It's been a while, I just finished my first year at West Point and wanted to share. Here are some responses from my fellow classmates about our crazy COVID Plebe year.
All responses do not reflect the the United States Military Academy or the DoD, and are all opinions of cadets.

@@Broc_Obama What is your current SAT score? Try to practice to get a high one. Also focus on your academic and athletic success
Nice video. Even with all the changes USMA is a very special place and cadets/classmates are the best. I'm one of 3 grads in my family ('56, 80 and '93). I got married there in '97 and my Dad is buried there. Still love the place. Take advantage of every minute you are there, because it may seem to suck but it's really a gift.

WOW!!! At 80 years of age I just ran into this presentation and y questions are, when did beast year change? I thought beast year was about passing classes AND knowing the defiñition of leather and sitting ramrod straight at meals. When did this all change? Rooms decorated as if they were civilian dorm rooms. Were these changes made before women were accepted to the academy?.
Definitely a great video Parker :) it helped a lot to have well rounded responses to each question .

Very informative and cool video. Please do another one. My 18 year old son is now a WP plebe this year. He just finished Beast a week and a half ago. Can you give tips on how to manage your hmrk and time management?
Not a real answer for your question but allow me to say "when you find yourself sinking academically seek help from the faculty ASAP." They are there for you. They will help. I was hospitalized a long time and I had Instructors visiting me daily. They are not like regular college professors. Most are military and many grads themselves. They want you to succeed and will bend over backwards to help.
Most cadets were superstars in HS. They don't know how to ask for help because they never had to. Until I figured that out I was skating on thin ice. Don't fall into the same trap.

Thank you for your tips. We really appreciate them and agree that they are there to help. Have a nice thanksgiving!

We were there in West Point last Nov 18-20 as my daughter got invited to shadow a cadet.

What is one thing that you could tell yourself a year ago? Don’t stress out too much, you are far more capable than you think
What is one thing you wish you brought to beast? More/better socks
What is the worst thing about being a plebe? I didn’t mind being a plebe, but probably not being able to talk outside
What was the worst/hardest plebe class? EV203/ DIRT was the hardest for me, it wasn’t difficult I just didn’t do very well.
What do you wish you did differently this year? I wish I would have got more involved first semester with clubs and with my company more, just making stronger relationships.
What do you wish you knew when applying?
How did you prepare for beast? I ran 4-5 miles 3xweek and biked 20-25miles 3xweek and also did the prescribed workouts for preparing for beast.
What was the best part about plebe year? Making new friends and making weird memories!
I don’t really have a reason for why the army over the other branches. I did Army ROTC last year and it kinda just fit.

Hey do you have any advice for anyone at West Point hoping to venture into starting their own channel ? For example any pointers as far as ideas for videos, and managing your schedule to be able to make videos edit them while also being consistent. Anything would be great 😊.
I usually make videos on West Point based on requests. I think that it would be doable to make and edit consistent videos here if one didn’t have many extracurricular

West Point let’s you have flags in your rooms? From what I’ve been told is that the most personal things you can bring with you is maybe your cellphone and a tooth brush.

When you 1st visit West Point Academy to tour the school, do you have to take the CFA exam there while visiting?

I recently recieved an appointment from West Point into the class of 2026 and was also accepted into other civilian schools. What does the West Point experience offer you that regular college does not? Nice video though :)
it offer so much more! Opportunity, experience, and a great career afterwards. Coming from a civilian school, this is definitely a challenge that is worth it!
Is it true that after you graduate, you can buy out your 5 year active duty and 3 year reserves enlistment period for $100,000?
not sure about that, but I know it’s more of you leave after you affirm as a Junior

@@Bmoore295 There's no real break. It's a day or two to get settled in academic year barracks, draw books and start studying. Also getting to know lots more upperclassmen!
🇺🇸 My son got the nomination for July. I'm more nervous than he is. Mostly about the 8 yrs after graduation and possible war. How do you handle the 8yr commitment and thoughts of going to war? Thanks.

Are you limited to the amount of OPP’s you get ?
during covid we did have limited OPPs, but under normal circumstances, OPPs are given to anyone, even plebes, every weekend. but we have to be in uniform off post
Policy Letter 8 grants 1st - 3rd Class Cadets unlimited off-post privileges while not authorizing them for 4th Class Cadets.
