How to Enlarge Door Knob Hole - The Easy Way

- I wanted to replace my deadbolt with an electronic deadbolt on a very old door in my garage. The hole was too small and needed to be enlarged. This can be difficult, but hopefully I can show you a couple of different ways to do this and still have a clean hole for the new deadbolt. If you want to use the jig as shown in the video, there is an Amazon link below. You should also be able to purchase one of these at Home Depot or Lowes, etc. It comes with the hole saws that are needed for the installation. Thank you for watching.

took the lock out, checked mechanicals, did some wd-40 which got the outer cylinder working and reinstalled everything. It is working! Yay! The volume thing is odd, some videos are fine , others not at my end. At any rate, I followed along and got the lock working. TY

What about using a drill bit to chisel away the extra space you need? I like the way you do it, but looking for the cheapest way
I would be careful doing that. It might be difficult to control and could cause damage to the door. I would maybe experiment with some kind of sanding or grinding bit that would go into a drill. Not saying it can’t be done, but I don’t think I would be able to do it with just a drill bit. Good luck. Appreciate you watching.

Bummer! This may be a case where the actual door jig may be best. Depending on how much it is off, it could be possible to use a round sanding attachment on a drill to enlarge the hole, or possibly even a rounded file. Good luck! It can be done!
