I love this guard. She is all about doing the right thing and doesn't allow anyone to break the rules. She is formidable and that is what we want our soldiers to be.
She is very good. All these young Guards are very good at their jobs. They are very patient with the thousands of visitors who pass by every day. I would not have their patience for some of these people who are constantly touching the horses. Many times it is possible to see that the horse does not want to be bothered because it will throw its head up and down as people try to stroke its face. Why are people so stupid? Those horses are AT WORK. Would those people appreciate strangers coming into their office or place of business and stroking their hair or taking photos standing beside them? The bollards should be where visitors have to stay behind and not allowed to wander freely right up to the horses and Guards. How can they do their job when they have to spend their entire shift watching to see what people are doing to their horses?
People who walk through there need to be arrested and fined which has to be paid before they leave the country or, if they live there, will go to warrant and jail time if not paid. This is ridiculously
It's stupidity yes but stupidity isn't against the law ! So they can't be arrested or fined as no Law has been broken .
Is there something very wrong with the way this "attraction" in London is handled? There's a sign about the potential for biting, and finally , long overdue, a sign telling people not to touch the reins. But there is no sign or ticket booth you have to enter through, where there can be an entire list of do's and don't around the Horse Guards. People meander all over the place by the thousands and have to be rounded up and controlled every single time there is a changing of the Guard. Then there's the super-idiots like this man. Who, in their right mind, walks up BEHIND a horse who is confined in a fairly small space? That man's lucky he didn't get his face smashed in with a hoof! Imagine if 15,000 tourists a day started using the horse boxes as their own personal passageways. There are going to be injuries, and there are going to be very unhappy young soldiers who trained for the House Cavalry, thinking it would be the finest way to serve their country, but now being constantly harassed and hampered in their duties by idiot guests who have no clue how to behave in public.

To all the people complaining about the 'distressed' horse: There is no cruelty, no pain, no anxiety, just a horse that plays with the bits because he can. I had a horse that chewed on a rubber bit - pain? No of course not. There are many and varied reasons why horses do what they do. We who own them try to learn their language and communicate in ways they understand. Rarely do our horses become 'distressed'. This post could turn into a novel because there is so much that could be written on this subject However, scroll down where I have replied to jrobertsnz, I have explained a little more there.

Spot on. There are three sets of salivary glands in a horses mouth, and a lot of them use the bit for stimulation. Sort of like why people chew gum, they find it soothing.
Doesn’t matter what signs are posted or yells from the guards, people gonna do what they wanna do. But I bet a few kicks/bites from the horse may slow it down a bit.

@@gerardpowney8318 Why not? I'm not too sure if they have a frontline combat role during deployment but there's plenty of other roles in any regiment. So far they're doing an excellent job of the ceremonial and equestrian aspects and appear to be a credit to the Household Cavalry.

When that numpty walks through the box, one of the soldiers comes out of the gate. He looks as though he's searching for someone. Perhaps he spotted what the old man did and was trying to find him. By trying to go back through the box the man was attempting to avoid the soldier. Or it could be that my imagination is working overtime 😂
I dont think any tourists should be anywhere near the box. They can get a good picture stand at the edge of that box.

Absolutely not cruelty. Also, no distress or suffering. Horses learn to play with their bit/bits, it is a habit and often they like to hear the jingling. Ride a horse along a grassy verge and before long it will creep onto the tar seal because it likes the sound of the hoofbeats. A truly distressed horse will be very obvious and show many symptoms such as sweating, not standing still, rolling its eyes, lungeing back and forth and getting out of control. Sometimes though, those manifestations are not even caused by distress. After years and years of horse ownership, you learn to read the horse's signals and react accordingly.
And if you had been observant you would have noticed that the guard is a femaile.
