Well...for me the reason why I was not interested in checking it out in the beginning was that 1.) I still remember the Pandora Hearts anime **brrrr** - and that one was really awful even when the manga was good and 2) the manga isnt finished yet and I dread an anime original ending.

This ED is somehow feeding my fear. At first, Vanitas seems friendly. but if you observed more closely he resembles Break. He seems easy to approach until you realize he draws a clear line you cannot cross. And just like Break he knows something he wasn't too keen to share. hope he doesn't end like Break. @@chaisensei spoiler: Luna says if he uses more power his body will be remade or something like that which i think when this happens noe will have to kill him I'm guessing its either vanitas going crazy and starts killing vampires instead of saving them or when Luna said his body will be remade Luna maybe means she/he takeover his body or something like that since we saw his skin turning black like Luna if I remember correctly and since we don't know much about Luna and from the stories about him/her I'm guessing once he/she takes over they'll start going on a rampage killing/taking the vampires true name. idk this is just my thought on it. But then again the stories sound like what naenia is doing which is taking the names of vampires and turning them into curse bearers and when chloe tried to kill naenia she turned into the queen of vampires which looks a lot like Luna but without the black skin. Luna and the Queen may have something to do with each other and maybe the vampires twisted the story and it was actually the queen/naenia that's been taking the names; also when they portray the vampire of the blue moon they portray it basically looking like naenia with a blue hood on and maybe Luna was saving the vampires by giving back their true names with the book of vanitas but then it wouldn't make sense since vanitas says he is trying to erase her entire existence when he talks to misha. There's a lot of questions that needs to be answered in this series lmao. Another is Ruthven ordering noe to kill vanitas but I highly doubt that would happen.
Finally I understand. Vanitas vows to kill Noe if he ever drinks his blood because he's an Archiviste. Vanitas doesn't seem to want anyone to know about his past until he dies of his own accord from overusing the inherited powers (more like a curse) by the vampire of the blue moon. While the background of the blood is the blood of Vanitas, and Vanitas in it is him who is trapped in the curse of the vampire of the blue moon that has marked Vanitas on his right hand. Noe is the first and only person to realize that Vanitas is the only person who hopes to be saved and should be saved. That was why Vanitas looked aloof and clutched his wound alone. Maybe one day there will be an incident where Noe is forced to drink Vanitas' blood to find out about his past, maybe? That way Noe can help Vanitas. That's why Noe was seen falling while holding out his hand to Vanitas, and on the other hand Vanitas who was hoping for himself to be saved too--but the other side of Vanitas seemed to have a plan of his own that made him refuse help--for example deciding to die alone, maybe?--that's why he can understand any vampire who has such desires (eg Chloe). That's why Vanitas seemed to be about to slash Noe's neck after Noe stretched out his hand (probably because Noe had drunk his blood). But i guess Vanitas also trying to tell Noe that helping him would just be pointless. Maybe it's too late to help Vanitas that's already marked that huge. But I can't conclude anything either because Vanitas is so inconsistent and mysterious, he's so confusing. But that's what makes me can't forget this series. Really, this is too successful for me to think about and miss Vanitas. I don't care what if Vanitas is going to be the worst in the end, I still love him. I love Vanitas and Noe, esp Vanitas ofc. He deserves to be loved and protected, even though he hates himself so much (╥﹏╥)

This IS the Pandora Hearts creator, who while not making bl or any romance really certainly had no problem leaning into it. Gil was clearly pining after Oz, and the anime really portrayed Gil as gay for him in the specials. So it's definitely intentional, though never outright stated.

actually, If you have known about Jun Mochizuki, you would beware there is such a relationship could happen between man and man, or woman and woman, it is rare and beautiful, not contain any yaoi or yuri. And trust me, a true love created by Jun is cuter, lovely, enjoyable, dramatic, romantic, and hurting, and fear, and separation and of course depression.
Jun is masterful at creating deep platonic relationships. Look at Pandora Hearts, there's relationships like Alice+Oz, Break+Sharon, etc... which goes beyond romantic and into being something deeper than that

Clarification for the people asking if this is a BL: *No it isn’t a BL. It’s a Shounen.* There’s romance that occurs between the two main leads with these other female characters named Jeanne and Dominique but Vanitas and Noé’s relationship is simply a platonic friendship as MochiJun, the author has said, although the fandom likes to ship them together. Personally, I only see them as best friends but you can think about it however you want. This is a Shounen anime and the same thing goes for the manga. The romance aspect is only a side plot and it isn’t really that important. I hope that whoever gets into this series doesn’t get the wrong idea of thinking it’s a BL and drops it. Please watch the anime for the good plot, mystery and action like myself because I don’t want people to think one of my favorite mangas of all time as a romance or ‘BL’. Thanks for reading.
They’re not even best friends haha. Vanitas doesn’t really have friends in his eyes (he does get a little vulnerable with a couple characters occasionally but he’s full of self loathing and still is largely evasive on the “opening up” department to where he thought he was dying when he felt an ounce of love), and Noé has told him to his face that he doesn’t like him but is intrigued by him. He wasn’t being malicious, he probably cares about him to some degree but Vanitas does a lot of jerk moves as a person which Noé hates. And hoo boy latest chapter in the manga... he's not in any friendship mode rn
Although they do act like besties, but I’m saying from Vanitas’s perspective; he doesn’t really grasp friendship as a concept or possibility yet probably. He’d probably be confused by the idea of someone genuinely being concerned for his wellbeing and caring about him
Jun Mochizuki really has some of the most beautiful drawings and stories. After reading Pandora Hearts, I was so excited when the release of the Case Study of Vanitas came out. Even though I know this series is only going to get darker, I can't wait to see on Bones animates it all.

A hidden gem of this era after Pandora's Hearts(same author). It's good, both manga and the series very fateful adaptation I would say.

Maybe one day there will be an incident where Noe is forced to drink Vanitas' blood to find out about his past, maybe? That way Noe can help Vanitas.
That's why Noe was seen falling while holding out his hand to Vanitas, and on the other hand Vanitas who was hoping for himself to be saved too--but the other side of Vanitas seemed to have a plan of his own that made him refuse help--for example deciding to die alone, maybe?--that's why he can understand any vampire who has such desires (eg Chloe).
That's why Vanitas seemed to be about to slash Noe's neck after Noe stretched out his hand (probably because Noe had drunk his blood). But i guess Vanitas also trying to tell Noe that helping him would just be pointless. Maybe it's too late to help Vanitas that's already marked that huge. But I can't conclude anything either because Vanitas is so inconsistent and mysterious, he's so confusing. But that's what makes me can't forget this series.
Really, this is too successful for me to think about and miss Vanitas. I don't care what if Vanitas is going to be the worst in the end, I still love him. I love Vanitas and Noe, esp Vanitas ofc. He deserves to be loved and protected, even though he hates himself so much (╥﹏╥)

Although, some other of Noé's flashbacks regarding Vanitas' death does makes me wonder...
This IS the Pandora Hearts creator, who while not making bl or any romance really certainly had no problem leaning into it. Gil was clearly pining after Oz, and the anime really portrayed Gil as gay for him in the specials. So it's definitely intentional, though never outright stated.

actually, If you have known about Jun Mochizuki, you would beware there is such a relationship could happen between man and man, or woman and woman, it is rare and beautiful, not contain any yaoi or yuri. And trust me, a true love created by Jun is cuter, lovely, enjoyable, dramatic, romantic, and hurting, and fear, and separation and of course depression.

Jun is masterful at creating deep platonic relationships. Look at Pandora Hearts, there's relationships like Alice+Oz, Break+Sharon, etc... which goes beyond romantic and into being something deeper than that

One of the best anime opening/ending songs I have ever heard, and I'm saying this as someone who's been watching anime for 13+ years
I believe the opening lyrics were what Noe was like at first, but the ending is after he learned everything about Vanitas/ The Book of Vanitas
Clarification for the people asking if this is a BL:
*No it isn’t a BL. It’s a Shounen.*
There’s romance that occurs between the two main leads with these other female characters named Jeanne and Dominique but Vanitas and Noé’s relationship is simply a platonic friendship as MochiJun, the author has said, although the fandom likes to ship them together. Personally, I only see them as best friends but you can think about it however you want.
This is a Shounen anime and the same thing goes for the manga. The romance aspect is only a side plot and it isn’t really that important. I hope that whoever gets into this series doesn’t get the wrong idea of thinking it’s a BL and drops it. Please watch the anime for the good plot, mystery and action like myself because I don’t want people to think one of my favorite mangas of all time as a romance or ‘BL’. Thanks for reading.

They’re not even best friends haha. Vanitas doesn’t really have friends in his eyes (he does get a little vulnerable with a couple characters occasionally but he’s full of self loathing and still is largely evasive on the “opening up” department to where he thought he was dying when he felt an ounce of love), and Noé has told him to his face that he doesn’t like him but is intrigued by him. He wasn’t being malicious, he probably cares about him to some degree but Vanitas does a lot of jerk moves as a person which Noé hates. And hoo boy latest chapter in the manga... he's not in any friendship mode rn
Although they do act like besties, but I’m saying from Vanitas’s perspective; he doesn’t really grasp friendship as a concept or possibility yet probably. He’d probably be confused by the idea of someone genuinely being concerned for his wellbeing and caring about him

Jun Mochizuki really has some of the most beautiful drawings and stories. After reading Pandora Hearts, I was so excited when the release of the Case Study of Vanitas came out. Even though I know this series is only going to get darker, I can't wait to see on Bones animates it all.
