Mercedes-Benz Sprinter - production at the Düsseldorf factory.
With a workforce of some 6600 and an annual output of around 150,000 vans, Düsseldorf is Daimler AG's main factory for vans. All the closed variants of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter - i.e. panel vans and crewbuses - roll off the production line here. The factory has a shop floor covering almost 700,000 square metres and produces almost 700 vans per working day by way of a three-shift system. Daimler invested almost 36 million euros in the factory in 2012.
A new combined heat and power station which cuts primary energy consumption at the factory by around 20 percent accounted for over a third of this investment volume. A particularly notable asset from the employees' point of view is the new factory restaurant which sets a benchmark throughout the group. The Sprinter is also produced in Ludwigsfelde (Germany), Argentina, the USA, China and Russia.

I have bought my last mercedes van in 1986, long before the sprinter saw dayight. 2 years later I had to have it painted over because offrust . Mercedes people told me their superb quality and warranty covered the rust from inside out and not when the rust was coming from outside .
They were done talking when also the steel plate between motor and driver was rusted . never bought a mercedes anymore and never had rusty vans no more . German quality my bottom .
Special , so the people may buy new every 5-10 years because it became ugly and rustt

Thay rust so fast because Merc put the paint on so thin I have a 2012 sprinter that's I had to have 're sprayed with 4 coats of paint just to stop it rusting it was 2 years old when I 're painted it

in north america they are known for their 'leopard' spots. i own an 04 t1n. color choice made a difference where i come from the custom color variations develop their spots less than the white.

8) incluir sistema de air bóias para flutuar em caso de inundação ou enchente repentina ,
9) incluir porta deslizante com fechamento magnético substituindo o fecho mecânico na ação abre fecha dos passageiros, o fecho mecânico fica apenas para chavear e trancar a porta ,
10) incluir isolamento acústico melhor na carcaça para diminuir interferências sonoras externas no transito

Don't drive your Sprinter Van in the middle of Michigan winter storms. Save it for dry summer days and it will last forever.
If you buy yellow car it last longer, because the yellow paint cover the less. Thatswhy must paint thicker layer of paint. White is the thinnest.

Its the VW-Van, also made in Duesseldorf. The new one is made in Poland, by VW themself.
Very impressive, but rust buckets after 5/6years, its amazing for VW and Merc top names yet let their product down by rust, the other vans out there don't seem to rust, i have the VW and it will be my last they are not worth the money to watch every day a bit of rust cancer creeping in.

Poor anti-corrosion protection, although Vito was even worse. I liked driving the 3.0L turbo diesel version.
Really if they do Galvanized it solve all the priblem and it cost really not many for the plant, but who will buy new models every 7-10 years if cars would be in good shape along 20 years whithout corrosion...
They do it special...
Car has good Anti Corrosion Protection, they dip it chassis into a Galvanized bath about 4 times. Also most of the different Paints get 2-4 different coats of paint. When customers have complaints about corrosion/ rust its mostly their own/ their employees fault. Most of the cars produced there go to big Companies i.e DHL, UPS, Fed Ex ect ect. Most of the delivery guys / employees just dont take care of the cars. Source: I took a Plant Viewing at the Factory and saw EVERY step of building a Sprinter.

I'm with Tahir. Sprinters are terrible for rust. Right in the middle of panels too. I have heard rumours the home market Mercedes have more paint on them than export vehicles. If someone cares to enlighten me on this one. Either way they still have very poor paintwork. Anyone remember E class in the mid 90's they were like 1960's Vauxhalls. The inner wings just disintegrated. Early W203 C class were poor too, especially silver ones. Very bad for a supposedly 'prestige' marque. My old Peugeot 406 had better bodywork despite being 12yr old when I sold it and over 230k miles. Loved that old bus. Bombproof and comfortable.

Whats the part number for the RUST. Worst van in the WORLD as Clarkson would say. They Fuckin Rust. The train has less RUST.
Mercedes Sprinter have many plusses, but two big minuses eliminate good things: corrosion & fucked up electronics(traction control and so on) which are so annoying and disturb driving, especially winter time so it makes me just mad. As example, I have even been stuck at summer on wet grass with this Sprinter and not a worth to mention snow, it gets only worse.

Tengo una Sprinter. La pintura malisima, cuando la lavo, con poco jabon y neutro, el agua cae blanca, los cristales de los retrovisores exteriores de pronto se caen en la carretera y no da opcion a pegarlos, le salen puntos de óxido en la pintura por cualquier lado, cuando la compre la lleve 3 veces en garantia porque si abria las ventanillas en marcha se metian los gases de escape, todavia sigo asi. Ahora la hacen con traccion delantera pero siguen manteniendo la misma altura de suelo y por consiguiente la altura total y por consiguiente se sigue tambaleando mucho y sigue siendo mas estrecha que Renault, Peugeot, Nissan, Opel. La cabina podria estar mas insonorizada, lo saben muy bien con sus clase E y S. No repetiria la compra. El asiento doble delantero de acompañantes, tanto cuesta que sea abatible la espalda 10 ó 15 cms en la version Combi y Minibus?....es terrible los viajes que hace mi Mujer derecha como una tablaaaaaaa. El motor de 129 cv...me adelantan los camiones en cuesta arriba con carga de 2900 kgs, por lo demás, bien

Most of the rust on sprinters is caused by scratched or dented surfaces due to bad treatment during general usage and loading.

I now know why these junk heaps fail to hold up in the States.. these stunters were never designed correctly to begin with. you can't expect a uni body chassis to do the job of a work frame chassis.

strewth, there was so much lacking in this building of the Sprinter, too much time wasted on the painting, fitting the windscreen, could have been better off using this for other things, you didn't show fitting the seats, doors, connecting up the wire harnesses, fitting bonnet hinges, bumper bar etc etc>>
I have a 2007 Model, Ambulance, with only 170,000kms and the amount of expensive problems I am finding now.
I am extremely disappointed as I presumed the Mercedes Benz was the best in their field.

Sad and pathetic to badge a vehicle Mercedes-Benz and only use a single stage paint system over a thin coat of primer on top of non galvanized metalwork, especially when they know the vehicle be driven in harsh winter environment's...smh. Just watching this video I'd say the paint application is amongst the worst, considering I can see that nasty orange peel paint finish on my cheap TV. Lol.. Mercedes needs to take notes from the Japanese manufacturers like Nissan and Honda, because they know how to paint a vehicle so it looks good and doesn't rust! I ended up having to have mine repainted for over $10,000 to stave off rust, paint chips and rub through.
