I actually own two vintage 1940's lamb's wool muffs w/ pockets/purses built into them. I would recommend to anyone making one of these to sewn in a medium sized pocket into the lining before attaching the lining to the rest of it. The reason being - carrying these things is like carrying a small pillow around & it's very difficult also carrying a purse, phone, etc. around in addition to it. You may also want to sew a strap for attaching to your wrist, or clip for clipping to your coat.
I used your video to help me make my muff! It came pretty good considering it's pretty much my first project. I cant thank you enough for your help!! You rock!!
@StillAnimated Please, gloves were around way earlier than muffs. It's just that muffs can keep hands even warmer because rather than fingers being individually encased, they are all together so the heat from your hands is trapped in better and they keep each other warm.
A muff is warmer, actually. Unless we're talking about gloves with several layers and shells. A muff is a far more fashionable way of staying warm, since it's got filling and fur to keep its warmth. Thin gloves cannot compete, and mittens can DEFINITELY not compete. Especially since both mitts and gloves today are usually made out of nylon or polyester, none of them especially known for keeping warmth well.
Thank you for such easy directions! I made seven for my daughters.bridal party in one day. I added a pocket on the inside and a loop so that it can hang on their wtists
So cute! Love that this is made by a "forumer"! Don't know for sure if this is common, but it's cool of Threadbanger, especially with such a well made tutorial. Nice work all around!
@KeybladeMaster33 ...well there was a clever little invention called gloves and mittens... ya know, those things that keep your hands warm and your still able to complete simple daily tasks... hmmmm...
Neat! I've been wanting to do a muff for a very long time. This was a very smart take on it. I will have to put this into consideration before doing mine. Thanks for a great tutorial.
@Direness The pocket also gives me a great place to put a handwarmer for those really chilly days, too. That being said, lovely tutorial! Both my muffs are very large and black, it'd be nice to make a couple more compact, white & brown muffs to mix/match with my various vintage dresses & coats. Thank you very much!
I tried this once with stuffing and once with batting. The batting is so much more difficult. I prefer to do this with stuffing and just make a reverse pillow case.
I was going to make one of these for my last Convention but it wasn't cold enough >_< I will be making it for January. i wondering if something else can be used for batting.. or less batting. I'm trying to only use what I have already which would be regular stuffing.
Hi! I was thinking of using an unwanted duvet instead of batting, as the fabric shops are closed and I would prefer to up cycle. do I need to alter the pattern do you think?
I have always wanted one of these, but never realized what they were called :o too funny. still want one! I suppose that's where 'ear muffs' comes from. hmm. neato!
hmmm, add a pocket or too on the inside and you could actually carry your phone, keys, cash, cards, etc - altho choosing to carry them all might give you a bit of a chunky looking muff!
This is a really useful video, clear and concise. It's completely ruined by that godawful loud, irritating singing over and drowning out her voice. I had to struggle to hang on to her words picking through the lyrics of that bloody awful song. Please get rid of it!

Gotta love the muff jokes, in my mind it means that there's a young audience to threadbanger that wants to learn these neat crafts.
@ATLluver77 yup.
You did such a cute job! :) 1:05 reminds me of sushi before it is rolled.
It looks really warm, perfect for a cute winter outing!

I am so in love with the Victorian era! This is fantastic!

I am using your instructions to create a fiddle muff for some dementia patients in the nursing home my mom is in. :-)

Yes, but when you are fulfilling your life goal of being a victorian goth ice princess (see DIY Pom Pom episode), and muff is essential.

@EmilyProductions34 Thanks! There are so many amazing ideas and people in the crafty world.
I don't quite understand the part where she sewed it together, turned it right sides out, and then turned it in in a different direction..?

@StillAnimated
So I guess it's safe to assume your hands always stay warm regardless of the weather?
It's not that way for everyone.
I have always wanted one of these, but never realized what they were called :o too funny. still want one!
I suppose that's where 'ear muffs' comes from. hmm. neato!

@atticus9799 who cares. At least they have a sense of humor. We know what the video is about. How about you remove the stick.
O_O
muff = about the most useless clothing accessory...
great tutorial though!
