Peter always bring brilliant reviews, comprehensive and true to the way people will use the campervan / motorhome. Thanks again.
Many thanks! Comments like this make all the work worthwhile
Totally agree. Peter’s reviews are the best
@@teaforthree1absolutely, I always save the videos for the weekend
Brilliant honest review,Peter. Looks near perfect for my activities-walking/fishing.Will be having a serious look at this. Looks good value for money. Keep up the good work 👍
What are "automotive looks"?
That's the best new camper I've seen for a while.
Thanks for the review. appreciated
Glad it was helpful! Don't forget to like and subscribe please!
Perfect van for 1 person, ie, me 😂. Very nice, i'd love it. Great review, great price for these days!
Thanks for watching. Hope you've subscribed
Yes, better for solo vanners
Great features, twin rotating front seats, rear bench slides fully forward. The 7 seat option is a great idea. I think most people would leave all seats in the car and only remove them for camping trips, because they take up quite a bit of space in your garage otherwise.
That’s such a cool little camper I could imagine using this a lot compared to a larger camper van , lovely location and presentation!
Thanks for your comments
Great review as always Peter. Gotta say the van is very impressive and superb value, especially in today’s market. 👍🏻
Yes, the value here is top notch
This is very similar to our self converted Tourneo. The infotainment system is very sensitive to moisture - not perfect in a camper in winter. However, we’ve found the heavy tinted windows brilliant for discreet living without constantly closing curtains. We have curtains, not stick on blinds, but these would be a simple addition. An after market cab curtain is a must! Not sure if this will be a DVLA registered camper, but our Tourneo can do 70mph on A roads as it’s a people carrier, not a van like the Transit.
As it has Whole Vehicle Type Approval it'll be registered as a Motor Caravan
We woudl agree, we have the Transit Tourneo, in fact we've had several. Many trip to the Alps fully laden at 130kph+ (80mph). Awesome products, with unbelieveable interior space when compared to an SUV for example.
Brilliant review as normal peter, Thanks. Fantastic for a family and its layout and versatility for a daily driver is incredible. Downsides (Wet belt, i would need a decent warranty-lots of historical problems and expensive servicing/repair) and it would be nice to have a bigger engine option for hauling a family.. A great little van and great value for money 👍🏻
Thanks for your supportive comments!
cool review! thanks! i will still buy the T6.1 California 4WD
The T6.1 California is a really great camper (I used to own a T5 version), but it's a lot more expensive than this
@MotorhomeCampervan you get what you say for.
I’ve got a two year old Custom that I’ve had serviced twice by Ford Mobile Service. I asked both technicians when in their opinion the wet belt should be changed. Both said 50k miles, and change the oil every 10k with the correct grade of Castrol I.e 0w30 or 5w30. Hope this helps.
Good advice
Think of the profit margin when the T7 Transporter comes out (hint: it's the same van with different headlights, bonnet, and grille). They could just add £14k for the VW badge. Or will customers realise what's going on?
Good point.
Of course Transporter owners know about the new collaboration. Some will be happy to buy a Transit and pocket a few quid, others will want a VW regardless of its new found Turkish heritage and the discerning owners will buy the last 6.1’s or keep their German built Transporters.
Of course they do and VW just lost its new van customer base for good as the Tranny is worse the newer they get, they should have made a new Vw and put a ford badge on that instead but that’s American motors all over Fiat/Citroen/Peugeot vans are all the same with engine and spec differences, the Fiat gets sold as a Chrysler in the states or dodge so does the sprinter is sold in the states as another badge at least the MAN Vw crafter is actually a vw
Oh yes they’ll realise. VW have made a massive mistake. Good for Renault though. Trafic, the new Transporter.
The one thing that would put me off any Ford Transit based conversion is the 'wet-belt' engines. They are well known to be a major problem
Less so, it seems, on motorhomes and if servicing is done on time
@@MotorhomeCampervan TBH that’s not strictly true. They fail regardless of mileage or service history. Often vehicles that have stood with the belt in oil in one place for a while (like campers) snap
Ford or VW are both vans built in a time of high tech and extensive knowledge. Despite this they both make unreliable and expensive to maintain mobile problems - where is the progress - just some fancy touch screen dash in real terms , these vans are only viable when still in warranty and neither has the confidence to give a decent warranty because they know how often and soon they fail .
@@orange1666 No problems with my T6, which seems very well made compared with other vans
So how many wet belt Transits have you had that have failed?, I run a fleet of hire vans including Nine wet belt Transits, none of which have had engine problems except two that had minor injector faults that were easily and quickly sorted by Ford. Or is your "experience" based on stuff you've read online?
I have a similar size van. I can get no longer length on my front garden. Paid 17k for my Renault trafic pop top. Has all the same features with a diesel heater and much better solar system and two leisure batteries and two lithiums and two inverters etc etc etc. personally i wouldn't pay that much and have no toilet/shower
Presumably you bought a much older secondhand van?
Nice review, keep them coming! 😊
Will do. Hope you've subscribed?
@@MotorhomeCampervan Yes, long time ago.
@@TheFastestSrbin Thank you!
The water filling point has been fitted on the wonk!
This looks like great value and decent spec. Will you review the P57 version?
Value on that seems amazing! I agree with all the points you make Peter, less tint, ditch the silver screens, better lighting and maybe improve the table stowage. The overall however, especially on a new and automotive chassis looks really great, I wonder if it’ll stay at that price point for long?
I'd get in quick if you want one at this price, just to be sure!
Another enjoyable review 👍
But that Panama will only win my money if it was the 2024 PHEV Transit, the PHEVs 14 KWh battery & standard 16 amp power take off built-in ability to power all motorhome living cooking and AC electric heating whilst self charging from the engine when stationary , would work great for off grid adventures 😎
( No need for gas bottles or additional leasure battery / Inverter )
Please do a review of the 2024 PHEV Transit Panama motorhome
when available 🙏
p.s. Ford made the square steering wheel to practically feature a clip on table / office work surface option 🤔
Your transformer square wheel Idea would work great anti theft device 🤠👍
Actually, this pair remind me of the Randger campers of 4 or 5 years ago; also by trigano (I think?) but only available at Marquis. The Panama p57 is a very similar layout to the Randger 54 which I went to look at. Sadly I thought it very cheap and plasticy and putting the downstairs bed together - wow! I'm hoping we get to see you review the p57 soon as it looks much better quality from what I can see on youtube. The p57 also has full blinds and a more nugget-like downstairs bed.
Looking forward to the nugget review as well!!
The Randger 54 had one of the most complicated beds I've ever seen. The Panama is better quality and I look forward to seeing the P57, which looks really interesting.
Nice episode..thanks. 😊
Glad you liked it
What a brilliant review. Peter, you are so good at this
Love the fact that everything is included, great spec and in todays climate great value
Two reservations. Good for a solo traveller, for a couple using the upper bed is essential due to small bed sizes. Problem for us oldies.
My main reservation is it’s a Ford. Poor reliability, poor longevity. Wish it were on a Renault Trafic, but hell, lot if van for the money.
The Ford is still the best selling vehicle in the UK, so maybe that exaggerates the issue?
Now that is an excellent value and very well thought camper van. Most 2 m height barriers have al least 100mm of extra height so you can probably still get under. It needs some solar though. Has it got a leisure battery
Leisure battery is 90Ah
Excellent information, yet again,Peter. Will they be bringing out different colours?
Not for the first year at least - white only, I'm afraid. You could always get it wrapped?
That is a damn fine campervan
Another first class video - thank you. Just a couple of points :- I noticed that you manually released the electronic parking brake. On my Ford it disengages automatically when the accelerator is pressed. The full spec shows only cold water. Does it not has hot water like the larger model ?
Cold water only in the P12
Another excellent, balanced review. Will you be reviewing the long wheel version as that one does look so different?
Yes, I think so. The P57 looks very interesting!
Excellent 7 seater campervan. Any others on the market with this option? Can you have this P12 in the long wheelbase version or that has to be a P57?
P12 is SWB only. The City Camp by Dreamer can be a six-seater. Many HemBil models from CMC Reimo can be six or seven-seaters
A brand new Ford Nugget that i was booked to view at a dealer`s in January, was £49,995. OTR.
Had to cancel, as i was let down on my Transporter conversion sale. In 2 days it had gone. 😪
£49k!!! Are you sure that's right? List price was about £75k
@@MotorhomeCampervan It`s the reason i put mine up for sale, (50K) i think it was a low for things at that time. But didn`t get it, so hay ho.
But it seems things aren`t great for dealers now, from what i`m reading.
The heritage railway must be the East Devon Railway. The locomotive that just passed looked just like Pitchford Hall. I last saw her at the Epping Ongar Railway last year.
It's actually the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway which runs from Broadway to Cheltenham Racecourse!
Spot on! Gloucestershire & Warwickshire
My Motor Home based on a transit had a very usable heated screen does this van have one?
From memory, I think so but Marquis would be able to confirm
Do Panama have plans to base the camper on Ford’s EV version of the van? With electric heating and cooking, plus larger Lithium battery.
I doubt it, the EV van would have niche appeal and a high price. Some hybrid Transit Customs seem to be coming but not full EVs
Do they give weight limit for upper bed?
Hi the upper bed weight limit is 175kg
Great value but will it achieve VW residuals?
We'll see. Less cost at the outset, so as a percentage I expect it'll do well. And remember the T7 Transporter will be closely related to this Ford.
I may have missed it Peter, but is this a front, rear or all wheel drive vehicle do you know?
Front-wheel drive
3ft 10 ins wide bed ? A regular small double is 4ft 6" , i have full width king size 5ft bed in my swb Vox Viv 07 reg, 93 k , only cost me 8 grand 😅😅😅
Rusty sill @4:43. I'd never buy a camper based on a ford vehicle.
Pretty sure that's just muck off the road
😂😂😂😂😂 It's mud for god's sake.
Ford muck .@@KennyRoberts-w3z
I wouldn’t want the plates and cutlery kept above the potty, yuck.
Lets hope it has a decent engine and not a wet belt engine as wont be worth a penny to anyone on the know.
It's a wet belt engine like all Transits and Customs, but remember that the Custom outsells any other vehicle in the UK and, despite what the internet might tell you, they're not all in garages...
Hmm. After owing a campervan with electric blinds, and electric pop top it seems a real crappy pop top fixings. 😢 George
Having had an electric pop-top on a California, I think I prefer my manual Reimo one - quicker and nothing to go wrong. The roof here is top quality but I'd like more daylight
@@MotorhomeCampervan There's an awful lot of electrics to go wrong in modern vehicles. Plenty of gimmicks. I am old school regarding vehicles. George
Great camper!! Pity they couldn’t make it a similar price to the smaller camper like the Japanese models.
But those are on 10-year-old vans....
If this still uses the wet-belt engine I’d not entertain it. Absolute disaster; nice van otherwise, and good review
It seems the wet belt is much less of a problem if maintenance is good and campers have a much more gentle life than vans
@@MotorhomeCampervan agree! Nevertheless it’s still a problem according to a friend who services my cars, affecting a number of vehicles in the Ford range, (and expensive to repair ☹️)
Worth a mention that Ford on this model have done away with the troublesome wet timing belt.
Where does that information come from? This is still an EcoBlue engine
Hi Peter. Love the dramatic pauses. But are they really necessary? Are you paid by the minute?
I hadn't really noticed any dramatic pauses and, no, I'm just paid a journo's salary
Ah-//but-/there- are--/lots of -- journos paid-- by the --/word
Nicer van on the road in front of you , the old VW 😂
I love a classic VW but would prefer the Panama for winter driving or a long haul to Scotland!
Yeah - lost me at that annoying speed thing - think I’ll buy an older version that’s been done up.
VW will keep it's resale value a lot better than a ford transit.
Factor in the higher price to start with and the difference probably won't be as much as you expect
Nice review but another small camper RIP OFF
How is it a rip off when the base vehicle accounts for most of the cost? They have to pay for a factory, staff, components, transport to the UK, taxes...
A lovely van, however be prepared to stash £6-7k in a safe place for a replacement engine when the wet belt explodes. Good luck chasing Ford for a warranty claim on that one.
You could afford to fit a new engine and still come out in front but I've had my transit from new and its 4yrs old been serviced regularly and it's done 120,000 miles. Very happy.
Obviously it's not what everyone wants to hear.
Is this a joke??
Why on earth would it be a joke? Have you watched the video??
I may have missed it Peter, but is this a front, rear or all wheel drive vehicle do you know?
Front-wheel drive
