I just think manufacturers are taking advantage of the situation far too much at the moment.
7 years ago you could get a 7.5m coach built for £37k, now a 5.7 compact is over £60k and not even a proper bathroom.
Great review, it showed the shortcomings for us all as well as the good bits

Pocket change compared to the US, where a basic campervan based on the 6.36 Promaster (same as Ducato) starts at $120,000 and goes up to $180,000 with full options - and even over $200,000 for Sprinter based adventure vans. And yes, people are buying them.

@@liorajacob8094Sounds like a case of, everything`s bigger and better in the US. If mugs are happy to pay that, good for them.

Love the layout and even the shower arrangement wouldn't bother me too much. It looks like the competition could be the hymer blue evolution. I would want a pop up roof fitted to this model as my preference.

Very thorough review, thank you, Peter. You covered the van very thoroughly. I wish though you had shown us the roof view and the innards of the electrical set up. This is of great interest to me, to see how the electrical and plumbing layout is done in Europe, where they store the tanks, what the plumbing looks like, and especially what electrical components they use for an inverter (size), battery monitor, solar charger, solar panels, second alternator, generator, and where they are stored in the van. While it may seem daunting to cover this as a lay person not familiar with electrical components, or van building, I can assure you it is very easy to understand. Once you do, your reviews will gain depth and a wider audience. Amateur van builders like me, will flock to your channel. We are curious about how it is done across the pond.
So this fridge is a compressor model, not a gas run absorption model. I wonder how many solar panels and batteries it takes to power this fridge. It would help us a lot to know. I am here to learn about Euro/UK techno advances in the power grid for vans. Do they do something better than the US?
One area I was very interested in: portable composting toilets. With Italian and French flair for design, and German engineering, there should be some very avant-garde toilet options. The composting toilet consists of a large funnel or 'Separette' directing #1 into a small collection jug in front, while a bucket with sawdust collects #2 in rear. There is no water needed to flush, no black waste tank to empty, the toilet is not a fixed unit but can be used anywhere. There are no polluting chemicals. To empty, one simply pours the jug out into a public toilet or onto trees as urea fertilizer, and the bucket liner is closed up and deposited into a public trash bin. The US made toilets are prohibitively pricey at $1000+ for plastic. They are bulky and poorly designed. I could make my own of course, but it is very educational to see what is being constructed in Europe, especially Germany. I had a glimpse of one such toilet briefly, cannot find the video. I would love to see some models featured on your channel. There is a HUGE demand for them here in the US.
On the same theme, it would be profitable for you to review the composting toilets, and other small 'mods' (modifications or gadgets) made to 'Euro vans, such as the mechanisms for dining tables, loft beds, folding seats, tambour doors, and multi-tasking furniture.
    1. Euro dining tables fold out with a hinge, are height adjustable, and rotate on an axis, and can slide on a track. Show us what is underneath and how it works. I know where to get the parts in the US, but curious to see UNDERNEATH the table, a view that is never shown in RV tours.
    2. Swing down beds over the cab driver area have a massive hinge mechanism. How does this work? What are the hinges attached to in the vehicle to support the weight of 2 moving bodies on them. What holds it up over the Lounge area? I love this bed concept, it is a magical solution to small vans, but still remains a mystery. I'd love to know how this works. Please show us!!!
    3. Loft bed on linear actuators that come down over the Lounge area. Please discuss this in greater detail. Show us the slides. What are they attached to? Can we buy the mechanism from the makers? Not the bed, but the linear actuators and bed frame? What is the weight limit on these?
You review the whole motorhome, but what about some videos on gadgets that are new? Show us how they work. That would be so interesting! Thanks for listening.

Great review Peter and what a great van. Would definitely take a look at the 6m version. The only challenges (apart from the general availability of all new vans) is that I don’t think there are any Laika dealers in the South/East at all. Shame as it’s a lovely van.

It has all the features necessary to me, 2010, 83k miles, toured all Spain & France in 3 years 80% full-time. And all for £15k.

    • @MotorhomeCampervan
      @MotorhomeCampervan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Since we tested the Ecovip much of the extra spec has been included into the Da Vinci pack. However, prices have also risen (on all makes) quite rapidly, so, if you're interested in this model, it's best to check current pricing (including options) with a dealer, such as Camper UK who supplied this one.

Making a big issue of 'aluminium backed' insulation should of course be taken with a large pinch of salt, as anyone who has researched insulation at all, knows that in order for any 'reflective' insulation element to lend any benefit at all, it needs to be combined with a good sized air gap, otherwise it just 'conducts' heat.

    • @peterv3642
