That's the thing though. I am pretty safe myself - though I tend to mix up island nation capitals in the Caribbean or Pacific, so one of these could kill me - but the time is harsh. 30 in 60 seconds sounds easy, but watching this I don't think I could do it even if only "safe" questions were asked.
That really is impressive. Unfortunately, it looks like this record no longer stands. It has since been broken by Muhammad Taha of Pakistan, who named 45 in one minute.
My question is, was it verbally asked or already written, then it's impressive that BOTH the questioner and the answerer can get 52 or even 45 in one minute.
Was this Pointless Celebrities or just regular Pointless with celebrity contestants? Either way, it must have been pretty low on banter if they managed to fit the world record shenanigans in to the 45 minutes.
@@Sundae_Times You've replied to a comment that included a question. A question that you are obviously unable to answer. Your reply told the world that the television programme Pointless (or Pointless Celebrities, we haven't actually established which) is edited. This is a fact that no one asked about or disputed. You've added nothing to the human understanding of the world or the structure of this particular episode of Pointless (or Pointless Celebrities). Think about what you have done, Johnny. You've made a fool of yourself and wasted everyone's time., "mate".
@@GroundhogRoy Thanks Roy. I do realise that, yes. It's usually edited down to about 45 minutes or so I believe. This episode of Pointless Celebrities (or possibly Pointless with celebrities) must have been particularly low on banter if they managed to fit the world record shenanigans in. Do you agree with my hypothesis? That question is open to everyone.
I'm assuming they're randomly drawn, or otherwise drawn up by some mystical means determined by the Guinness peeps, not by the person trying to break it, or their team.
Go to sporcle (or a similar site), try it out. Also, manudude is correct - time IS an issue. I would know all 50 US states, but how quickly when prompted I don't know.
I am impressed with his vast knowledge of capital cities and their countries. Wow.
Mr.Mister I would have been able to get a large number of those. But would have taken more than a minute for 29.

It's a very common category on Pointless
Haha. I found it much easier to root for him than lots of reality tv show contestants.
He knows his sh*t and contestants don't know they're sh*t.
6:47 just me or does a giant enter the set ?
Makes bloody Osman look small
That giant is the late Neil Fingleton.
Xandar is so sweet!
Thanks to Richard, I've been learning capitals. But nowhere near as quickly as Richard.
The capitals I know are A B C D E etc
Xander slyly taking the piss out of the guy saying "very hope"
"You don't know Jack, but you will. Welcome Jack!"
That really is impressive. Unfortunately, it looks like this record no longer stands. It has since been broken by Muhammad Taha of Pakistan, who named 45 in one minute.
+bluebear1985 It's now 58.
EDIT: I was looking at the wrong record, it's 52.
That's still impressive :)
I know every capital quite well and getting 30 in one minute seemed hard enough; getting 52 is incredible
My question is, was it verbally asked or already written, then it's impressive that BOTH the questioner and the answerer can get 52 or even 45 in one minute.
yea but imagine you never practiced them, also he didn't get virtually any easy ones which there are allot
6:44 Bigfoot invades the set.
Even more impressive that he had no time to prepare for it
He would’ve known about it before the show started
Well done Richard Osman!😊👍👍👍
So very impressive.
I’d not seen this before, and I watch Pointless regularly - very impressive!
I knew only about half of 'em. That was impressive.
I've not seen this before and I watch Pointless almost all the time it's on
This is Richard Osman making a guest appearance on the British TV show "Pointless", along with a few people from the Guinness Book of World Records.
Richard taking the extra half-second to go “Central African Republic!” Is likely what cost him the first attempt.
from Sweden, Love this Show and love Richard!
what country did he get wrong btw?
Amphan none, he just didn't answer them fast enough the first time.
"Congo" presumably not deemed correct as ambiguous. RoC and DRoC.
What an impressive man
bloody hell that man in the red t-shirt is massive
Why did a giant invade the stage!?
...who was Neil? Haha
Ash Benzaiten 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
At 7ft 7.56in, he was the tallest man in Europe alive at the time. He died on 25th February 2017 of heart failure, aged 36
That's incredible
Capital of Palau now Ngerulmud
Douglas Squasoni :34345
Most impressive is he only got one wrong that entire time (by my count) (Kingstown is capital of Dominica, not St. Vincent)
Kingstown is the Capital of St Vincent. Roseau is the capital of Dominica.
They probably didn't count "Congo" as correct for "Brazzaville". There's two Congos so they would probably only have accepted "Republic of the Congo".
I think if he'd just said the UAE instead of the United Arab Emirates on the first go he could of done it
55 in 1 minute, not 30
I like goofy Richard

It's called editing, mate.

Surely you could just give him loads of easy ones?
define "easy"? he knows a lot lmao

The questions are given by Guiness and are randomly ordered
I know every capital city of Europe ;)
Leopold Slikk You name a country, and I'll name them
what a set up
By reading an atlas anyone could do that
Reading it is one thing. Remembering it is quite another.
It honestly isn't hard. I could name at least 150 capital cities off of my head and assign at least 120 of them to countries
in 1 minute?
