- Muhammad Ali's widow, Lonnie, and his nine children may become locked in a bitter legal battle over the estate, believed to be worth $80 million. The boxing icon has been married four times. His first marriage to Sonji Roy in 1964 lasted just a year-and-a-half and produced no children. He married his second wife, Belinda, when she was just 17 in 1967. They had three daughters. Two years ago, Inside Edition found Muhammad Jr. in Chicago and doing odd jobs for a living. Much of Ali's fortune comes from the sale of the commercial rights to his name for $50 million. #InsideEdition

I had read about him in another story on Facebook. This son is an adult and has a family. I realize somewhere between what he says and Ali's family says is the truth, but it just seems to me that he's just asking for a handout from his parent/family...what happened to him all these years leading up to this that he couldn't provide for himself and his family?

Ali took the least amount of punishment as a boxer in comparison to any other heavyweight fighter.

Good question. That's because there's an "association", not "causation" between Parkinson's and repeated head trauma, such as that endured on boxing.
Studies have shown that if you take people with a history of boxing-like head trauma (e.g. Ali) and compare them with people who don't have such a history (e.g. M.J. Fox) you find parkinson's to be more common in the first group and less common in the 2nd group.
However, because Parkinson's still occurs in the 2nd group, head trauma is termed as an association instead of cause. What it means is that head injury alone may not be a strong enough factor to cause Parkinson's, but may push a brain towards the disease if it's already weakened by other Parkinson's risk factors, such as faulty genes and exposure to pesticides (in fact Ali was exposed to pesticides while training outdoors in his younger years, says Time magazine)
So yes, the boxing probably didn't directly cause Ali's Parkinson's, but it may have pushed his already susceptible brain towards it.

Unfortunately money does that to families. One thing they all should consider. Its not their money. Not one off them stood inside the ring and took punches to the head for that money. When my dad passed. I received money from his estate. I donated it. I didn't want it because I wasn't the one who earned it. I didn't feel it was fine to begin with. I asked my father to not name me in the will but he did. I asked his lawyer if I could forfit my amount he said no I have to send it to you. If u want to donate it u can. So that's what I did. I felt my parents raised me. Fed me clothed me and paid for my education. That's all I needed in life the rest is up to me to make my way in life.
