    Spartanburg has some little known amazing history. A few things: it is where the words to the song Amazing Grace were set to music, where the first college football game in SC was played, where the sound of dial up Internet was invented. Spartanburg’s airport, which was the first airport in the state, had the first female air traffic controller in the state in the late 1940’s, Martin Luther King’s uncle was pastor of a church in Spartanburg and Martin Luther King’s first airplane flight was to Spartanburg to preach at his uncle’s church after finishing college. The British band, Pink Floyd, got the Pink part of their name from a Spartanburg musician. The Pardo Stone dating from 1567 found in Spartanburg Co. is the oldest European relic in SC. The first organization in SC devoted to women’s suffrage (right to vote) was founded in Spartanburg. Spartanburg was the first city in SC to be named a bicycle friendly city by the American Bicyclists Association.

    You may or may not like it. After 3 months I knew it had nothing for me. Work wise the pay is garbage, the cost of living isn’t great, the people are fine, they just don’t want to know you or want you here, but they’ll be polite about it. There’s crime, but it seems to be mostly in certain areas. As far as goods and services or construction, people here will hire the cheapest person even if it bites them. I’m still trying to figure out what makes them tick here, I guess family. The fishing is awful unless you don’t know any better. You need to rent here before buying, because there’s a chance I am right and you will hate it. Oh and expect to pay big time at the dmv if you bring car here, there’s a mandatory $250 fee for that plus property taxes on it then the registration. I am 100 percent va disabled and they tell you you’re tax exempt, but you have to jump through hoops, instead of them just looking at the letter of proof you have in hand. Then they deny that because you’re not 100 percent permanent and total, total bs just to seem pro veteran. I ended up paying over 2500 to register two cars and a trailer. Most people here I imagine lie about the value of these autos and trailers, but I don’t believe that is moral. Remember when you watch these videos, you’re watching a video from somebody who makes money off selling houses in that area. Is it beautiful here, yeah it pretty, in the fall and spring, winters are gloomy and cold. It’s affordable for a reason, do your due diligence or you’ll get stuck somewhere that has nothing for you.

    My wife and I are thinking of relocating. Greer seems very nice and we may be coming down in a week or so to look around. Are there areas that the houses are on at least a 1/2 acre of land that are in the low 300's?

      @@originalk9111I live in Maine (not from here) I can't wait to move to upstate SC. Maine isn't just cold, it has a lot of ticks, black flies, mosquitoes, etc... Also, lack of jobs, very high taxes, too liberal for me, and high priced homes for how outdated most of them are.
      The pros are: low population, low traffic, beautiful fall colors, lots of lakes, and a pretty coastline.

    The 37,000 city population is misleading because South Carolina has strict annexation laws. The urban population of Spartanburg is closer to 200,000.

      Like all cities, Spartanburg sees occasional spikes in crime. The city’s crime report for 2022 which is posted on TH-cam shows that the overall crime rate has been declining for a number of years. Most of the older high crime public housing projects in the city have been demolished or remodeled. Spartanburg was was the first city in upstate SC to establish a homeless court and the first to hold a gun buyback. It has held 2 gun buybacks. A new city police police headquarters is under construction and there are plans to implement gunshot detection technology in the city. The police department and the county sheriff’s department are accredited. I was born and raised in Spartanburg and have lived here for most of my life. I would say that overall the city is safe.

    Right off the top, I Googled Spartanburg and saw the crime statistics. WOW!! I know your response is "choose your area", but, what if you have to leave "your area", go the the doctor, shopping etc. Wouldn't I be a potential crime victim. I would rather move to a SAFER area. If the crime is this bad now, I can only imagine it will only get worst, then real estate prices will drop like a stone along with your equity/savings.
    I understand that you are a real estate agent and your role is to convince people to buy your houses, but it would be more ethical to announce the crime rate FIRST, WOULDN'T IT? REALLY SEEMED LIKE YOU WERE TRYING TO HIDE THIS FACT

    • @aubree_lewis
      @aubree_lewis  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not trying to hide it at all. And, I think many of the people who live in Spartanburg would disagree with your assessment here. I help people move to the area multiple times a month. It’s very to say ALL OF SPARTANBURG IS TERRIBLE AND HAD AWFUL CRIME BECAUSE THE INTERNET SAID SO!!!!……when it’s just not the truth. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I go to many Doctor appointments in Spartanburg and have worked in the area in a previous profession and never had a problem. As well as some of my best friends live in the area and have children in the schools. It would be unethical of me to scream how terrible this place is when it simply is not. The art scene is beautiful, the community culture is growing and strong. And it all gets overshadowed because a crime rate says it’s bad. It’s honestly so sad that people won’t do more research into the area because the internet says how awful it is. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @orgrichard
      @orgrichard 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Spartanburg reports all of its crime to the FBI database which not all cities do. I am a Spartanburg native and long time resident and I never had a problem going wherever I needed to go. I have delivered Meals on Wheels in some of the rougher areas of the city. Most crime in Spartanburg is property crime. Violent crime usually involves people who know each other and doesn’t pose a threat to the general public. A fair amount of crime is committed by repeat offenders whom the legal system should have kept incarcerated. In a recent incident, a man wanted for armed robbery in Spartanburg had 20 outstanding warrants in Spartanburg Co and 45 outstanding warrants in Greenville Co. I would say that anyone planning to visit or move to Spartanburg has little to fear. But, of course, anything can happen. Lewiston, ME had been named one of the safest cities in America prior to the recent mass shootings there. Spartanburg is addressing crime in a number of ways; community policing, upgrading police technology, a homeless court and gun buybacks. A new city police headquarters recently opened. Spartanburg recently broke ground on a new baseball stadium downtown. This is expected to provide an economic boost to the downtown and create job opportunities for a nearby depressed area that has a history of high crime.

    Ik it's your job, so no hard feelings. Watching this gentrification call to action video is so strange as someone from here. I liked the list being "The pros are it's cheap and "up and coming," the cons are literally everything else."
    The traffic due to commuters who don't bring jobs to the city, that's a big red flag. That's called gentrification. smh.

      A reliable source of information about crime in SC is the SLED State crime report, the 2023 report having just been released. The report doesn’t show Spartanburg’s crime rate to have been the highest in the state in any category. The city of Spartanburg once sued Neighborhood Scout for publishing crime statistics for the city based on data drawn from a larger area than the city which inflated the statistics. The Spartanburg city police department is one of very few in the state that has implemented Real Time Crime Technology. Local governments in SC are limited in what they can do about gun violence because of state law.

    Have trained yourself by practicing in the mirror to show all your teeth and keep a giant toothy smile constantly while speaking?
