There is some information that is missing here. Generally updating GPU drivers can have performance improvements on newer released or new games in general, but for older titles that aren't receiving updates, they usually will not have much, or any effect. The phenomenon of getting unplayable, like 14 fps suddenly after monitor changes (assuming you were getting much better fps prior) cannot be remedied with just an update in general, but it is a good idea to update it regardless. Alternatively, there's a possibility someone upgraded from a 1080p to a 4k monitor, that's a very realistic scenario where one can see fps numbers drop drastically depending on the game and the gpu
If you're playing older titles, a new graphics driver update could cause performance issues and instability. If you're using your computer for work and gaming there's some software that might just outright brick. Solidworks 2022 required a downgraded nvidia driver for months for best performance.

I would like to point out this is MAINLY an issue for NVidia. With NVidia if I didn't update it within a day or 2 I'd get similar FPS. With my 7800XT I have no "issues" even after not updating for 6ish months
Usually the update fks up more things that it solves
And update the bios. I put a new 4060 TI with 12 gigs into my woman’s desktop. Realized the rebar was not turned on. Turned it on and then it started crashing a lot. It was doing this thing where the screen was just lock up, but you could hear and see things going on in the background. Updated windows updated the drivers updated. Everything at least three times even changed out the graphics card. Decided to turn rebar off didn’t have a problem with it for three days after that. Went and looked at the bios to see if there was updates there were seven new update updates.
ok shot in the dark
HDMI is in the motherboard
Edit: Dammit.
You're not the only one
And sometimes, you update your drivers and some games start giving trouble. Love PC gaming though.
remember use STUDIO drivers unless your rich and buy games the day it comes out
Also don't forget every other driver too. Ethernet/wifi being good ones.
who updates their ethernet and wifi drivers lol. you have to be the only person in the world who does that. what do you think it will do? give you better speed? because if you think that then you are wrong.
@metalvideos1961 it keeps the hardware working as intended. Like every single driver update you can do. Literally everyone. Obviously some are more important than others. Not having updated ethernet/drivers can affect connectivity and yes can also affect your speeds although only ever slowing you down. Do some research before you try being a bell end will ya 😂😂 mental though I must thank Asus for making driver updates just for me. They must lose lots of time and money doing it just for me
@@theibaneztamer5072 Ethernet drivers are pointless. never updated it and it still works as it should. And no it cant affect Connectivity. never update it still can use my 1Gbps connection at full speed so i dont know what you are on about. And i did my research you clearly did not lol. Ethernet drivers are the most pointless drivers there are. the only thing you have to get up to date is your router firmware but thats something your ISP should do anyway. i use the same pc for 10 years now did 1 Bios update in my life the first time i got my MOBO. thats literally it. still use the same 1Gbps connection i had 10 years ago.
Literally no issue ever has been solved by updating gpu drivers
I did use my gaming laptop, for gaming in like 8 months it was performing poorly (I started playing again about a month ago) and I went to check the graphics drivers and they were 9 months out of date (I updated them a month ago)
meanwhile me with 13 year old outdated graphics drivers-
Six months is like my target. I only update them every 6 months or when I have issues…
And people should put new thermal paste in their GPU and on their CPU at least once every two years and that's being extremely generous.
Ive done this 😂😂 bought a new PC, "why is it bad.... Oh... Drivers...."
Me here rolling back to 6 months old drivers because the most recent ones are bad
Unironicaly, my games began to freeze, and when I was done making sure I haven't moved anything I shouldn't, I then remembered this and indeed, nvidia had released an update
"Always update graphic drivers"
Meanwhile me with pre-2011 laptop with windows 8.1 playing normally while not having any chance to update since everyone is moving to windows 10-11
fun fact is that such occurrences are rarer than a bird striking a plane when it comes to NVIDIA. for sure, if you're using AMD or Intel Arc... well, press that update button while praying that the new driver doesn’t set your PC on fire and hoping Mr. Huang doesn’t come for your wallet.
I just updated my graphics card driver (GTX 1650) a while ago. I haven't updated the driver for 4 years and honestly I haven't found much of a diffrence, I purely did it because my friend kept telling me too, but it didn't effect fps or anything really
My problem was that I didn't put the HDMI cable into the graphics card output, but the motherboard output. Man I felt stupide.
Lots of BS, never update GPU drivers if games run fine. As long as you dont have any issues never update GPU drivers.
I guess a tip is to maybe double check that latest drivers don't cause issues for other things. Let's not ignore the fact that some nVidia drivers have been known to BSOD.
I believe it was NVidia's 555 drivers, under certain circumstances, that was causing a "SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED". But hey, apparently only AMD has driver issues.
I used to do this on my old gaming laptop but now with a new gaming pc I check every day when I turn it on
Yeah, except nvidia drivers mess up your pc more often than not and i always need to keep an older, stable version of the driver just in case the updated driver is garbage...🙄🙄🙄
