Terrific fight , one of the best all- British bouts in living memory. The was some serious pre-fight trash talk by both men - which was fairly unusual back then, especially in Britain - which all turned pretty nasty and hyped up the fight, but it actually lived up to expectations for once. Both men were very fine boxers; Kaylor very gutsy with a never-say-die attitude, and Christie very classy and elegant. Also, always good to hear Harry Carpenter's voice again, brings back lots of TV sporting memories for me!
This Yank, who's followed the sport for 40+ years, admittedly didn't know about Kaylor until recently. His right hand counters were exceptional, and fight-changing, in fact. Really like the way he threw that punch. Well done, Limey. Respect, big time.
Limey? That's a bit rude isn't it especially coming from someone with the surname Nelson, ex limey. You're English yourself don't forget your place now.
I Remember this fight very fondly. I was a Kaylor fan, but boy did I have respect for Errol Christie. A British classic......made even better with the great Harry Carpenter commentating👍👊
big up errol , i luv all your family much luv, i grew up with his brother simon , went to school with them all, simon where are you , lost touch with you, but still much luv to yous all .
I saw Christie at Nottingham in the mid 80s - but he was fighting poor fighters. Still I thought he would beat Kaylor. I love the way Kaylor paused before landing that knockout punch.
I used to box for Waltham Forest ABC in 84 and 85, and used to go to West Ham college. Errol Christie was silky smooth. The only difference was that Mark had a better chin. Good luck to 'em both. Great fight.
I wasn't very old when this fight took place and I remember listening to it on the radio and then seeing it later on TV. I can't argue who was the best fighter or about the technical aspects but for me this was the best all british fight I ever saw including Eubank v Benn and all the combinations with Watson. Not pretty but brilliant.
Emmanual Steward the great Detroit trainer had Errol over to train with some of his big name fighters for a short while. He stated that Errol could have been a very good welterweight and fair to good light-middleweight, but that Errol was allowing and being allowed to put on weight and move up to middleweight. Something which in Steward's view would be a weight too far and Errol would fail at the heavier weight.
I saw him on ITV on a saturday afternoon fighting some welsh geezer late 70`s or very early 80`s..Back then he looked like sugar Ray Leonard X 2.. Never really understood how he lost that style..Almost as if it was trained out of him?? Perhaps it was too early for me to judge such illusions of grandeur for him?? Anyway..RIP Errol.
very funny, sibson was a bull, hagler said in the book 4 kings, talking about the mugabi fight, he"d been hurt by john and once before, not by hearns or duran but a left hook from sibbo! he would of walked through christie.

"a firework explodes in the arena" the commentary is what stuck with me,sir harry was the greatest that ever did it
He was the best
No he wasn't. Reg Gutteridge was the best, you put a poll out and I bet you 80% would come back preferring reg, no problem.

Yes , you can see here , Kaylor is a weight division stronger, its visible.
@SuperMephistopheles -Yes I was reading up about his book in the Waterstones magazine this morning. Definetly should be a good read!
