissolve the citric acid part of the water that you are using to dissolve the lye?
Hi Elly Sue from gold coast again could you tell me please how do u get the fragrance oil to stay in the finished soap the smell I mean thanks
Some FO's don't last, some do. Finding ones that stick is the key! Storing your soap somewhere enclosed with moisture absorbers helps too :)
Amazing, Elly! Thank you very much for sharing. Xoxo, Marcela from Mexico City.
Thank you Marcela! You're very welcome :)

Hi👋lovely soap, love your videos all the times
Thanks so much Katie :)
Citric acid will eat up a bit lye, when you haven't calculated it in the recipe then your superfatting is higher than usual. This could be the reason why the soap is softer. But they are beautiful anyway 😊
Hi, I did increase the lye to account for the citric acid. See the recipe details linked in the description box - all that info is there :)
Great soap recipe 😊 why did you add citric acid in soap?
www.ellyseveryday.com/ellys-everyday-blog/how-to-use-citric-acid-in-soap-making
Hey Elly. Would you know how much % lemon myrtle goes in soap ?
Thanks!
Thank you so much Grace!
Oh gosh Eyrel, I'm not sure what happened there! Any chance you mis-measured something?
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking maybe, that’s the only reason I can think of. I’m trying it again tonight. Let me see how it goes. Wish me luck. Can I substitute shea butter to castor oil?And one last question, should I add all the 8.25 grams citric acid mixed with 17 grams of water? So the total is 15.25 grams? Would the sugar syrup help make the soap harder? I hope I get it right this time. Looking forward to your reply and bless your good heart 🙏🏾
Hi Elly can you please tell me why do you use seawater for making lye water?
I go to the ocean once a year for a holiday, and I collect sea water there. It's not necessary, but I enjoy using it. Salt adds hardness to the soap bars.
👋 Ben 🇹🇷.Sizi izliyor, çok teşekkür.İngilizcem yok.Teşekkür👍🙏🧿👏🇹🇷
Where do you get your pink clay Elly? It's so pretty😍
I think I got it from Green Living Australia - years ago.
oh thankyou!! @@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
Hello! I have a question..do you ever use 98% NAOH in your soap making? Or just 100%? I cannot find this in my country..Thank you!❤
I’m wondering your opinion about lye quality and if different brands of lye affect how a soap reacts and / or turns out?
I find soap making totally overwhelming..
there are soooo many ingredients.. and I have no idea what any of them do.. or how much to buy to start off,
I cook a lot, bake my own bread, make my own clothes, knit and crochet and embroider., but I wld like to try.,
Do you sell any of yr soap,,??
