    I can’t believe how much I enjoyed just watching a guy packing something. Packing it extraordinarily well, that is. 😂

    Watched this back to back with your packaging video from three years ago and it’s so cool to see how your process has evolved! Obviously the materials being more environmentally friendly is great, but my favourite is the stamp on the cardboard wrapping - it’s such a classy touch, and something you just couldn’t do with the plastic. So in changing materials, you’ve found a way to enhance the experience of unboxing. I love it! (Oh, and the paper tape is really cool as well)

      It's good stuff! Not as protective as the plastic stuff, but after being folded in a few layers it really stiffens up, and the bubbles can't pop! The smell though... well, it's pretty bad.

    I never thought id consider a packing video so interesting. When ever Ive had to box up similar objects like glasses or jugs, I put a ball of paper inside. Something to brace it and apply force from the opposite direction of a possible crushing or impact
    It really shows your care and pride in your work that just as much thoughtfulness and effort is put into the packaging. From the robustness to everything being sustainable.

I understand when people don't, but it means a lot when someone does! All the best to you in your new role! 🎉

    Beautifully presented, and this is a very timely video for me! I'm working on a piece of art for a charity auction that I will have to ship internationally pre-framed once it's completed, toward the end of summer. While a frame is certainly a simpler shape to package up than a pot, this video has given me some good ideas and principles to work from for the packaging!

    Hey! Greetings from Spain! Super fan of yours btw. I was wondering if you knew about a typical piece of pottery we use here in Spain called “botijo”. It’s a vase-like container for water, with an entrance and a spout on opposite sides and a handle on top, and it is left unglazed for a reason. Turns out when it’s hot, a full botijo because of evaporation through the porous unglazed clay, as an effect of the evaporation cools the water inside it, and in summer is used to store water and cool it. I was wondering if you had heard of it and if you’d try and make one someday, it would be so cool to see a foreign potter show appreciation for Spanish potting ingenuity. Thanks and keep the good work! 💕

    Having worked in the US post office, it seems like fragile tape only matters when it’s being accepted from you and when it’s being delivered from the recipient’s post office. The worst thing that can happen for your package’s survival is they get put on a smaller plane for transport because most of the pilots will throw the packages up into the truck that takes it from the airport to the post office and often times a heavier box will land on top of boxes with fragile stickers.

    • @floriangadsby
      @floriangadsby  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Sometimes I’ve refunded them, and other times I send them another pot if I have it in stock, I have to take the loss in most cases. Generally I can get a refund for the shipping costs from the couriers, but that process is hell for the most part.

    I wonder if it would make sense to wear silicone finger tips when using the wet tape? They may protect your skin at least a bit, if the glue doesn't stick to them, of course.

    • @hannahstraining7476
      @hannahstraining7476 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glue doesn't stick to silicone (unless it is specifically silicone glue). So a good suggestion.

    It's great that potters are working on improving packaging, but by far the highest environmental impact of sending pots is the transport. Sending pots around the world (Aus, US etc) comes with large carbon emissions. Have you ever thought about restricting the countries you send to ? Only UK for example ? Or only UK and EU ? Or maybe restricting transport methods ? (No plane for example, but I'm not sure that is possible for small businesses).
    That being said, thanks for your priceless videos, they are amazing and teach me so much :)

    • @floriangadsby
      @floriangadsby  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s the great conundrum. In the past my UK sales used to be much greater, but nowadays my largest audience by far is the USA. So, in a way, the fix to this would be moving to America, but I’m sure much of the parcels would still be sent across the country by plane over there? I do offer collection, and this time I’ve had about 8-9 this time around, so that’s good. I don’t think I can choose to restrict how they’re sent, that isn’t something most couriers offer, and I have to choose the ‘cheaper’ services in the grand scheme of things to make shipping affordable for the customers, compared to say, using more specialised art couriers that might be more open to shipping without the use of planes, but they cost an awful lot. That leaves me with only shipping to the UK, damned island!
