I just opted out even though I did not get the email as I don't want this change, its a poor decision on eBay's part and no input was asked from sellers. I want to choose if I pass on a shipping discount to a buyer. The screen shot below is the questions they ask related to opting out. I did this to protect myself. I would recommend others do this as well to send them a message. This change could be in response to Mercari's recent changes. Sellers opt out of the bad change.
I use calculated shipping on everything. I use priority on more expensive items. When I use ground advantage, a lot of times priority is less than a dollar difference. When that happens, I upgrade to priority and use a free USPS box...and still make money on the shipping. I am definitely opting out of passing the shipping discount to the buyer.
We do flat rate shipping. Because we sell a lot of clothing with free no questions asked returns, doing free shipping would just kill us. For all those "it didn't fit" or "I just didn't like it" returns we get we are able to recoup some of the loss of the return by not refunding the original shipping costs. If we did free shipping, that would not be possible.
Flat rate shipping can work to your advantage as well. I do an average between the highest rate/farthest point to ship (In USA) and mid point rate. If someone close by or mid-point buys, the shipping rate is typically lower than my flat rate price. As far as Flat vs. Free -- FREE shipping is not free to the buyer therefore I find that to be deceiving to the buyer to jack up the sales price and claim free shipping, plus, if they return for any reason, you eat the original shipping plus the return shipping. I prefer to give a competitive sales price with a competitive shipping rate and have the option to recoup my shipping costs on returns. That is the difference for me!

Dave, some people just look at the price of the item and just dismiss the cost of shipping as unavoidable. That is what Kevin means by it is psychological. Also, when you send offers out for 5% off or whatever free shopping items will be discounted more and your sale value will be less.
👏👏👏 for Carey 😅, but am sorry Calculated Shipping is the way to go at least for me, am in eBay Canada and we don’t have global shipping program and nothing except calculated works for me, not to mentioned shipping nationwide in Canada is even sometimes more expensive than shipping to USA! I love squishmallows, but I don't think I would ever buy them on ebay..... I work at Walgreens, and I get most of mine there. But I also agree while I don't think they are necessarily phasing out, I think they are producing more too fast, too much variety, flooding the market because of the previous popularity, and the collectors, like me, are pretty picky on the ones we buy, unlike when they first came out and we actually had places to put them. I know about how much it will cost to send the item and I price the shipping accordingly, remembering that I'm also paying fees on the shipping.

The sleep number firmness control system together with a remote is worth more than the controllers by themselves. Keep that in mind when you find controllers. Always look for the firmness control system (pump) with it.
Regarding prices changing at Garage sales and flea markets, over the course of my 20 years do this, it'll probably remain the same. You'll always encounter those sales where the prices are high then you'll find places where the prices are just right. Even at Goodwill's I've never seen a vast change in pricing year over year. I have between just different goodwills but that is just the human factor and/or whoever they hired to do pricing at that time.

I started doing calculated because I kept having items costing $6.91 to ship priority and I was charging a flat rate of $8.99 or $9.99. Now I do priority calculated and then add an option to ship ground if the buyer wants to do that.
Doing flat rate..You kind of have to know how much it will be MAX..and charge that much...sometimes it goes over..sometimes under..but it evens out pretty much. I have over 500 items listed and I have flat rate shipping...way more competitive

Wow as a Canadian seller I think this change is great ! The only way we can compete is with calculated shipping. We cant do free shipping because.. we live in the second largest country in the world. I get an order to ship to Nunavut with free shipping, my profit is zero. It is hard enough to compete with American sellers that Inflate their shipping charge to make extra $ it is almost the same as Chinese sellers getting Subsidized shipping. As a Canadian seller in the G.T.A it is cheaper & quicker for me to ship to L.A. Texas, & New York than it is to ship to B.C. , P.E.I . or the territories & prairies . I think this change evens the playing field a bit, because buyers will see how much shipping a seller is really charging and might purchase from someone cheaper possibly in a future purchase, North of the border 😎

I went to a Phillies game, we got 5 Bryce Harper 2022 NL Champions Ring. At the game I sold 2 within 20 minutes of listing for $55 each. I also sold an empty box with the base for the ring for $20. People just throw the box on the ground.
it's so simple just opt out, don't buy junk, take good pictures, make good titles, and price properly and you will sell your items on ebay, its not rocket science lol

You can't "just add $10 or $12 to your listing price." You can up your price but that doesn't mean it will sell for that. Most of my items sell on best offers that average 15-20% off my listing price. AND your prices are driven by the lowball sellers that list items below their value, ruining it for the rest of us trying to sell at a decent price. I am listing my prices a bit higher already to leave room for all those undercutting offers. I think I'm going to opt out. OR I will start adding a handling fee. eBay needs to stop including the shipping label price in what they calculate selling fees on.
