the greatest thing about youtube moto vids are the comments of people with their 1990 yz80 that they cud ride WAYYY rougher tracks with at twice the speed of which the rider in the video is going. like just shut ur faces and enjoy the riding of a man well above ur own skill level
It's awesome to see a rider with such great feeling on the bike. Suspension is always the hardest part of testing but the most beneficial. Not many youtubers can ride as good as well as describe the changes as you do. Keep up the good work!
Nice video. Thanks for taking us to these epic spots. Come to europe to see tracks that have not been maintained in a long time.... this looks super flat. 😎
First off...great riding...so fluid! I'm guessing you have "image stabilization" turned on? People will not be able to tell how rough it is with it on...the cameras naturally fatten out terrain anyway but with the stabilization setting on the camera...makes it look deceivingly smooth. I'm just an old super noob but I turned it off so folks could see some of the violence that happens when you ride. Great video and riding!
That's the track I learned to ride on. It's also the track my bar risers failed on creating whiskey throttle resulting in a torn rotator cuff but if you can ride LAZY you can ride ANYTHING! You know it's a tough SOB when Jeff Walker isn't pinned 1/2 the time. For all of it's faults, in the summer when it's raining every day this place handles the rain and will be open when all others are closed.
When Looking at roughness on a GoPro video, you have to look at the movements of the bike, not just the track. Honestly, to me this looks like a standard Scandinavian track, on a week day. Tho, tracks in the us seems to be much flatter then in Europe as standard.
TrollMaster300 yea, those kind of people got to much air. With my comment, I wasn’t saying it wasn’t rough, I just was just saying that’s standard scandi rough.
I've only ridden Miami MX park but going to check this one out soon. Looks like in a few spots if you F up, you're gonna end in the water lol. How is it comparison to Miami MX? Most the time Miami is overcrowded but they do a fair job managing it from my experience.
Thats crazy your right by me. Im in punta gorda/port Charlotte area. No bike anymore though had to go safer route and got a jetski. Plan on getting another one though.
Thanks Carter! It's the new GoPro Hero 7 Black Edition shot in 2.7k, 30fps, superview fov, and with hyper smooth enabled. I just use iMovie for editing.
The front end twitch will be interesting to see what works to resolve. I've spoken with yoshimura and they don't recommend baffle removal... HRC bikes run baffles.
Interesting! I'll have to look into it. I can't imagine it makes a huge difference, but i'm sure Yoshimura and HRC know what's best haha. Thanks for the continued support!
Really appreciate your Videos! Are u using any griptape on the airbox? On rougher tracks beeing hard on the throttle, my ass hardly touches the seat. I always try gripping the bike (yzf 250 2017) with my gaerne sg12 boots but i cant find any good grip on the side plastic covers... and then im fully exausted after like 13 mins full throttle... Im trying to find any grip tape that doesnt destroy my boots that much. Would be cool if u could share some experiences. Greetings from Germany, Nueremberg!
Dude, you can ride!!! U need to make your way over to Australia one day and race one of the biggest sand races in the country, The HATTAH desert race, you would kill it. by the way, you bike looks and sounds awesome , even on video. Great description on changes made too.
Thanks man! Traveling the world to race dirt bikes has always been the dream. I'd love to head to Australia some day, and if the opportunity ever presents itself, i'll be there in a heart beat for sure!
You ride very well. How tall are you? What Renthal bar mount is is? Ricky High? Just curious, because at ^-foot-2 I have to mod my bike to make me fit on it as well. Thanks for vids! Thay are great!
I'm 6'1" and I'm running the Renthal 839 bend that come stock on the Honda. My usual bar is the ProTaper YZ High bend, I just haven't switched it out yet.
Man i just moved next to this track.just got another crf450 few a weeks ago so havent had a chance to ride this track yet.. anyway nice vids need more like em.
Most of the tracks in florida are pretty sandy and rough like this. Hard rock in ocala is all hard pack clay from a old quarry but that place is straight dangerous. Rocks the size of baseballs laying everywhere, all blind jumps on clay that's hard as concrete. Tires will actually squeal while braking
GoPro needs to hit you up for their promo footage lol what settings are you using as far as ProTune or colors? Definitely subbing. Excellent riding and explanations! Jealous Iowa has winter 😒
In my opinion, KTM and Honda are not trying to accomplish the same goals with their Factory/Works Editions...KTM uses their Factory Edition to make improvements that they'll use on the next year production bikes such as frame and engine revisions. A standard 2019 will be almost identical to the 2018 Factory Edition which kind of makes it pointless to spend the extra cash on the FE unless you REALLY want those Redbull graphics. There's nothing exclusive on the FE that you can't buy the next year. Don't get me wrong, if you're going to buy the seat cover, clutch cover, and exhaust anyways then it's a great deal! What I like about the Honda Works Edition is that you're getting exclusive parts like the HRC ported head and mapping as well as a custom Yoshimura exhaust that you can't buy on your own. You're also getting the Kashima-coated suspension which you can technically buy, but must be shipped to Germany in order to get done. Honda's WE is a proper race bike whereas KTM's FE is just a blinged-up stock bike.
Nice video. I was there once about 5 years ago and the track was shorter and the jumps were all eroded. Looks much better now. Have they expanded the trails any?
It's a custom mount I made using a spare Bell Helmet mouth piece, a standard GoPro flat mount, and some JB Weld. I basically just stuck the mount on the front of the mouth piece using the sticky backing, and then threw some JB Weld to fill in all the gaps where the mount wasn't touching anything. I posted some picture in this thread on VitalMX www.vitalmx.com/forums/Moto-Related,20/Honda-CRF450R-Works-Edition-First-Ride-Impressions,1349475
I race in the professional outdoor championship during the summers, and pros aren't allowed to race Mini-O's since it's an amateur national. I always loved racing there as an amateur though!
Did you have to drop the forks in the triple clamps at all? I just dropped the forks a couple mm's on my 17 and that helped me a lot, you're at a much higher skill level tho
It would be appreciated if you could make a video that summarizes the changes and adjustments made to your CRF450r to compare our setup with yours. I do not want to spend for a revalve of my suspensions because I have the impression that the company have not yet tested the 2019 bikes so I think that helping each other between owners would be nice. In addition, Here the season is finished until April because of the winter so I could not test the bike.
Hey man I have a regular 18 450. How tall are you? I’m having the same front end issue but I don’t have the handlebars that you have if that helps at all. Your videos on this bike have helped me out because the 18 isn’t that different. The constant changes then seeing how it rides immediately is very helpful for me because it’s winter time and I can’t go test settings.
Hey John, glad you're liking the videos and finding them useful! I'm 6'1". I've always hated the Renthal 971 bend bars that came stock on the Hondas (I assume you have these on your bike) and I used to switch those out immediately. Something about that bend really did NOT gel with me and it always felt awkward. My favorite Renthal bend was always the 999 McGrath/Short bend. It's really low, flat, and wide so you get great control and stabilization over the front end. A ton of pros run that bend! Obviously the 2019 range switched things up with the 839 fat bar coming stock, so I decided to give it a try and i'm actually digging them so far! It has very similar specs to the 999 that I love, but they're about 10mm taller and slightly narrower. Anyways, my first suggestion to anyone who's struggling with front end instability is to make sure your bars aren't rolled too far forward. For reference, I always start with my bars perfectly in line with the angle of the forks and go from there. 99% of the time, I end up rolling them back slightly from there until I find the sweet spot where the front end stops twitching.
Jeff Walker Im also 6’1 and prefer the 999 over any other bar. This was video was super sick by the way! I’m new to your channel and was curious if you’ve had past models of the CRF? I recently sold my 2017 crf and was wondering if the 19 was any better than the 17.
It's possible! I'm 6'1" and don't run any risers, but its all about your style and what makes you comfortable. Canard is short and runs really tall bars. Deano is tall with low bars. All about personal preference! I like to get really low and aggressive, so the lower bars suit my style better. But if you have more of a Musquin style (upright and technical) then tall bars are a good route.
@@JeffWalker84 I was at the track yesterday and I felt when I gave it full throttle my wrist was like bent under the grip and when I moved my wrist to a higher angle, I felt like I was on top of the grip and not "in" it if any of that makes sense. I think im going to give the risers a go.
