Did this fix your shudder? I did this last year on a 250k mile FJ and it worked great for about 2 weeks. Then I was shuddering more than before. Two tubes of shudder fix made the difference. And if that solution fades i'll have to look at the cost of a torque converter service or replacement.
I will have to see over the long term. My thought is to do this every oil change and see if it holds up. Otherwise, I have the shudder fix waiting on stand-by! I will report back in 6 months or so. I wanted to do this first and see if it stays alive. I do have a short video out to just avoid the shudder by avoiding drive until 40-50 mph so there is that!
Your process has worked for a lot of guys dealing with the shudder. I hope it works for you long term. I'll watch for the updates. Thank you sir. @@QuantiQualification
@@zee_nyc I've had a shudder about 3 or 4 different times when first driving in the morning that lasted a few seconds. But that has been it over the last year. The first was a couple months ago. So we'll see if it gets more frequent.
There is something called flex lock in these transmissions which is the torque converter locking and unlocking rapidly. The fluid has to be just right for the shudder not to be there.
I never had shudder before I recently changed out my trans fluid/pan/filter/gasket. Now I am having shudder at 20-40mph. Goes away once I'm over 40mph. I have an '07 auto tranny FJ at 324k miles. Please tell me I didn't mess up my transmission when I did the change out.
First, immediately start doing this th-cam.com/users/shortsfGamNXmtU-c Then some quick questions. Did it start immediately following the fluid change? Did you use Toyota ATF-WS? Are you certain that the fluid level is correct as per the video this comment is attached to?
@@QuantiQualification so I changed the fluid/pan/filter/gasket right before a road trip, I drove her 600 miles and when I got to my destination I started to notice a shudder between 15-30mph. I thought maybe I didn’t have enough fluid, so I went to toyota and got more ATF, filled up about 1qt, got it into fluid temp check mode, pulled the overflow and a little less than .5qt came out. I thought that solved it. Fast forward 2 months and I am now having even worse shudder but now it’s at 20-40mph. I did use toyota ATF-WS. I had someone ride along with me and said it might be a wheel bearing going bad and that the timing right after the fluid change is just coincidental.
@flynnpaige8089 You should be able to verify immediately if it goes away when you are in 4th instead of Drive. If it goes away, you have shudder. If not, it is something else. After you confirm that it is torque converter lockup shudder, and if all else fails, you can use 1-2 bottles of "Instant Shudder Fixx". I have not personally used it but have heard that it does work. It does not sound like you did anything untoward to cause this. The flex lockup of the torque converter is rather peculiar and prone to shudder.
@@QuantiQualificationOkay, I will try this and get back to you. I was worried when I changed out the fluid because of the age of my vehicle and mileage, but I was having some sticky gears so I thought it would help. Bummed that it has caused more problems. Thanks for your advice and I’ll let you know how it goes!
