- Since I had to put a new motor together for the '51, I figured I'd go through how I build a Magnum for boost. This one is going to see 20psi of boost in the '51.
Truck specs:
1951 Dodge One Ton Flatbed (70 year old original wood flatbed!)
1995 5.9L Magnum V8 (cam only, stock bottom end)
GT45 Turbo (Making all the boost!)
Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 20-746-9
Cometic MLS Headgaskets and ARP studs
Holley Terminator X EFI
Fully Custom Turbo Headers
NV4500 5 Speed Manual (diesel mainshaft upgrade)
Spec Stage 3+ Clutch (Rated for 750 ftlbs)
Water/Meth Injection
Dana 60s Front and Rear
4.10 Gears and a Welded Rear Axle
3 Link Long Travel Suspension Front and Rear
Bilstein 8125 14" Travel Coilovers
33" Falken Mud Tires - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Dang magnums have huge journals
Well...looks like Ill turbo my 5.9 Jeep thanks to you 😅
If I had a nickel for every time I told myself "I'm not gonna make any dumb errors" and proved myself wrong within 10 minutes, I'd be filthy rich.
Yeah, "this time" will be different. Hahahaha
When I built my magnum 360 for the Dart I went though 2 junkyard 5.9s and they both had chunks out of the cam bearings and bad rod bearings. I can only imagine there are tons of these things on the road running like that. I love a magnum!
You bought some lemons or had bad luck. I love an old dart.
Not saying it wouldn't run like that, but I just don't want to trash my cam! I mean the blown up 5.9 that was in the truck had some nasty cam bearings. And the cam came out ok. But I'm really trying to keep this motor together for more than one season! Haha
I'm about to refresh mine..5.2..was going to skip cam bearings until I saw another video of a 5.2 tear down with the same mileage as mine..😳...ordered cam bearings.
Love it
👍
So now that you've done Hemies and Magnums which do you prefer?
The Magnum is way more durable. But the Hemi does make power easier. I'm gonna keep beating them until I decide. Lol
Hopefully when you come to the ruckus this year it leaves running the way it came
Haha that would be nice!
Milodon makes a 4 bolt main set, or did. Curious myself how those are, im running .050 head gasket and didn't clean my block up that much or deck it. Kb pistons and one was about .010 out of the hole
👍💪
😎😎
I can’t wait to do all this to my Dakota one day, do you remember what thickness cometic gasket you used?
It's an 0.040" gasket
You do know there's a difference in camshafts between a naturally aspirated engine and a turbo engine, right? You are putting a NA cam in a Turbo-ed engine. Git'er tuned and swap cams to a turbo cam and see what the performance difference it. The 5.9L has a smog cam because the bore is over 4.000". Want some more fun? Swap out a 5.9L cam for a 5.2L cam and feel the difference! My Desktop Dyno shows me very nice numbers in the difference!
What injectors do you run? I’ve been toying with building a turbo setup for my shop truck
They are Deka 60 pph injectors.
How did you bypass the security disabler from the PCM? my 01 won't start because the alarm is going off. Changed PCM with no luck. I can NOT find anyone who knows how to fix it here in Georgia.
I'm running a Holley ECU and not the stock one.
Looking for a 78 D 100 grille, is your's for sale
That's just some nice decoration for the garage. Wasn't really planning on selling it.
Have you got any ideas on how I should build a 5.2 magnum
@Fedupfab
I'm no expert on 5.2s, but I'd do the exact same thing. It's just a smaller displacement 5.9
nice ...I've looked and looked for head studs for magnum the number u gave comes back for the w7 ...will they work for magnum heads or am I missing something..thanks
They work for the factory Magnum heads. Not sure why ARP doesn't list that usage for them, but Hughes does show them as the right ones for stock heads.
@FedUpFab awesome appreciate the response..expensive but worth it i guess.cost 2x wat the main
windage studs
