I've got 4 daughters under the age of 7, so I have zero time to really dedicate to a project, so these quick carves mean so much to me.

Wow! As a proud father of 4 daughters, you need to relax sometimes and woodcarving is a good idea to spend your time. We have many videos on carving small projects that don't require much time. Wish you enjoyable woodcarving, Jonathan!

I found this demo to be too fast and though could slow his hands frequently in the way and he should stop after a major feature and show

May I ask what type of wood you are using in this video? I started only a few months ago with pine.. but this one seems easier to carve.

He used bass wood. You can get a package of different size blocks at Walmart in the craft Department or at pretty much any craft store.

yes, it's basswood and you can find the basswood blocks here: bit.ly/34uBgGg

By the way, I started with doing the same thing with pine thinking that it would all be the same, and found out that pine is nutritiously hard to carve, especially for beginners, because of how easy it is to splinter and how hard it is to smooth out at the edges. Basswood is great not only for how much easier it is, but also because it's quite cheep to buy. Best if luck.

You need a table saw to cut into triangles. I just buy it already cut.
