the thing with Alan is that he talks with the person like an individual, not like a media/journalist guy; that immediatly creates a mood, and a real atmosphere, nothing is faked.
That depends on how many beers are involved.
This guy is great. I don’t know his music that well but his YT channel is excellent. Jerry rules too.

They are underrated. I feel like they have a good following but I never hear people talk about them. To The Nameless Dead is one of the best albums ever made, and I have said this to Alan personally.

Great interview. I was lucky enough to see Primordial at Hellfest in 2011 (coming from Canada) and Alan's performance (as well as the rest of the band) was spellbinding. I was literally in awe of how much passion and emotion and power there was in the music. I believe Alan is one the best and most underrated frontmen in metal!

Proper Irish answers. Going around the houses, making a short story long. Filled with obscure folkish wisdom & dextrous with evasive tangency'. Like any James Joyce. Now i'll away & listen to Primordial for the first time.

I would not count on Black Metal for his wisdom. There are plenty of guy in bands, not to mention fans, which are just the opposite of everything he represents. Mostly black metal bands are doing childishly blasphemy against sacred symbols and trying to subvert the meaning of everything they can. This guy is setting things into its right place.

There's pagan black metal wrote song about ancients cultures and beliefs, atmospheric bands wrote songs about nature and introspection and the list goes on and on. Black Metal is far more than blasphemous thematics from the second wave and pretentious intellectualism circle jerks from hipsters.

Don't get me wrong i love toooons of cultural and entertainment stuff from the home of the braves. But, I'm really some kind of elitist when its come to black metal outside from Europe and Quebec. Same for exemple to Death Metal, i forced to admit American makes better Death Metal and Hardcore than Europeans. There's some exception to the rules, of course. But, overall is what i observe. Cowardice and political correctness unfortunately has become an overall desired trace of personality among metal fans nowadays. . I’m Brazilian and for many years i couldn’t understand the lyrics so I’d never made a distinction on themes and ideology of lyrics content. If it’s saying something I disagree I will take it as the artists opinion or impressions on it. As for the death metal I’m might be just on the opposite side of you Lol. Some of the biggest for me in the 90: were the European ones like Carcass, Pestilence, Entombed, Dismember, Hypocrisy, Gorefeast Atrocity and Napalm. From America I have only 2 fave death metal bands: Death and Obituary.

I just got into this band. He seems like a really cool guy and a great musician. Seems like I'll become a big fan. EDIT: Now that I've seen the whole interview, this guy is actually one of the few people with brain in metal today. Finally someone with an objective perspective on politics, religion etc. Would love to meet this guy!

Yes. He's a a nice, well-spoken and smart guy who doesn't waste time on bullshit. I'm glad to have gotten to know him a bit more with this interview and after that. He also has a podcast you might want to follow.

Wow great interview. I first ran across primordial on the first upon a dark horizon compilation. It was the track infernal summer. Great stuff. Nice to see an intelligent discussion with an artist. Bonus was tyrant werwolf cameo.

You're somehow forgetting about one of the most important bands of old school rock / metal history, an -Irish - band by the name of Thin Lizzy!!
Also, you're forgetting about stiff Little fingers, who started out the same the as the sex pistols, out of northern Ireland (my homeland)
Plus (as you mentioned) Slade.
Pop/ rock/ punk was absolutely festering in Ireland Like the fields of our Rotten potato's!

Not a big primordial fan if I’m honest and I don’t get the Irish thing. I grew up with the ira letting bombs off everywhere and seeing our people laying dead on the pavement on the front pages of all the news papers.I like his work on marduks accuser though excellent song and I thought his odd singing tone went well with mortuus.Good interview though as always.

This was not your best effort. It seemed like you hadn't done much background check. Nemtheanga, who is very good with words, had problems answering your vague questions.This is my favorite band and I had my expectations high.
I'll tell you a secret: I rarely do background stuff. I wanna go there like a virgin noob asking the questions I wouldn't ask if I already knew the answers to them, you know. I like to keep my questions somewhat vague, as I've learned my lesson to not to ask "yes/no" questions.
So, of course if this is your favorite band, you're bound to be disappointed. That's just how it goes.
