Stumbled upon a video of yours around 3AM this morning while looking for exterior door casing ideas. I have NO idea how to do any of this mess, but trying to save money by doing things myself on a new house. It’s 11AM.... I’m STILL watching your videos. Haha. You. Are. AMAZINGGGGG! I’m literally in shock. Your work ethic is unbelievable. I’m just... i cant explain how impressed i am with your attention to detail and your desire for perfection. It’s almost unheard of these days. And indirect lighting with 3 piece cove in our living room. Showed the wife your video on wainscot and picture frame molding. She liked it so much, she is helping me do it in our dining room, and up the stairs! Is our first project together! Thanks so much for the videos, tool suggestions, planning, measuring, and angles! Her math skills are better than mine, so when we started up the steps, within a few minutes she had all the miter angles and lengths figured, and she is no longer scared of the miter saw, and cuts her own pieces! I have been following you for about 3 months now, and just love your tutorials. I am English, born and raised in London. For my 6th birthday my father bought me a bag of nails and a hammer. I was hooked! I was the first year of students where girls had to be offered in English schools the same opportunities as boys and visa versa. ie; Home economics/cookery to woodwork/metalwork/TD etc. I was the only conscript in my school , being female, to take up woodwork and metalwork. The lads in my class were a nightmare, but that’s another issue, I always got the best cuts of wood! Cutting to the chase, I have watched other tutorials, and you are by far the most thorough and attention to detail. I like your laid back attitude and style. Please don’t ever get ‘too big for your boots’ as we say over here. I lived in Houston for 4 years, and was always amazed at the rapid rate of construction! I remodelled our bathrooms etc, but nothing of any finesse We build with brick here in England, not timber, so always interesting to see different ways. I have now bought a Victorian house here in England and want to wainscot, or as we call here in England, panel, my stairs and drawing room. I don’t expect for one minute I’ll do it to your standard, but I’ll try and post you pictures of my efforts! My kids are 24 and 22 now, but love that you include your kids in the video, (whether you want to or not!), that’s how I got engaged. Hats off to you, you are a top class guy.. my husband thinks I’m nuts watching all these videos when he’s watching rugby on tv. I love it! Nice watch too!

Greetings from Brooklyn, NY. I'm not a homeowner but I appreciate your trade and craftsmanship. I was an architecture student many moons ago but didn't finish college due to being young and undecided. I have never lost the passion for the art. The skills you possess are an art form in itself. Me and my family rent an apartment in a Pre-War (1935) building that has similar millwork. It's original to the building. I'm a bit of a DIYer, I definitely like to paint. I was fortunate enough to work in the residential building services industry for 10 years where I saw apartments gutted and built back up according to owner specs. From blueprints to the final brushstroke. Just wanted to send you good vibes from NYC. Thanks again, much success to you and your business.

You may want to consider doing this to a blade that doesn't cut as good as when it was new. First let's understand carbide better. Carbide came into woodworking from the metalworking industry. While carbide will never get as sharp a edge as high speed steel will, high speed steel will never hold a edge as long as carbide. That is what makes carbide the logical choice for woodworking. Carbide will cut when it is red hot however carbide is brittle and will chip when it cuts stone or hardened metal. What many craftsmen encounter is carbide blades and bits that are gummed up with pitch and resin or other material residue that will make the blade act like it is dull. The good news is you can very cheaply renew these blades back to a like new condition without grinding carbid away from the blade from sharpening. I learned this many yaes ago from a retired cutter grinder who operated a sharpening business after retirement from the auto industry. He very generously explained to me that all I needed was to clean the pitch and gummed up materials from the blade with over cleaner; so I went and bought a cheap 14" pizza pan and a long handled vegetable kitchen brush and a can of Easy Off oven cleaner and cut sharpening costs by over 75%. The man explained and showed me that if the blade tooth is sharp enough to scratch your fingernail when dragged across it while holding the blade in your hand is is sharp and sharpening just shortens the life of the blade.
If you do not know of doing this with your carbide blades and router bits, try it and I assure you suprising results. Stop throwing your money away. Tool costs are high enough as it is.

When I found out you don't sharpen blades that was an WHAT reaction. I'm a finisher as well and I buy expensive blades (Freud Industrial, CMT Industrial ect) also have a few custom grinds and some Diablo blades as well. Up here in Canada blades are expensive. So not sharpening 8¼-12 inch blades sounds crazy to me considering how much it actually costs to do and given the quality of carbide in some blades. My blades from the sharpener are better than when brand new. They also weld on new teeth if needed and wrap in silicon to protect the teeth. MDF will gum up teeth on blades which leads to dulling them thru added heat. Consider cleaning/soaking your blades in cleaner (I just used the kitchen sink in multi-purpose cleaner). The pitch comes right off and the blades cut good after. I do wipe the blades clean and dry them completely before storing them in my home made blade holder.
While I won't necessarily sharpened 7¼ blades (I have 1freud industrial blade that will always get sharpened), I typically throw those away but when Freud lists 6x sharpening on the packaging they aren't lying. I have blades that are 8 years old and have been sharpened lots. It's cheaper for me to sharpen than buy a new 90-100 tooth blade. (In Canada at least - Diablo blades at HD are $75-110... I don't buy them there!) But I also use different blades for different jobs (lower tooth count for rougher work or MDF work where I know it's getting sanded. My 100 tooth for kitchens and hardwood mouldings. Keep your blades clean and find a shop that can sharpen your blades well, it will save you money in the end!

Awesome channel. You deserve it all and more I’m sure. I think we give celebrity to the wrong people for the wrong reasons. Especially the younger reality tv generation.

I usually look at the carbide on the teeth to see if I wantto replace. I have blades I sharpened multiple times with a Trend Routing 1000 grit diamond credit card. Works great on saw blades and router bits. Chisels and planes too.

Found your videos on TH-cam, so much useful information. Recently I decided to install crown moulding, however, in my condo I have a concrete ceiling. So not sure if you made a video on this, just want to know what you do when you install moulding on a concrete ceiling.

Thanks for another excellent video! Sharpened blades are not the same as a new blade at least for me and I tried different shops, the only ones I get sharpened and only one time are my Forrest for my table saw, would like to know how you like the Dewalt precision trim blade..

Try the oven cleaner trick! I learned it years ago from the old man who sharpened scissors, drill bits and saw blades. It really works on blades used to cut MDF a lot

I often get my Freud blades sharpened, they’re excellent for that, most resharpening places around here won’t sharpen dewalt blades b/c the carbide is junk.
Freud makes several blades for cutting laminate, I’d never waste a nice trim blade on laminate.

At first I was mostly buying Diablo blades to then I needed a new finish blade for my 10” Dewalt miter Saw and I remembered that Vince from VCG said that he liked them better. So I bought one and he was right they definitely cut real nice and they last longer to. If you do go with a Diablo blade buy the new improved ones. I bought the Demo Demon for my Circular saw and I will say they are much better than the standard ones and they have a whole line of new blades for specific materials.

Have u tried cleaning the wood resin from the saw blade teeth? Cleaning hem regularly extends the life big time and its pretty fast. You could buy special liquid to clean them or simply as i do boild some water with dish soap let it soak and soften for like 10 min or so then use a tooth brush to clean the teeth from both sides and the pit.

That's great! Love both you and Essential Craftsman. Pretty much watch every video from both of you. Also, funny Nate would mention Tips from a Shipwright - there might be no better series than his last two, the Skiff and Dory builds. Just pure entertainment and unbelievably informative as well.

My favorite video was comparing the dewalt to the Kapex Festool. You were the only one I heard something negative about. 1) the wrist angle of the grip is 90 degrees off and 2) it’s over safety mechanizims make it difficult to get the blade down to the wood. I plan on investing in a Dewalt. You saved me $1,000. WoodRicks
